The last time a US president pushed hard for an Israeli-Palestinian solution was when Clinton cornered Barak and Arafat into committing for true peace. It sonds to my like having to choice between getting killed with a gun or with a rifle. Both choice will lead to the end of Israel. I personally agree with Netanyahu. There can't be a stable Midle East with terrorist organization baked by a nuclear power. Israel is a nuclear power and I think that leaving it without a real choice could have serious consequences.
