WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? First you write about Kirk and Spock having sex- yeah, like thats going to happen since Vulcans only come into heat once every 7 years- even then, they're mentally bonded with their mates.

Then you write up a bogus article about "moral relavence"? HELLO- ITS A PREQUEL BEFORE THEY GET INTO THE ACADEMY AND ARE TRAINED TO BE OFFICERS- RIGHT NOW THEY'RE JUST TEENAGERS.

Dude, you're reaching- give it a rest.

Comparing a movie to a series doesn't make sense. There's many more hours of screen time to choose from in the series - and it's easy to pick out high points. Star Trek may have had many important messages delivered in its episodes, but let's not forget that for every "Amok Time" there's a "Spectre of the Gun" or "Lights of Zetar". Not every episode was so high and mighty on the philosophy. Sometimes it's just TV, folks.

Also, I think Marc misses the point when he says the "women of the Enterprise wore miniskirts and go-go boots; Kirk was always sleeping with conspicuously attractive female aliens; and the show's main heroes???Kirk, Spock and McCoy???were all white men." In Kirk's time, wearing mini-skirts and gogo boots is no big deal, sleeping with women is a good thing, and no one notices skin color except journalists (Spock, by the way, had green skin).

Did Marc Bain write this article after only hearing about the original series? Does he not know about Balance of Terror? Errand of Mercy? And the episode he cites from TNG - The Borg are not a race - they are collections of various races that have been altered. So it is not much of a lesson to see the monster as something else when it starts to revert to its former self. It no longer was Borg.

Of course, look at the suffering caused by seeing the monster as something other than what it was. Mr. Bain should watch more Trek if he's going to talk about lessons. And from what he says above, it seems he hasn't yet seen "First Contact." Captain Ahab just had to hunt his whale. LOL.

You make the claim that Kirk was always sleeping with aliens. Your claim is typical of a journalist: it is cavalier, false, and tossed in simply to support your general argument. Also, how is having sex with alien women the "vice" you claim it to be? Even according to the puritanical ethics of our day, Kirk would have been at fault for having sex with a crew member; however, an affair with an alien woman would have been outside the workplace. So, again, why would that be a "vice." How about a little more thinking and a little less drivel?
