Hey I control the interest rate. I did put the oil to $147, then $40,
not $200 -it was a choice I made.

    I applaud it. Good.

And lets put America's greatest enemy on that list while we are at it:

Salazar says: "Part of the solution needs to be in managing our lands in such a way that fewer species reach the point where they need to be listed,"

He's right about that one -- and the first thing Salazar, who comes from a long line of livestock interests, would be to get livestock off our public lands -- now.

It sickens me that our single species is to blame for so many others demise. We must find a viable balance as soon as possible.

We also must realize that this is not a partisan issue; at least we can no longer consider it a political one, if we are to truly progress toward living in some sort of relative harmony with this wonder full ball of water floating through space.

Do you hear people? Introduced species like the cat are threatening native species..... And no, the cat is not a native species, it was introduced from Egypt to europe, then from europe to the united states. the very large majority of song birds are on a steep decline because of cats ! It is estimated that cats kill 2 billion birds each year !! Not only they kill song birds who feed on pest insects like flies, mosquitos, but they kill frogs, lezards, goffers, rabits and on and on.

Keep you cats indoor and shoot cats who are roaming outdoors. It is so bad that some states now allow the shooting of cats who have become a threat and a pest ! Sorry cat lovers, but your cat is a borned killer !

I applaud Newsweek for its reporting on endangered species. Hope the coverage continues. Also hope we give special attention to the Northern Jaguar. It was listed as an endangered species in the United States in 1997 -- 12 long years ago -- and has no protection whatsoever ... even though that protection is required by law. If more people knew that we have our own big cat -- alongside Africa's lions, leopards and cheetah's, and Asia's tiger -- perhaps we'd do more to protect this national treasure. Google The Jaguar Habitat Campaign and find out more.

The native species of plants and animals requiring vital protection, are the veritable strands in the web of all life or biodiversity, the living parts and components that are the glue of Earth's ecosystems, all the reasons mankind exists in the first place. All of the species have jobs to perform for and niches in their ecosystems that govern all of Earth's systems, life-gifting functions and vital cycles, like the nitrogen cycle, the carbon cycle, balancing the gaseous composition of the atmosphere, releasing oxygen and climate regulation to name a handful of vital ecosystem services. For instance, insectivores are in the eco-nomics of protecting mankind from emerging viruses, like the current flu pandemic, species like birds, lizards and frogs, and Earth's amphibians are falling extinct all over the Earth and reptiles are not far behind. And, these species protect mankind from emerging flu viruses. Earth's native plants are at the bottom of the ecological pyramid, and all interconnected food chains and webs are dependent upon plants and trees for food, shelter, cover and habitat.

One eco-scientist referred to mankind behaving, "suicidal" for destroying ecosystems and their biodiversity, the glue and fabric that hold Earth's ecosystems and man's lifelines to existence, altogether. Mankind is alive because of ecosystems and their biodiversity, the very animals and plants mentioned in said article: "In wildness is the salvation..."

Americans who follow the constitution should be added to the list as they are the most endangered.

I would add unbiased, intelligent news journalists to the list They seem to be on the verge of extinction.

having said all of that, i don't feel confident that the job of protecting endangered species belongs in the hands of a political appointee. how can we expect a politician to promote their party's policy if they are beholding to those who think a tree is equal to a human or those who would drill for oil in arlington national cemetary if there was a profit in it.

the fact that many are being removed from the list underscores the need for conservation. the alligators in south florida were disappearing when i moved to south florida only a few years ago. now with the controlled hunts and the flooding of the everglades they are plentiful. i'm not sure if they're still protected but they've made a huge comeback.

we also have some old groth pine forests here that must be protected to allow woodpeckers to return from the brink of extinction. this can be accomplished by limiting growth in these areas. one thing that will never be extinct in fla. is people. we have more people than we have water for. a good example of over growth is the colorado river whch is totally consumed before reaching the ocean. new land is created each year in the areas that this big river used to flow over. i don't blame those wanting to live on the coasts. i love it, but we've got to limit growth or we'll be the ones in danger.

The Endangered Species Act is our nation???s safety net for plants and animals on the brink of extinction, and has a proven track record of success, having prevented the extinction of over 98% of species lucky enough to be listed. As reported above, the Obama administration took an important step forward by revoking one of Bush???s regulations which sought to weaken the Act. However, Interior Secretary Salazar has not yet committed to revoking Bush???s rule reducing protections to the polar bear, though he has special authority to do so through May 9th. You can ask Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to protect the polar bear by signing the online petition www.savethepolarbear.org. More information: www.biologicaldiversity.org.
