    I am so very tired of the attempt of media to downplay all the accomplishments of President Obama thus far and to bring in all the Republican nonsense out there, over and over, until it seems no one is noticiing that we now have a President to be proud of and that we can once again hold our heads up and be proud to be Americans. We have this very brilliant, brave man who has been elected to the Presidency, by the grace of God, and we should appreciate and support all he is trying to do to save our country and possibly even the world.

          DId you read that in the NY Times? I'm sorry, you didn't deserve that. We have killed prisoners in every war. Shock, right? Every war a few prisoners are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Shock right? A lot of documents declassified over the years prove it. It happened in WWI, WW II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan. I just like the experts saying that this guy has accomplished something when his #1 job is Commander-in-Chief, not GM CEO. $)YearR: The pproblem is while you are at the Mall, Soldiers are watching their buddies die, and if they catch you soon after, you might not make out so well. Shocking right?

            Let's see.... We prosecuted Japanese for war crimes after waterboarding Americans. We were the primary movers in getting the Geneva Conventions adopted after WWII. We were outraged over torture of Ameiricans in Korea. We court martialed Americans for waterboarding in Vietnam, and we were outraged by torture of Americans Vietnam including John McCain. Guards were improsoned for abuses at Abu Ghraib.

            The Senate committee report for which the link has been posted unanimously denounced the torture we have been engaging in these two wars, and said it impaired our capacity to get reliable interrogation intelligence...

            But I'm the one who is uninformed and out of step, gregcovert?

                  This site obviously is run by Newsweek! This is way out of place. It rebutted some historian that said that Japanese big-shots were executed for water-boarding. Why dozens more didn't get hanged is because we needed a friendly or at least docile Japan as a check against the Commies. I only typed this once so if it appears more than once, who knows?

              Special forces in my family. Viet nam era. They placed bombs on their children and told them to cozy up to soldiers. The women went for the men with razors hidden in body areas. To win, nothing was beyond what they would do. pull out fingernails. poke the eyes out. break limbs and never set them. You worry about a caterpillar placed in a room with a terorist and some water poured on his head? Then go out and stop it from happening to special forces as part of their training. stand up for what you beleive. Or is anti America you believe? For your liberal bleeding heart, you will kill us all.

                I've had 9 knee surgeries, so no 'Nam for me. But I lost several friends, several who's bodies were ruined, and I've got several friends who have never gotten over the shame of what they did there in the name of 'patriotism'. Remember, our cause was sooo just, we finally just ran out of there. And... son of a gun... the world didn't go to Hell, did it? But, there were soldiers who were court martialed for waterboarding. Must have been some ignorant don't-know-as-much-as-owendbanks lefty military judges, huh?

      Presidents are not elected "by the grace of God." Presidents are elected by votes, in this case those of simple-minded citizens who were too enamoured by the smoke and mirrors a brialliant speechwriter to realize that nothing was being said during those speeches. So we now have a popularity contest winner/leader who doesn't have the first clue how to lead. So our "leader" is doing the only thing he knows how to do, which is campaign.

Never did anyone say it would be paid for as we went along. In fact it was you idiot dems who said we went to war for oil. Had we forced iraq to pas we go it would be their oil. Now that obama is in office he will probably not allow them to pay anything to prove bush's administration was wrong. it is well documented, anything Iraq would pay would be after the war.

                  That was a genuine question, which my whole family, has asked in various forms. My mom and sister are, understandably, still a wreck. We have yet to get a satisfactory answer, other than the " he did not die in vain" etc. You know, the usual form letter answer. I don't bring it up often and certainly don't use it as an emotional appeal. It's been over two years now. That said, thanks to all for their kind thoughts. He really was a very dear, thoughtful , bright person. You would have liked him. Really! I don't mean to go on and on. Yet, thanks for letting me vent a little.

                I never met a General who didn't want more soldiers. The biggest mistake you can make when you are planning for battle is to underestimate your enemy- Military 101, if you will. I'm not trying to down play it- we need more troops!!!!! Congress sets the numbers- Demo prez - demo congress - obama will get them most likely.

                I think by fall Americans are going to get real tired of Afghanistan. I have a bad feeling as far as the number of soldiers we'll lose there. Tough terrain - tough fighters - unlike the Iraqi's.

                I'm not saying the whole daddy bush assination -younger bush - payback conspiracy didn't have something to do with Iraq and pulling out of afghanistan. I don't believe it was just one thing. WMDs - sorry - but that could've been a factor, or we just wanted to kick some @ss for 9/11. Saddam was too smart either. You can't say Bush didn't warn him:)

I am very conservative in some areas, mostly fiscally. I am liberal in others- legalizing mary jane. Smoke it till your hearts content.                     Look, John Wayne is the only guy that had perfect battles, strategies, etc- on TV. Real war isn't like that. Very fluid to say the least. Mistakes have been made. I served from Carter to Bush and they all make mistakes. Wars don't come with instruction pamphlets. I know my Unit respected G.W. as I did.               But, in addition to ALL THE INTELLIGENCE, there was that memo that al Qaeda intended to strike within the U.S.

              Nada. No alerts. No emergency.... anything.

              So Dubya kept us safe...

              I know, let's forget those ten months or more. Hey, let's blame it on 'the others'.

        Here are some reasons I know he's brilliant. I read his books. The two best by a President or a candidate I've ever read. The first was written when he was 28. Think about that.

        I practiced law over twenty years. Know some brilliant lawyers, internationally renowned. None is in his class.

        I went to a prominent, highly competitive law school. Harvard is the best, most competitive in the world. I was on law review. You cannot volunteer. Only the most accomplished students are selected. It is the highest, most exclusive academic recognition possible. He was elected president of it by his peers. These are the best and brightest, most competitive law students in the world. They chose him.

        I recently saw an interview of Henry Kissinger. He was asked what he thought of him. He started by saying he opposed Obama in the election. Since, he has met with Obama. He called him "brilliant". (Btw, he was asked to compare the strong points of Dubya and Obama. Kissinger hesitates, thinks, hems and haws, and says: "Obama is analytical." Didn't say a thing about Dubya. HA! Nuff said.)

        From what I've read, and so many people, including Rs, saying that Obama is always the smartest guy in the room, I don't think there is anyone, except an ignorant who lacks the capacity to tell, who does not acknowledge Obama is brilliant.

        Finally. First it was that Obama is just an empty suit eloquent public speaker. No, his eloquence is a reflection of his brilliance, not the sum of it.

I know, I've lived in comfort and poverty, and spending more money than I had to get back on my feet never worked, it can't. It didn't work in the 1920's and won't this time either.     When MSNBC posted a forum requesting we mark him A-B-C-D-F, F and D predominated. So what MSNBC does is discard the forum with no comment. When you are clever enough to use one of these things (not much cleverness required) you are clever enough to see through the shams that first, calls themselves independent and second, derides all that does not march in lockstep with you, even political dabblers see right through you.
    What has Obama done? Alienated Catholics. drove us toward bankruptcy, committed faux pas galore in dealing with our allies, gone back on his word re: appointees, the list goes on and on.

      Pia, I did read them, and thank you. My comments regarding honesty were not in any way directed at you, however 40y knew exactly who they were directed at. Actually, I admire your forthrightness here. You've changed your political view (and side) and are neither ashamed or afraid to say so. IMO, you show great respect for your new party. I have always respected that and likewise found your attitude refreshing.

      I agree, this has once again gotten entirely out of hand. It's not so much the subject, but more the fact that two people have such a distinct disdain for each other. For my part, I'm not willing to continue making the same points over and over again. I find that wearisome to say the least, and I should think equally if not more so for the other people here. I believe Forty feels the same way. Btw, Forty feels badly about all of this also, and like me sees this as an unworkable situation. I really should not comment any further on his part.

      I've been encouraged to take a break from NW... although this is a great place to converse, it is most certainly not intended private wars. Please accept my apology for my part in this getting out of hand once again.

    According to Politico, "the FEC allows elected officials to use campaign funds to pay legal fees only if the action/investigations arise as a result of their tenure in office or campaigns."

    That seems to be fairly straightforward rule by the FEC. So???how much of the million dollars (700k since the election and 300k pre-election) was spent fighting lawsuits by "a former presidential candidate, a former deputy attorney general, many legislators, active-duty U.S. military," and others?

    Did Obama use campaign funds to fight the disclosure of his college records from Occidental because they might show that he enrolled as a foreign citizen? Why else would he hire a high-priced lawyer whose other clients include Amazon, Starbucks, and Microsoft?

    What about Choice C? If the lawsuits are so frivolous, why not just ignore them, and let them be dismissed? Maybe we were right when we hypothesized last year that Obama is hiding the fact that his original birth certificate was sealed, and replaced with one in the name Soetoro, reflecting Indonesia citizenship.

    ....Hmmmm...looking more and more like...these dawgs are on a scent....

Let's discuss the Church's anti-abortion beliefs, okay? What of the women members of the Church who have abortions every day and then continue to attend church on sundays? If I'm not mistaken, the Catholic Church consists of more members than leaders, therefore the millions of members are the Church. No members, no Catholic Church. In conclusion, the Catholic Chruch and that ridiculous Glendon woman, are two big hypocrites and phony and liars. Ms. Glendon has decided to disrespect the president who was elected by 54% of Catholics. I suspect this is what the Church's big belly ache is about!

      I see that you are not rigidly bound to Catholic dogma anymore Pia so I feel safe in saying this.

      The Catholic church was so caught up in its own righteous certitude about what God wants that they burned many at the stake in numerous Inquisitions over hundreds of years. There have been many other ways in which slaughters and dominations of entire cultures have been done, and 'justified' in the name of God. Crusades. South America.

      They kept services in Latin and discouraged reading the Bible (right into my childhood) because they did not want people to think; they wanted to tell people what to think. That church still asserts infallibility as it always has. It still teaches infallibility of Popes. Doesn't take a lot of reading about Popes to figure that one out.

      Well they've had to scale back because the population is now better educated. They've had to adapt.

      But they want us all to believe that they got God's intentions about women, conception and child birth. They insist. And those who also know better what God wants and they also wnat to feel superior to others and dictate to them, also insist. And they seek to impose their pseudo righteousness on and over others.

      I am glad you are not letting people push you around with that I-know-precisely-what-God-wants-and-you-don't-so-I'm-better-than-you need to dominate, dictate and denigrate, Pia.

    The case raises many of the same arguments as dozens of other lawsuits that have flooded into courtrooms around the nation since the November election.

    It was filed in January by attorney Mario Apuzzo of New Jersey on behalf of Charles F. Kerchner Jr., Lowell T. Patterson, Darrell James Lenormand and Donald H. Nelson Jr. It names as defendants Barack Hussein Obama II, the U.S., Congress, the Senate, House of Representatives and former Vice President Dick Cheney along with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

    Even though extensions had been granted to an initial round of requests to delay the proceedings, the government now says it needs even more time to prepare a response to a question that could be answered with a five-minute telephone call from the president to Hawaiian officials asking that his birth documentation be made public.

    Instead, a request submitted by Ralph Marra Jr., the acting U.S. attorney, and Elizabeth Pascal, the assistant U.S. attorney in New Jersey, explains that the Department of Justice, operating under Obama appointee Attorney General Eric Holder, still is working on a decision on representation for the defendants.

                  Notre Dame/Catholic Church-What do I think? I don't think much of them for disrespecting our president. I am dumping them after this latest behavior. I haven't been attending church much lately because I am not happy with the Church,and now I have even more reason to completely stop. I will stay home and pray instead. No more money from me either. I am planning on sending them back the dozens of donation envelopes filled with a photo of Obama and a little note that reads Catholic Church=Hypocrites.

                  The Vatican-I care not what they think. They didn't care about the little boys who were molested and raped. Btw-I have two cousins who are serving in the Priesthood at the Vatican. Thye're not happy with the Catholic Church either. Nice, huh?

    I disagree with your poll that says Obama scored High in his fiest 100 days. Everyone I've spoken with says he's done nothing but but our nation in jeperdy in more ways then one.     "To say that it should not be made public knowing that it might scare people it's just confounding," Sen. Charles Schumer said. "It's what gives Washington and government a bad name. It's sheer stupidity."

    The NYPD was so upset about the demand for secrecy that Police Commissioner Ray Kelly vowed never to follow such a directive again and he accused the feds of inciting fears of a 9/11 replay.

    The cost of the frivolous flight was about $60,000 an hour and that was just for Air Force One. That doesn't include the cost of the two F-16s that came along.
