Out of the millions of people on facebook compared to the few that are montioring it, I would say they are doing a great job... A nipple, breast feeding or not, doesnt need to be seen online.. Last time I checked I really dont know anyone that wants to watch you breastfeed your kids... And yeah sure there are plenty of pornographic images throughout the website as just about any that you go to... The fact is that the whole situation is overwhelming with images that are obsene and truthfully there will always be the porn cops and then people that keep adapting to get around the rules to show themselves naked... They are doing what they can, and thats all we can ask unless you want to start breaking down on everyone and every little thing on the web, which is incomprehensible to every extent. Just think how bad it would be if no one was watching anything online... I dont think I would waste my time with sites like facebook or myspace if they werent being monitored, Im not a fan of big brother watching us and what we are doing... but this really isnt a bad thing. So I say Thank You!

This is a conundrum, I do not like porn in any form at any time, but at the same time I do not like anyone either elected or self appointed telling me what I can see or say. If you feel something is inappropriate that is your right to voice your opinion, but remember that is your only your opinion. If you find something that bothers you,you can either not read it or ignore it. But in censoring you are treading on the rights of the people and the Constitution of this country. I think your time would be better spent finding and reporting child porn to the proper authorities.

They are not treading on anyones rights. Bottom line is they own the equipment the programming and the site, therefore they have every right to say what can and cant be posted. If you dont want to be censored buy your own server, build your own program and launch your own site. Remember You use thier site for Free and they Pay the bills for all the equipment and programming.

Wow, how breastfeeding compares to porn pictures is seriously a confused view LOL I've come upon proflie pictures of a guys erect penis as he's jacking off, now Why? are those Nipple Cops not picking up on that? A dog taking a dump, ya well most of us don't wanna watch that for excitement either but perhaps some do and they shouldn't be allowed to put it on the public forum for young ones to have to stare at thanks.

This is a really odd thing to hear there are nipple cops on facebook. I've crossed by pictures of people going at it beyond full on porn style and no one was stopping them, it was on their profile picture even and I don't mean so small you can't see what part their were holding etc. And where as you normally can click a 'report this person' button on someone's profile if they are dumb enough to add you as a friend, in these cases I tried and their profiles didn't even have that option. How special is that. Checking for a nipple is a joke in comparison to what is on there.

I find the "Funny Side of Ugly" on Facebook offensive. It contains nudity or near nudity. pokes fun at obesity, and in general is just in poor taste. I have not looked for things of this nature, but from titles, I have broused by, think there is much more in need of being deleted.

What happened to freedom of speech and freedom of expression, you Nazi's. I will never ever use facebook just for this reason.

I find this aspect of Facebook (censorship) disgusting. Thumbs DOWN, Facebook, way down!

  • Posted By: tinkerbell78 @ 05/04/2009 8:11:06 PM

hmm.....facebook can censor what they wish. MY complaint is that i'd like to actively informed of the process in the aftermath in an overt way. i don't know if they have changed how it's done now. sometime not too long ago, facebook sent me a generic sounding message saying that SOMEthing on my profile had been flagged as inappropriate, then painstakingly went on to ambiguously tell me that they had removed the "offensive material" in the most obscure of terms, purposefully weren't telling me what it is, when it was flagged or by who, when it was exactly removed and then wrapped the message up with some thinly veiled warning about future content. there was no speicific person to address the reply to. i actually wrote them back on it, after looking around for a place to place an inquiry or complaint.

don't mind that they do what they have to do but i am asking for some transparency about what the heck they were talking about because i'd rather something upfront sent to me saying on such and such a date, THIS actual pic/note/video etc. was flagged. when you have 300+ tagged pics that you are pretty much familiar with and get a message like that---you start to second guess yourself. did a piece of aureola inadvertently slip in one of my beach pics? what ARE they talking about? what the hell is going on? i am a grad student, well over legal age. i don't have any scandalous pics, nipple shots or anything of the sort that i know of. i scoured my profile more than once after reading the message, ascertaining that there had been no content removed, the same pics, tags, notes, youtube links and info that i'd always had remained. was this an automatically generated response to someone flagging something in fun? *shrug* who knows? till this day i don't get it.

tinkerbell78, I don't work for FB, nor have I received any notice of this nature, so this is all conjecture. However, if something this vague was sent to you, and you can't find anything different on your page, I'd guess it was a phony note. Like the group of people who believe Facebook will delete the accounts of anyone who doesn't join THAT group to prove they are active users (even though the group description clearly states the FB database can track the last time a user logged in). I believe FB employees have much more integrity, and would be more up-front if there really was a violation.

    for Averyius:
First of all, don't call me you poor misled "friend" in one breath and then call me stupid and say that I should be kicked in the @#$$ for being a Christian in the next. What is wrong with you? Are you so closed-minded that your way of believing is the only right way? I sure don't condemn you for your belief system, as outlandish as I may believe it is, so who are you to insult others that way for what they believe? And yes, as a 34 year old married woman with 3 beautiful children, I do have sex, and yes, I think the human body is a beautiful creation, but I sure as hell don't have any interest in seeing you in the buff, or having anyone else's nudity shoved in my face against my will either. Facebook is providing a wonderful service to its members and advertisers by keeping it clean. There are more than enough other sites YOU can go to and share all the sex and nudity of yourself and others as you want. FB, thank you for giving me a clean place to go and connect with friends and family. I applaud you for your diligence and decency! Keep up the great work!

It always amazes me how these cool, unconventional jobs are held by only white people. There is never any ethnical diversity in these positions. Just like all these cool reality TV shows the staff are usually white; perhaps once in a while you get a token in there. Obviously facebook was creator Mark Zuckerberg is white ??? but being Jewish you would think his staff would be more diverse.

after reading this article I decided to post this. I was doing one of those silly "quizzes" they have on FB, it was what body part are you, & the answer was "Vagina"!! I almost fell off my chair!! That wasn't all though!! Right in my face on the screen is a picture, of a real woman, with her legs spread, showing her vagina!!!! and with her hand down on top of herself. I COULD NOT believe what I was seeing! If there was a "report this" box there, I didn't see it, although I got out of there so fast I may have missed it. I don't knnow how to contact the Porn Patrol so hopefully they will see this & follow up. If a child, or young boy, inadvertantly got this, it would be awful & perhaps start something no one intended. P.S. I am a 60 year old woman, a child of the 60's, so it's not like I am an elderly person who knows nothing, but I do not appreciate having a picture like this pop up when I didn't expect it.
