The people of Pakistan need to curtail the power of the military elites, otherwise, they probably have less than 3 years before they disintegrate into pieces.
A good place to look for ideas is in Bangladesh: the people overthrew the military government of General Ershad in 1990, forced Khaleda Zia's corrupted government to resign in 1996 and gave Sheikh Hasina a chance to govern, but her corruption was parallel to the former. Then, the people gave Khaleda Zia a chance once again, but her corruption level was exponentially higher in her second term, so we mandated the military, to clean up both the Corrupted Parties, and when the military became too powerful, we FORCED the military to conduct an election.
When the subordinate Islamist groups attempted to terrorize Bangladesh, we hanged them by the dozens and banned political parties based on religion. Bangladesh is not a convenient hatching ground for terrorists, the terrorists realized that, i am sure, after losing their lives, to the Bangladeshi Justice System.
Bangladesh is not a land of the Muslims, not a land of the Hindus, not a land of the Buddhists, not a land of the Christians, or any other religion, for that matter. BANGLADESH IS THE LAND OF BANGALI NATION...........regardless of religious affiliation, race, sex, color, sexual orientation.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, this is how democracy should be, "MANDATE OF THE PEOPLE".
As a consequence, the military and the political parties in Bangladesh are well experienced to know, that if they do not abide by the people, the people will exercise their power and DISCIPLINE the corrupted party/parties.
In a sense, the people of Bangladesh have more freedom to choose, than any given nation of the world and therefore, although not perfect, but a fair representaion of Lincoln's "Government of the people, by the people and, for the people".
