Sports is unpredictable sometimes. But that is what it makes fun to watch for. However, not just the game that is interesting about sports but also the controversies behind these athletes. Manny Ramirez seems to have controversy follow him wherever he goes. He angered and alienated fans in Boston (despite helping them to World Series titles in 2004 and 2007) and was traded in 2008 to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Well, now he'll be sitting out for a third of a season, as he has tested positive for performance enhancing drugs, netting a 50 game suspension. He won't need payday loans, but he's the latest addition to a list of big names in Major League Baseball to take steroids. Oddly enough, the kind he took is used to treat female infertility. His agent had no comment, but many would get out credit cards to see Manny Ramirez suspended indefinitely.

So what you're saying is that it's okay if "everybody does it"? Your attitude is a prime reason why there's such a tremendous amount of cheating in our society. You need to get over the idea that deceit and dishonesty are okay as long as they're done in numbers. They aren't, no matter how many people engage in them.

The sad part is, the last sentence of the article says it all. The "win at any costs" attitude -- shared by fans, players, and ownership alike -- means that shortcuts, cheating, and boorish behavior will be tolerated (or, at the very least, forgiven), provided it results in a championship. It is up to us -- the fans -- to draw a line in the sand and say "enough!" Without us, there are no players or owner. Bill Simmons' SI article is a good road map for the rest of us, as he begins the process of disowning members of the team that brought his Red Sox that long-sought championship.

I do not believe every thing I read, as a matter of fact most of what is written on the Internet by those trying to make money selling books or stories are just plain lies or misinformed or slanted stories, or opinions that mean nothing.

I was hoping for a Manny bashing from a Bosox diehard. Alas, you took the easy rout and stayed true to your roots. Go read Bill Simmons at SI. It aint pretty, but at least he's beginning to understand, "People in glass houses ...
