Scoring Obama’s First 100 Days

With all that the president has done, he's in league, so far, with FDR and LBJ. But early success is just that.

How to score O'S FIRST 100 DAYS....hummmm......where to start...well, the economy is in the worse shape its been in over 70 years, people are out of work, businesses are closing faster than lightening bolts, foreclosesures are a daily occurance, so are bankrupties, on a personal level, my family is in the worse shape its ever been financially, and we were doing fine up until a few months ago, prices are going up on everything, wages are going down or non exsistent, so total it all up, I'd say this administration is not doing so well, at least not for the people. For themselves, they seem to be doing great, but what is missing is the doing great thing means it is suppose to include everyone, not just the fat cats, so now, you tell me, how do YOU think its going? He hasn't exactly started out his second 100 with a warm welcoming hug from a lot of Americans, and some of them are liberals, either, with his denial of National Prayer Day, because He didn't want to "offend anyone". REALLY?!? Well, what about christians? They were offended. Does that mean christians aren't considered important, so offending them is ok? This politically correct nonsense is just that---nonsense. If anyone does not want to participate in a particular celebration, then just ignor it, or find another option for that day. And if Christmas offends anyone, then don't celebrate it, go to work as usual, do not go to any Christmas parties, or participate in any way. Same for Easter. If the American flag is offense to you, then don't fly one. But keep in mind, this IS AMERICA, so those of us who chose to WILL celebrate all those holidays, including National Prayer Day, and we will fly our AMERICAN FLAG, AND STATE FLAG, BUT NO OTHER. We WILL continue to be respectful, and will not deliberately offend anyone, but we will not allow you to take away our God given rights or our Constitutional rights, and if any of that is offensive to you, then its time for you to find another country to live in which is more to your liking, because THIS ONE IS AMERICA, AND ITS BEEN TAKEN NOW FOR OVER 200 YEARS, AND WE LIKE THINGS THAT WAY, so if you don't, we wish you well in your new country of choice. Peace.

Obama gets a F. F = failure to extent the current taxcuts and for not overhauling the whole tax system. Obama's redistribution of wealth goes something like this:
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that???s what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. ???Since you are all such good customers, he said, ???I???m
going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what a bout the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the
$20 windfall so that everyone would get his ???fair share???? They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody???s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man???s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

Obama gets an F. F = failure to continue the taxcuts and for not restructuring our tax codes continued:

And so: The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings). The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. ???I only got a dollar out of the $20', declared the sixth man.
He pointed to the tenth man,??? but he got $10!??? ???Yeah, that???s right???, exclaimed the fifth man. ???I only saved a
dollar, too. It???s unfair that he got ten times more than me!??? ???That???s true!!??? shouted the seventh man. ???Why should he get $10
back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!??? ???Wait a minute,??? yelled the first four men in unison. ???We
didn???t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!??? The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn???t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill they discovered something important. They didn???t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill! And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

NBC / GE is experiencing the greatest decline in viewership among all networks, due simply to the collusion between parent and illegitimate child in this sham of a reporting agency.

I will be very glad when the final nail, aka Chapter 13, finds it's way to GE.

Your lack of professionalism disgusts me.

Just as I moments ago intimated to the staff at '24', take a very long hike.

We'll see you in Philadelphia, or wherever it happens to take place, on the occasion of the modern Constitutional Convention. The good people of this country will overthrow the insane socialists, like most in NBC, who think it's OK to run roughshod on our Constitution, to open our orders to thugs, to free terrorists, and to let an illegitimate thug occupy the White House.

Trust me, we will take care of that, too.

If you think you can simply undermine every tenet of freedom we have fought many wars to protect, based on a temporary Fillibuster-proof Senate, you had better think again. The blowback you are about to experience will be unprecedented.

Look for the next "Independece Day" on July 4, 2009.
This won't be just any TEA party.
If you fail to cover it accurately, you will regret it.

Whatever dude. My wife and I own a business and know how hard it is to run one when the Govt continually reaches into your wallet to take more and more. The economy is going to a cash economy more and more so that businesses can survive. That means less tax revenue to the treasury, not more. You want more revenue then you have to give businesses (especially smaller ones) incentives to grow and hire more people. We had to layoff a person recently because we could not afford to pay her due to business slowing down. So if you want more economic activity, you have to put more money into people's and businesses pockets. $14 a month or week whatever it is as a tax break does not exactly cut it. We need a flat tax so that everybody pays some taxes. If not, then those who do not pay taxes will always vote for the party that promises them goodies. Those are my thoughts and if they happen to agree with some of the people who work at Fox so be it. Most of the rest of the LIBERAL media agrees with your viewpoint, so what is your beef with Fox and those who agree with them? Isn't descent (spelling?) patriotic as Hillary once said? Obama's plan might be ideal in theory, but it does not work in the real world because when you put an undue burden on people who are the payers of the majority of taxes, they are not going to produce as much because it will not be worth it to them to work as hard. That is the way it is. I cannot help you if you don't see the truth.

I love the "qualifying statements"...like this "My wife and I own a business"

let's see what are some of the classics:
                    1. I am an Iraq vet
                    2. I am a black woman
                    3. I am ex military
                    4. I am NOT racist
                    5. I am a small bus owner
                    6. I am a democrat...but
and it goes on and on too many to recall, so, DUDE, if you're in agreement with FOX TEABAGGER NOISE, I feel sorry not only for your "wife" (AKA your right hand and some lotion) but your Business and customers as well.

You think the "TRUTH" in found on FOX TEABAGER NOISE...LMAO! answer me this:
                    1. Who is Major General Kevin Bergner?
                    2. Who is Manfred Nowak?
just for starters, now I know you're gonna google them, and that's ok, it's just a couple of people FOX TEABAGGER will NEVER metion...in their "truth" sessions.

I am of the impression the only truth Harley cares about is a Progressive vision of the future where we have to apologize for every success we have as an individual and never feel the sting of defeat. Or Harley just likes to stir the pot with BS retoric to have some fun. Either way the stances taken in Harley's email are ill informed and/or childish. The Tea Parties have nothing to do with FOX and nothing to do with Obama, Bush started this move towards socialist/fascist rule with his administration's stupid moves culminating in TARP. History should teach us that when you compromise on your most fundamental ideals, then you are making the wrong decision.

Harley- Get a life, then get educated, then look at the whole political picture. This is no longer a world of Democrat vs. Republican or Progressive vs Right Wing Extremist- it is the government against the founding principles of our country as outlined in our founding father's goals for the country. For the record- Civil Rights and Women's sufferage do count as principles of our country since "All men are created equal", unfortunately in those times the definition of "men" was not all encompassing, to clear up any questions as to my racist or sexist leanings.

To my regret, I was not as concerned, no. And I should have been. One hundred percent. I try to learn from my mistakes.

But on the other hand, I sure wasn't planning violence against him, either. And it was two years into his Presidency before I started to become angry with him. I gave him quite a chance and I still try to advocate for those few positive things he did - an early (if later repudiated) attempt at a new Palestinian state, a positive foreign aid policy to Africa, a warning (however feeble it may have been - it didn't make it to many news outlets) about the leveraging ratios back in 2003. I don't think some of the people making strident calls for his head - whether metaphorical, physical OR political, or some combination of the three - are willing to give Obama any sort of benefit of the doubt, probably because a lot of the ones who are angriest are stern moral absolutists who don't see doubt, or shades of gray, or anything beyond their own absolute conception of what they consider "evil".

He scared me, to put it honestly. And so I didn't assign him the place of concern that I should have in my heart for all the American people in the past. But that was the past, and this is now. And I'm learning from my mistakes.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I hope the Secret Service is protecting Bush as strongly as they are Obama. There are angry liberals out there - not me, for sure, and not the majority of us by any means, and far less than present conservatives - and just about everything I've said about Obama and his need for protection applies just as strongly to Bush as well. If either man is harmed, we will probably see nationwide riots across major cities and maybe even rural areas as well. It's time for ALL of us to make a turn to peace, and to agree that, whatever your political views, preserving the safety of our citizens from domestic terror is just as important as it is foreign terror.

(To any agencies that may watch this thread, I have no information whatsoever about any actual plan to harm either man on either side of the fence. I'm just concerned, and I think that the subject, however unpleasant it may be to talk about, still is one that may need to be talked about.)

We always had sociaslism for the rich, this is why they pay a lessor percent of their incomes in taxes (an example: Warren Buffett stated that he paid 19% of his income, whereras his secreatary paid 33%); not to mention the facts that we pass laws and start wars to protect THEIR interests (the war in Iraq comes to mind), we can also thank the rich for prohibition and the war on drugs; iif we were a true capitalist society then we would have opium dens on every street, and you neocons would be griping about that...

Besides could you imagine that twit Palin in the Whitehouse?

          • Posted By: MJ000777 @ 04/28/2009 1:29:25 AM

Well Fourth, I could care less if Warren Buffet paid 30-40% of his income as he can surely afford it. However when small businesses get lumped in as rich and have to pay whatever the pctg is that we pay to the Fed govt, the State, govt and the local govt in taxes, fees, etc. that is when I have a problem. Call me a NeoCon if that helps, but I am telling you as a small business owner that I cannot afford Barack's Cap and Trade, Natl health care taxes, the crazy taxes and fees imposed by the state of Cali, etc. I am hardly rich, but you know under BOs vision he will see me as such and want to spread the wealth around. It all sounds fine in theory, but this kind of socialism will not work.

            • Posted By: Vigilance @ 04/28/2009 3:31:35 PM

              1) Given how often conservatives complain about the 30% and up tax bracket, it weakens your position to say that you don't care if Buffett's tax rate is just as high.

              2) As far as cap and trade goes, it's meant to curb high-density, high-pollution industries such as coal power, oil power, chemical factories, et cetera and most carbon taxes will go to them. If you're a small business owner, how is cap and trade specifically going to affect you? Does your business really emit that much CO2?

              3) While I sympathize and agree with small business taxes being too high - my mother owns one as well, and I'm trying to start one - what I don't see in your post is any notion of being grateful that you have a solvent business and an income at all. This recession has been the HARDEST on unskilled laborers who don't have much to begin with, and they had the least to do with causing it of any group out there. I spoke to one the other day who is finding it hard to buy enough protein to adequately feed his family. Small business taxes could stand to go down in this country - BUT at the very least, you might try being grateful that you have enough to HAVE a small business, to be ABLE to employ people, to be able to go to the grocery store without having to check every purchase against your meager savings the way a lot of people who are being hurt badly by this crisis without having done anything to deserve it are.

Actually, most carbon taxes will passed off to the consumers. The power companies will just increase our electric bills some more.

I still think this dude is planning something, or is part of a group that's planning something, to happen on Independence Day, and I don't think it's anything nice, to say the least. I urge people to be really "vigilant" (if I can say that) about trying to prevent violence and/or destructive civil unrest that day.

These comments and many others on the Internet have definitely convinced me that there is at least part of our population that absolutely doesn't plan to see Barack Obama through his term peacefully. We have GOT to make sure our President is allowed to live with peace and dignity, as any American has the right to. There's a lot of hope right now - but if Obama is harmed, a lot will transmute to anger. And we have enough of that already.

The only thing he has done so far is conduct record spending and setting record debt, which we owe to China who is financing all of this. Obama and his administration have set the constitution aside and ignored it with some of their actions. For those who think he is so great, by the time the next elections get here, this country will have record inflation. He will have sealed his fate and stand no chance for re election.

  • Posted By: Mwalimu @ 05/05/2009 6:27:35 PM

Obama deserves an A. He has taken some bold steps. I firmly support all of his proposals because I want America to be the leading nation of the 21st century - not China - and certainly not the United Arab Emirites. As Tom Friedman pointed out in an article that appeared in Newsweek just a few weeks ago, the nation that de-carbonizes its economy first will lead the world in the 21st century. I might also point out that I sure wish I had invested in First Solar last January.
The institution we really need to grade is the Senate. The Senate is filled with political prostitutes who are far more interested in paying back the lobbyists who supported them than the future of this country. All of the GOP must go, we should think twice about some of the Democrats as well.

Obama is nothing like FDR. Here is a message you need to read and something to think about: All of us that are on Social Security that did not vote for Obama want to say thank you to all of you that are on Social Security that voted for Obama. Because of your vote we all get to watch Obama give billions of dollars to people so they don???t lose the house they should have never purchased in the first place. We all get to watch Obama give billions of dollars to companies that have mismanaged their money. We all get to watch Obama give billions of dollars to third world countries. But most of all we get to watch Obama take away the yearly cost of living increase for Social Security for the next two years. I live on a fixed income and I get to watch the cost of everything go up other than my income. On Jan 2010 and Jan 2011 because I am on Social Security I will not get a cost of living increase. So I say thank you to those that voted for Obama.

It has only been 100 days. How can there be any noticeable results since the economy dropped off a cliff through the Bush regime??? Our economic recovery will not be easy or fast like a fast-food drive-through. We Americans need to retrain our thinking and look at the long-term results and not fall for the roughshod tactics of the GOP. Personally, I despised the bailouts for AIG, Goldman Sachs, and the banks. These firms do not give a dame about USA workers or strengthening the economy. One thing that is tried and true throughout our nation's history....strong middle-class workforce=strong economy; good USA livable/family wage jobs outsourced or gone-for-good=bad/collapsed economy.

Hello, created an account for only a few questions which have been on my mind for some time so I will keep it as brief as I can.

Did I miss something in Jr. High School the President has no control over congresses and their spending and laws?

The underlining melt down of our economy was a direct end result of the ???Community Reinvestment Act??? enacted by the Democrats; also know as ???Housing for all??? which was started by President Carter. Then defend and backed by Senators Franks, Dodds and Pelosi to the point where we have this wonderful economy.

In 2003 Senator John McCain and the Republicans on behalf of President Bush tried to regulate and control the ???Community Reinvestment Act??? the person in charge of the spending and regulation was Franks? Franks, Dodds and Pelosi and the Democrats then proceeded to defend and defeated the attempt. Shouldn???t we all send them a Thank You note?

Barney Franks and the Democrats are in charge of Spending and now have control of the Stimulas monies, am I the only one which sees a problem with this scenario?

You all Crucify President Bush, the President has no control over Congress? Yes/No?

  • Posted By: Empren @ 04/26/2009 1:58:24 PM

All I'm seeing day to day is more spending.. nothing worthwhile.. what happens when the inflation from those trillions Obama is throwing at the economy (with no real noticeable results) catches up to us? People may think were on the right track but once inflation jumps up 10% from his spending what will people think then. I'm really curious to see what the government will blame this new crisis on. I know for a fact they will try to play it off as something other than their ridculous spending as being at fault.

    • Posted By: TheFourthHorseman @ 04/26/2009 2:11:01 PM

I dislike the bail outs as well (especially in regards to the archaic auto industry).

I have a few questions for you: Where were you when Bush casted the intial bail outs? How concerned were you when he spent trillions on a war for profiot? What are your thoughts on the Patriot Act?

Your post reeks of partisanship, which is precisely why nobody takes you tea baggeres seriously.......

      • Posted By: onepoker @ 04/27/2009 12:14:39 AM

Most of the Tea baggers were opposed to government spending even under Bush. As for the Patriot act. I dont really care if terrorist rights are violated. And I consider regular every day americans that take calls from terrorists terrorists. So dont give me that violation of citizens rights crap.

        • Posted By: TheFourthHorseman @ 04/28/2009 1:45:32 AM

"Most of the Tea baggers were opposed to government spending even under Bush."

Then where the Hell were they when Bush was spending like a drunken sailor all those years (that was my question, that you did NOT bother to answer)? I vividly remember being called "unamerican" and being asked to "leave America" by you neocon teabaggers back in 2003 when I called Bush out for spending, this is the hypocrisy I spoke of...

I highly doubt you even read the Patriot Act; you shoudl see this thing, perhaps the most Draconian law that passed sense Wilson's Sedition Act (though at least that had a sunset clause, and was NOT renewed).....

PS: You teabaggers were the same dolts who bought French wine and dumped it into the sewers when the French and germans declined to support Bush's boondoggle (which all of you concerned fiscal neocons (note: I did not say conservatives) were behind). Yes paying your hard earned money for expensive wine and dumping it into the sewer sure showed them...

To summarize: Your hypocrisy in griping about Obama's spending when praising Curiour George for his spending accompanied by your doltish attempts at being revolutionaries is exactly why NOBODY is taking you seriously.

Yet the GAO observes that the federal debt was:

            2.85 trillion in 1990 and,

8.75 trillion in Bushs last year in office.

            Calculator please.

            Thank you.

This equates to just under 6 trillion dollars in 18 years.

The same GAO reports that the debt was 9 trillion when Obama took office and stands at 12.65 trillion now.

Or, just under 4 trillion dollars in less than 100 days, with the projection to go to 16.50 trillion by 2012.

An record unsurpassed in American history.

But Obama needs to spend the dough to Get Us Out Of The Mess That Bush Created.

Not so fast. The same GAO and the CBO and the SIGTARP [federal regulators] stated flatly to Congress that TARP is completely without oversight of any way shape or form, thus the ''750 billion'' that went down the original rathole, will be increased to 3 trillion to follow said 750 billion.

            Result?

Bank of America is going under. Ditto GM where 10% of its stock was given to shareholders, 40 % to the UAW, and 50% being held by the government.PONTIAC has disappeared, and CITIGROUP is begging for even more money, while every single last state in America is expected to be at double-digit unemployment by summer, except for this place.

            The District of Columbia.

            Now why would this be....?

Debt-to-GDP-ratio calculator for the last four Presidents, please, Lee. Get the figures and come back. And quit pointing at dollar values without adjusting for the productivity with which we can pay them back, the rate of inflation, et cetera...it's a pretty uninformed way to try to do economic analysis.

              • Posted By: Lee Holmes @ 04/29/2009 7:58:38 PM

                Wont wash. Heres why.

Your factoring in of inflation [quite minimal in fact] ignores the gigantic amount of debt owed the Chinese alone since 1990. This does not take into consideration debts owed other nations which were either non-existant or minimal stakeholders in American businesses at this time. While the older GOP majority in Congress bears culpability in this, the Democrats have had this body for nearly three years since economists were raising the alarm and did nothing. It is to these that the Constitution mandates the ''making of laws'' that could have warded off increasing Chinese ownership of American financial enterprise [and again, this is just one area].
The fact remains that from Jan 21, 2007 and Jan.21,2009, the debts incurred here are the ownership of the ruling party, and that there are plans to vastly increase this debt. 3 trillion more for TARP alone, plus the 1 trillion already spent, with more trillions for healthcare reform that has shown no evidence whatever to be free of waste and fraud, or that it even be effective. Social Security, ''green ''tech, foreign policy outlay, and these species of ''shovel ready''projects that are not shovel ready, demanding hundreds of billions even trillions more. Even the non-partisan GAO and CBO both observe that the amount of spending will be a gigantic burden to generations of Americans to come and demand that Obama reel in this spending, now totally and completely without oversight [as nearly all of the above financial and government websites and more, attest to].

              • Posted By: jh35180 @ 04/29/2009 4:30:18 PM

Lee is right. Yes, Bush got us into debt, but compared to Obama (spend first and ask questions) later, Bush is a lightweight. Obama has outspent every President combined and that was just in three months. But the typical Obamist answer is, Well we were trying to correct 8 years of Bush. How long are the Obamists going to play that tune?

              • Posted By: libertyfirst @ 04/29/2009 3:47:07 PM

Debt to GDP means little when discussing the rate of government spending...and certainly not with respect to what the GAO reports each year. And adjusting for inflation? I think the scant inflation we've seen in the US over the last decade would account for the incredible rate of debt accumulation that Lee is correctly pointing out.

        • Posted By: TheFourthHorseman @ 04/28/2009 2:15:11 AM

I'd take Carter over Reagen anyday... Carter inheritted a nice deficit from LBJ and Nixon, which he was attempting to take care of; not to mention his attempts to clean up the environemnt, which included moving toward green technology (a process that cannot happen over night). Carter put solar panels on the Whitehouse, and Reagan took them down (this wasn't very conservative on his part, considering tyhat the Sun is free). Reagen killed the EPA, eased regulations (making them volentary, as if corporatyions have enough decency and accountability to care about our resources, Ha); we can thank him for our cancer ridden water and hermaphroditic fish...

My point is: Carter was dead on with moving us in this direction, had we stayed that corse we would be leading the world in industry rather than being stuck in worthless service jobs while our environment erodes, all in the name of lining the pockets of oilmen. I would hope we could at least agree that Carter's advocacy of an alternative fuel source was revolutionary, no? Imagine if we spent our energy seeking alternative energy sources, rather than finding faster ways to type pointless drivvel with our thumbs...

I suppose everyone has their pet issues...

"CBS 2 HD has discovered the feds will have plenty to question."

Federal officials knew that sending two fighter jets and Air Force One to buzz ground zero and Lady Liberty might set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay, but they still ordered the photo-op kept secret from the public.

In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD the Federal Aviation Administration's James Johnston said the agency was aware of "the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes" in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor's office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out.

"To say that it should not be made public knowing that it might scare people it's just confounding," Sen. Charles Schumer said. "It's what gives Washington and government a bad name. It's sheer stupidity."

The NYPD was so upset about the demand for secrecy that Police Commissioner Ray Kelly vowed never to follow such a directive again and he accused the feds of inciting fears of a 9/11 replay.

"Did it show any insensitivity to the psychic wounds New York City has after 9/11? Absolutely. No questions about it. It was quite insensitive."

The cost of the frivolous flight was about $60,000 an hour and that was just for Air Force One. That doesn't include the cost of the two F-16s that came along.

The mayoral aide who neglected to tell Mayor Michael Bloomberg about it was reprimanded."

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the museum of recent repig history. Please see just below an example of the paranoid hate relic " CornHolyO ", an excellent example of the typical conspiracy theorist, end is near type. This breed found themselves all too often disappointed. as NOTHING they ever "predicted" came to be, their delusional state brought forth some of the most "creative" fantasies about what would happen if the Democrat Obama won. The utter desperation with which this common relic of the past tries to spread fear is at best pathetic, on average tragic. The common paranoid repig relic will continue to try an undermine through false accusations and outright lies, in a desperate attempt to CLING to the politics of the past, politics of fear and hate. Don't be alarmed however, nearly ALL repigs have been rendered harmless as of 11/04/08. The Democrat Obama essentially neutered them by running a campaign of honesty, character, dignity, virtue, hope, and optimism. All these things are like poison to the common repig and as a result the repig party has been shaken to it's core, and now forced to either redefine it's self or forever remain a party of the past.

Next we'll see "The Hall of Hannity" be sure and hold your nose as this place reeks of fear, hate, lies, racism, and propaganda.
