China is not in any race with any country, and especially with india. Why would China care how well the Indians are doing ? In india, the lates survey shows that 800 million Indians live on less than $2/day; while China today has less than 200 million who live at that level. China has only just began to develop, and to say conservatively, China only began to develop from 1974, the year that Nixon's visit and also the begining of the rappoachment between USA and China. We Chinese are very beholdened to the Americans, but the growth of China has all been china's own effort alone.

Why would China want to go head to head with India ? China's growth has been more than phinomenal, it has been historic and there has never been a nation that has dveloped at such lighting speed and so successfully. To just show you how incredible had been the Chinese speed and depth of the development and growth of China, it is announced that China's hoad of gold bullion stands at 1054 ton of gold. We are only one of 6 nations that holds more than 1000 tons of gold. The USA holds 34% while China holds only 2.6 %, but then you have to take into account that the USA owes the world 10 trillion dollars and China is owed by the USA 2 trillion; so how will that equate in real terms ? That said I do not see India mentioned anywhere nor has any other Latin Americans nation that has been put in the lisst for comparison.

Yes ! China has lagged behind for the last 200 years but then in the last 40 years China has shot up from 100 something in a list of 187 nations in just 40 years to be now number 2, how will India compare ? What will attract more envy or even jealousy is that fact that Mainland China and Taiwan are now on the mend and with the return of Taiwan to Chiina, China will get stronger by another 30% at least.

This is the first time that I have read anything written by Melinda Liu that is anyhting like flaterring, but Miss Liu has written a well balanced piece,and I congratulate her for it. I say this to those who only bear ill will towards China. we have caught up to the west and we are now standing at the crest of the new wave of technological development of science and technology. China 's achievements over out 10,000 year history, China had never beenbeatened by any other nation. We will be there again because China has this time taken our place at the starting block and we run fast.

In military technology, we have shown off our native designed and built nuclear submarine and China has already announced that we will built our own aircraft carrier and when China say she will , she has proven that she can do it at the flick of their eyes. Why would we want to compare with India ?

Smart money's is going to India and South America. China, mirrors just mirrors mostly propaganda and little fact. To much technical and not enough rhythm. Dancing with a Chinese partner is like holding a rock that is afraid to move without years of deep thought. The song is long over by the time the decided to move. China, they have a wall around their hearts, their heads, and their culture. Again a wast of time and money. Courtship is over, the real honeys are in India and South America. Bye bye china the world finds you oh so parochial, your nationalism is a disease and makes you so small minded and dangerous.
