You people are truly hypocrites. Don't you realize when you 'de-humanize' another human being, regardless of the crimes for which they are 'suspected' (since they never got a trial or representation, you can only presume guilt, not prove it), you de-humanize yourselves. In other words, you BECOME that which you ABHOR. What part of the Bible are you so-called devout Christians reading? It certainly isn't the parts of "Judge not lest ye be judged", "Let he who is without sin - let him cast the first stone", "When one strikes your cheek, offer the other", or "Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord". I guess you pick and choose as you see fit, the same way you call Barack Obama a 'Fascist' when most of you have no concept of its true definition. But no matter -- you would 'judge' him regardless of your vocabulary skills. You all leap to judgement, consequences be damned, and with no concern for anyone but your deluded and twisted concepts of 'democracy'. You all make me ashamed to be an American and proud that I am not a Pseudo-Christian like yourselves.

Newsweek and their liberal bias is clearly demonstrated in this article. Liberals want to interogate these barbarian terrorists by placing them in encounter groups and have them discuss their feelings. Most people with commmon sense will understand this is waste of time. Liberals will take heart in the fact this humane treatment will make them feel good. Liberalism is all about feeling good reguardless of results or consequences. These barbarian terrorists are NOT CRIMINALS, they are worse than criminlas. That said as a just nation of free people we cannot treat them, once caught as prisioners as they would treat us. We should not use physical torture that results in scars or physical injuries. As prisioners we should treat them humanely. However for the purpose of interogation to prevent future loss of life to any innocent people, here in the US or elsewhere, these torrorists should be subjected to unpleasant interogation techniques. Waterboarding sounds like a great tool for this purpose. It certainly did the job and provided excellent results and the subjects were never harmed. None of the so called "torture" by the meida and other fools,is really torture. Yes, it is unpleasant and "mean" but it is necessary.

None of you right wingers would make good intelligence officers. Of course, you need some intelligence to work in that field, but you'd also be horrible because you don't know how to deal with opponents. These radicals are our enemy. They are not our first enemies and they won't be the last. Sometimes our enemies become our friends (Germany and Japan), and sometimes our friends become our enemies (Osama Bin Laden). So it is not a bad idea to recognize that we might regret mistreating prisoners in the future.

Once you start treating everyone like animals, you generally lose the ability to obtain intelligence from cooperative interrogation, which any intelligence expert will tell you is the prime objective of questioning. Additionally, if you act like barbarians, you lose the sympathy of the rest of the world and provide your enemy with fresh recruits.

I don't feel for the enemy, but onlly an idiot allows his emotions to drive his reasoning.

Unless they were beaten, their nails pulled, subjected to electric shock, poured hot wax in their ears, or any other such method which inflicted unbearable physical pain on them - PLEASE DO NOT BOTHER US WITH THE STORIES OF THEIR SO CALLED TORTURE - because it was not torture.

Not one of these "tactics" upsets me in the least. Where's the concern for U.S. citizens killed. I worked for almost ten years in Saudi, Jordan, Egypt, and Syria. Most of the people like everywhere are okay but even they only loved my money that I spent. The religious conservatives, not even radicals, hate us because we are heathens or athiest or worse. Treating them nice is only appropriate when they leave us alone and live quietly in their 16th Century world.

It's very clear cut to me. We convicted and imprisoned officials of other nations for war crimes because they employed these same tactics against Americans. We signed onto the Geneva Convention that forbids these interrogation techniques. We nave lost the moral high ground we once claimed seperated us from our less civilized and more brutal enemies. Our hypocrisy exposed!

oh and by the way...the officials we imprisoned were guilty of gassing and otherwise murdering millions of men, women and children. A far cry from making someone bark like a dog or even waterboarding

    • Posted By: Not duped by Dems @ 11/16/2009 8:59:10 PM

the Geneva Cconvention prohibits "degradation", insects in cells, close quarters by a female....get a life and get your head out the sand. Like a previous poster said, folks of your ilk really believe that if we make nice we can all play in the sandbox

When a nation does not have the resolve to do whatever is necessary to protect its people and soveriegnity, does not export unconditional violence and aggression towards ANY person and ANY nation that does us harm, and employs tactics and strategy that is weaker than its enemies and emboldens rather than destroys the enemy will to win - it has already lost. This country ceased fighting wars in a manner that would ensure vcictory about 1945, and now the same mentality that ushered in the loss of Vietnam, the growth of Islamic fundamentalism, and the utter disregard of American military and political power by third world despots, butchers and madmen permeates the halls of Washington and blogs. Torture is pulling off fingernails, electro-shocking genitals, cutting off fingers, breaking bones, and beheading and dismemberment, and anyone who grew up in the 1950's and prior knows the difference. Those who continue to hammer the very methods that we employ, and employed to obtain intelligenve that has saved lives of our citizens are worse than our enemies, for they undercut one of the most effectice methods to get information quickly from those that might someday blow a weapon of mass destruction on our children. If you don't get the drift of what I'm saying, talk to your great-grandparents about what THEIR generation did to win WW2; talk to a Vietnam combat vet who, if they are honest, will tell you what THEY and their enemies did to try and win - and THEY (our enemies) did it better than us because a previous generation or pacifists, peace-niks, and yellow belly cowards who let others fo to war ijn their place instead of serving their country. Weakness and FDR style isolationism and appeasement has cost the world over 5 million dead since 1975,, and only during periods of demonstrable strength, resolve to do whatevver was necessary to get the point across the we will NOT go quitely into the closet while our enemies flourish has the US remained safe. Once again we have a political structure where, like FDR and LBJ, ignorance and appeasement is in vogue, and spending vast amounts of money on political agendas in lieu of winning a war is generating an exit out strategy and destroying American trust and reliance in out allies, and once AGAIN, we will surely pay as a nation in the future for out stupidity.

      extremely well said

    • Posted By: farneyblakeley @ 11/15/2009 2:26:14 PM

where does this FDR isolationism idea come from. no one wanted america in the war against nazis more than he. congress wouldn't allow it until pearl harbor. have you read best and the brightest? I think you should. And if you have, read it again. what people like you never seem to understand is that going to war is a last resort to defend yourself, not a geopolitical game

  • Posted By: Not duped by Dems @ 11/16/2009 8:44:24 PM

You've got to be kidding ...sleep depravation, pouring water on one's head, close quarters by women, insects, etc are equated with TORTURE......get a life panty waists

The Abu Gharib soldiers who were just following orders got used like a bunch of sorry suckers by the military by pleading guilty and spending time in jail. Only a fool would join the US militart,

No suspected terrorist deserves to be treated as well as my dog!

  • Posted By: randerson1228 @ 09/25/2009 10:42:01 PM

i am far from a left wing liberal, but I cannot imagine how treating people like animals helps in any fashion whatsoever. The fact is, there are many far more useful techniquest to get real intelligence from captives and they do not result in the fallout of having those who would harm us having tons of recruitment propaganda to gain even more radical followers to continue this useless cycle of revenge by one side justifying revenge by the other! This whole thing reminds me of the old family feuds that were prevalent in the early years of America! Revenge begets revenge. There is no solution there. I want a country that is safe from terrorism so my kids can grow up without fear or reprisal from foreign terrorists who justify their actions by pointing out ours! Look at the comments from the idiots on here that talk about murdering innocent islamic children in retaliation for the 9/11 bombings and then tell me that similar idiots on the islamic side will not use these treatments to justify killing our children! All we are doing is perpetuating a cycle of violence that does nothing for us!

If it's good enough (or maybe bad enough) for our US Military, why is it "torture" for our enemies??? I recently returned from Kuwait on an assignment. I was sitting next to a 19yo female in the dining hall. The whole table was talking about the potential terrorist threat that was discovered in Kuwait. We got to speaking about what should be done about terrorists. And of course, the subject of detention and interrogation came up. Most of those at the table had been through SERE training. Yes, they are waterboarded. Yes, they are harshly treated. Yes, they are kept up for days on end. But as the 19 said to me, I sure would rather have a US Army Sargeant prepare me for what MAY be coming rather than experience it first hand at the hands of someone who hates me. If it is good enough for the US Military, why is it NOT acceptable for terrorists???

BLEEDING HEART LIBS !!!!!! isay do WHATEVER it takes. these people hate us . they would kill you and your loved ones without any sign of remorse. and as far as what the rest of the world thinks , after you have extracted all usefull information, line them all up for exacution or lobotomy. remember two can keep a secret when one is dead.

Typical newsweek, blame America, do you people throw down a prayer rug five times a day and bow to mecca? These people aren't boy scouts. I read an article where a group of these animals buried a 13 year girl up to her neck and stoned her to death for BEING RAPED!!. Yea, the religion of peace.

These pigs can't be exterminated fast enough as far as I'm concerned.

    GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Those prisoners are being treated better than convicts in the U.S. a P.O.W. is just that. They would not take you prisoner, they would put you on T.V. and cut your head off, PERIOD. I say feed them to the sharks!

  • Posted By: dkbrown13 @ 09/23/2009 9:36:28 AM

It's realy too bad that we are treating animals like animals to save some of our own people and it doesn't bother me at all but I am not a bleeding heart liberal either.

Wow lets keep talking about Guantanamo and the prisoner abuse. Its already been reported 500,000 times. Don't you have anything better to write about? How about the Iranian young boys who were raped in prison repeatedly? How about anything that is actually "news".

You liberal bastards need to stop this *** now. We are talking prisoners of war. Islamic Muslim terrorists who would murder you and your children in a flash. Terrorists who do think twice about killing as many Americans as they can. You damn liberal bastards want to let them go free in the United States. Sick bastards all of you! First you elect a Islamic Muslim Sleeper as your president because he is half black and then you sit back and let him become the dictator he planned to become. He is a Neo Marxist dictator who will soon show you all his true colors. I already see them, but the rest of you idiots will have to be hurt bad before you see what is going on. The man is brainless. The liberal *** heads that work around him are retarded idiots. We are in grave danger in this country. Beware stupid people, beware. If you are not a liberal swine, then you are doing one thing right.

They aren't POW's. War was never declared by Congress. Bush had a hard on for Saddam and went in. No real evidence, just revenge.
No one has been charged with a crime, and most of the "confessions" were coerced. Most of the prisoners were turned in by rival factions that wanted the reward money, not because of a real guilt.
America became Cuba/Russia/Congo/etc. under Bush. We became what we claimed we despised. So Sieg Hiel your opinions, cuz that's what you are.

Get your facts straight. A simple google search is all you needed to do. This is what is wrong with people today, they don't research things. The Iraq Resolution or the Iraq War Resolution (formally the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 [1], Pub.L. 107-243, 116 Stat. 1498, enacted October 16, 2002, H.J.Res. 114) is a joint resolution (i.e., a law) passed by the United States Congress in October 2002 as Public Law No: 107-243, authorizing the Iraq War.

First off when you say "Islamic Muslim" you already label yourself as being uneducated or ill-informed with regard to the enemy. A person who is a Muslim is also Islamic - Islam is the name of the religion and Muslim is the name of an individual who practices the religion, kind of like Christians and Christianity - you would probably never say those "Christian Christianity" would you now? There are also Muslim extremists and Muslim fundamentalist - both very different. Then there is Islamic extremist and Islamic fundalmentalists. Point being know who you are talking about in your very first sentence for that will help to give creedence to any other sentences you write. As for me I could not get past your first statement so everything else you wrote is taken with a huge grain of salt. I do agree that we have some very liberal folks in the White House now and some are a bit naive and do not know how to run a war - especially a war of this nature with global reach and reprecussions. But I would venture to say that you must give the new President a chance - he is only human and was left with a very large mess that needs cleaning up. I would say that if you think you could do a better job then perhaps you can start campaigning now so you can get your name on the 2012 ballot - if you've got a better plan than the incumbant next time around I'd vote for you. But for now I think you should chill out a bit, stop with the hate speech and read up on your/our enemy. If you're interested in getting into the fight that's coming, i.e. in Afghanistan, there are plenty of opportunities waiting for you - but just don't sit there and attack everyone within the administration with your pen and bad manners, put your money where your mouth is!!! Basically put up or shut up!

Why not wrap them in wet pigskin; place them in the sun and tell them if they talk it will be taken off;? If not, it will squeeze them to death - and they can forget thier umpteen viergins, etc.

completely agree with the few posts ahead of me. SO WHAT if these terrorists were submitted to some embarrassment??? WHO CARES if they spoken to like an animal and were forced to bark (or strip...or pray to something other than their "god" - a "god" which apparently condones REAL torture - like killing innocent men, women, and children)??

The people who whine and complain about U.S. treatment of terrorist detainees make me sick. If you had lost a loved one in the 9/11 attack, I doubt that you would be so sympathetic. These terrorists ARE animals and deserve to be treated much worse than they are. Every single one of them should be submitted to the methods of torture and death that they have inflicted (or wish to inflict) upon U.S. citizens. Every single U.S. citizen should thank God and the U.S. military for the relative safety that we enjoy.

WAKE UP! The only way to defeat terrorism is to cut it off at the root. And if detainees are forced to have a female interrogator invade their "personal space" or are forced to strip in order to obtain information that can potentially prevent future terrorist attacks, who the $@&! cares?? The men, women and children should all be eliminated.
