Ask the Kurds in Karbalah if Saddam had chemical weapons. The Iraqi gov't was Sunni, Al-Qaeda is Sunni. We had been at war w/ Iraq within the last 8 years, Al Qaeda had just managed to kill more Americans than the entire first Gulf War... is anyone surprised that the US government didn't triple check their sources while looking for the appropriate response after 9/11? Now, 8 years later, we might know that Al Qaeda despised the Iraqi regime as corrupt, but in 2001 our intelligence was ***. Iraq was actively playing up the weapons of mass destruction propaganda because they thought Iran was bigger threat than the US. Hindsight is 20/20. And criticizing decisions after the fact is hypocritical.
It's funny how the world's media is preoccuppied with criticizing US/Nato policy, but there is very little disection of Militant Islam's blatant hypocrisy. They justify their hatred of the West with the Palestinian (Shiite) cause, then set off car bombs in Shiite neighborhoods in Iraq. The US gets criticized for the mess at Gitmo and we're expected to be contrite in the face of international complaints- and rightly so. Mention the dragging of US Soldiers thru Mogadishu or the bodies of contractors hanging from bridges in Iraq and watch the PRIDE that the enemy displays. The biggest problem NATO has is their attention to public opinion. Win the battle on the ground, then let the politicians do whatever they want after the fact.
And to "Vigilance", who said "I'm through being moderate on this, like I said. You and the other proxy torturers and callous "clash of civilization" types who think Middle Easterners aren't actually people can go straight to hell, and take your terrified "kill them before they kill us!" pleas with you." What part of your statement involves Vigilance? You sound like someone who doesn't want to try anymore, giving in, wussing out. Nobody said Middle Easterners aren't actually people. Nazis were people, too. BAD PEOPLE. Grow a pair or change your name.
