Gulen Movement followers operate over 90 public, charter schools in 20 US states. You can research the names of the administrators and some teachers at these schools and in almost every case find direct ties to Gulen organizations and his educational institutions in Turkey. His brand of education in Turkey brought about the rise of AKP and he is trying to expand his network here in the US to do the same. I urge everyone, including the US government, to start looking into this group and its members and wake up to the fact that these people are not who they say they are. As Gulen said himself, "with the patience of a spider, we lay our web to wait for people to get caught in the web; and we teach those who do. We don't lay the web to eat or consume them but to show them the way to their resurrection, to blow life into their dead bodies and souls, to give them a life." Sorry, but I am doing just fine.

Turkey has its own policy to protect its security , i do not think that arresting people for ligal reasons as an opperssive , at the same time i am sure there is and will be mistakes in the AKP policy because they run uneasy country which suffered for several years from corruption and mischifing government, the progressive in turkey is well known for everyone across the world. i think there is one of most important issue if AKP could solve it , it will be great for turkish stablity and development which is the Kurds issue , that issue needs more efforts from AKP to prevent the conflict and make end for bloodshide .

Fettullah Gulen never finished the high school
Fettullah Gulen hates democracy and modern republicanism (he never wears tie beacuse its a sybol for republicanism)
Fettullah Gulen hates MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATURK (founder and leader of the REPUBLIC OF TURKEY)
Fettullah Gulen hates the Turkish Army, so he created Fetokulli a.k.a Ergenekon against it.
Fettullah Gulen hates the Turkish Army beacuse The Turkish army protects secularistic system.
Fettullah Gulen is a ismalic terrorist who wanted to destroy REPUBLIC OF TURKEY and secularistic sysyem.
Fettullah Gulen was trying to take over REPUBLIC OF TURKEY by asking his followers to "move in the arteries of the system without anyone noticing your existence until you reach all the power centers.
Same fallowers who are getting getting paid to write all those comments here are so unhappy today because of this article.

Dear brain washed fallowers the youtube video is real pls listen to your imam feto carefully and see why he escaped from REPUBLIC OF TURKEY

Fettulah Gulen and his tarikat does not want other people to watch this video so they made up a story about ATATURK and blocked the youtube.

Fettulah Gulen he was indicted in absentia for attempting to change Turkey's system of government and for "forming an terrorist organization with the purpose of establishing an Islamist state." It was from there that he built his international ultra radical-Islamist community a.k.a Gulen Movement.

Before the Turkish courts judgement Fettulah Gulen escped to the United States in 1998.
Fettullah Gulen is old poor man with no country.

      Dear Hurturk
I viewed the Youtube clip you posted but wanted to know if there is another version of this clip with English subtitles anywhere? Also, could you or anyone else tell me it this clip covers 'Fettullah Gulen actually saying 'move in the arteries of the system without anyone noticing your existence until you reach all the power centers." etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
      Kind regards,

I have had ample experience with those who have a connection with Fethullah Gulen here in Australia. I have personally found them utterly deceptive to say the least! They have wonderful sounding organizational names but they lie repeatedly to gain favor. After researching this guy 'Gethullah Gulen' I can say this about those who are inspired by him; 'like father, like son' all is 'smoke and mirrors'!
    Kind regards,
    Terry.

I just returned from three weeks in Turkey as part of my work for Generation Connect -and I found it to be a very beautiful and interesting country. While traveling I read the Newsweek article and was about to quote it on my blog, Thoughts... at www.earth2parents.com,, when I found these comments regarding the article. I will continue to write about the people of Turkey who welcomed me into their homes and into their lives and my impressions, especially of what I believe to be the seeds of change in the young, religious Turkish women. These are my impressions, not necessarily the truth.I am still in the process of writing and they won't be posted until 6/9.09. I welcome comments to continue the conversation about women and education and to learn more about this warm and welcoming country. Thank you to all of my new friends!

Based on some of the comments below, the Newsweek editors, can expect a full blown email assault following this article. Alas, the disciples got Gulen just recently got him elected to be one of the most influential "intellectuals" in the world in a write-in campaign for some European publication.

I wonder where this great intellectual has been lately published except by his self-owned publishing houses, which churn out books and dvd's that his adhererents have quotas to buy or sell to others... when was the last time his pearls of wisdom were quoted in any other academic forum or publication, other than those his movement funds? There's no doubt that the movement deserves a lot of academic interest from sociology to political science departments on the basis of Islamic "tarikats" influence in politics.

However, one would most benefit from a study by psychology departments focusing on how the Gulen movement funded "early childhood education" (aka brainwashing of youngsters starting at the age of 7 in so-called "Light Houses" removed 9 months of the year from their families, raised by "brothers and sisters") changes individuals into life-time disciples, willing to marry, name their children, take up profession and a travel around the world based on the instructions by the Movement.

This is an Islamic cult with the greatest political ambition and plan of any one that ever existed. More incidious is that by now a thick web of Turks and non-Turks alike around the world are tied to it as salaried professionals, paid consultants, small business credits, grants, scholarships etc etc who will fight anyone with the most vicious lies and slanders before they will go down.

Islamophobia is equal to anti-semitism. I guess you are a Jewish Lady and if it's so I wonder how can an anti-islamic Jewish ask non Jewish to fight against to anti-semitism ? Would this be logical and moral ?

    • Posted By: The Gulen Truth @ 05/26/2009 1:13:46 PM

You have hit the nail on the head! Those same followers that voted Gulen most the influential intellectual are reading Gulen's Today's Zaman where there an article about this Newsweek article. They are now logging onto Newsweek and discrediting this article. Gulen looks influential, but if you look close it is just his band of followers singing his praises.

I read Mr. Yilmaz's article as well. We have a saying in Turkish: "doesnt the thief have any guilt at all ?". That is the expression Hodja said to his neighbors when they blamed him for not taking the necassary measures to protect his house from a robbery.
As far as I can see Mr. Yilmaz is quite biased about Mr. Cagaptay just because Cagaptay writes against this "witch hunt" - I wonder what one might say about this travesty of justice and implementation of a police state. But anyway, Mr. Yilmaz speaks like he is the spokesperson of AKParty playing with the numbers, ignoring the human rights violations.
There really could be some people having plotted a coup among all these people arrested. But what about the rest ? What about human rights ? In order to sound more reliable, at least Fetullah writers should also mention those senior academics and intellectuals who have been put away for months without even knowing what they are accused of. That is why they can not write for any international magazine and that is why they can only write for Fetullah papers. Strict obedience is their motto. You can never say a bad thing against Fethullah.

Why Fettullah Gulen is not coming back to Turkey?

      • Posted By: benbutka @ 05/21/2009 5:25:59 PM

At first he did not escape to USA!

Second: Can it be because his name was in the "to-do-list"/"shopping list" (list of the people to be killed) together with Armenian journalist Hrant Dink (whacked), socialist Journalist Ugur Mumcu (whacked), leader of the Armenian Orthodox church (saved the last moment), Orhan Pamuk (saved) and many others.

Let me ask you a question Vural: Why did Orhan Pamuk leave Turkey?

Orhan Pamuk is a turkish writer who won Nobel Prize in literature and his name was on the list of Ergenokon members to be killed so that turkey would be pushed into chaos and so preparing for a coup. Coups are not done in a sunny day! You need chaos!

What about my question: Was it worth killing the three christian missionaries in Malatya?

Fethullah Gulen and AKP hates democracy!!!!! They support support SHARIA.
Fethullah Gulen schools promote support SHARIA LAW (see Fethullah Gulen&Taliban love in Afganistan)
Also see Recep Tayyip Erdogan Taliban love in the picture below
    http://www.alevi.dk/images/Taliban%20Tayyip%20erdogan%20fetullah%20gulen.jpg

In 1994 Recep Tayyip Erdogan said; We support SHARI LAW. There is no room for Ataturk and Kemalism in Turkey!!!

The AKP is founded by a group that drew lessons from the closure of earlier Islamic parties' and uses democracy to reach its goal, which is installing Shariah in Turkey!!!

Political Islam in Turkey is not limited to the will to regulate relations between the individual and God. Political Islam's basic tent is the Shariah, with its acceptance of its rules as the will of God.
That is why political Islam and its constitution, SHARIAH, is not democratic, but totalitarian.
The Shariah (religious war) system includes, without doubt, Jihad as its final point. A democratic system may be eliminated by democratic means, or it may be removed by anti democratic means as well,

    In 1994 Recep Tayyip Erdogan (AKP leader) publicly declaring;
Praise be to God, we support SHARI LAW. There is no room for Ataturk and Kemalism in Turkey's future"

  • Posted By: oguzatasay @ 05/26/2009 3:21:27 PM

There???s no doubt that Soner Cagaptay is smart enough to pick the magic words to distort the truth; ???McCarthyism??? and the ???Witch Hunt???. But he is not candid enough to confess whether he is consistent with his extremely biased claims or not. The correct metaphors should be ???Stay-Behind Armies???, ???Turkish Gladio??? and the ???Deep State???. In 1990, Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti confirmed that a secret army, called Gladio, had existed in Italy since 1958. Indeed, he admitted that a network of secret 'stay-behind' armies had been set up all throughout the NATO countries. Gladio was only a part of a huge clandestine organization and the threat was involved far more than Italy. Austria's unit was named ???Schwert???. In Greece, it was ???Sheepskin???. Sweden's was ???Sveaborg???. France's was ???Glaive???. In Turkey, as we know; Ergenekon. This year in Turkey hundreds of different type of explosives have been found. Grenades, anti-tank weapons, demolition blocks, telescopic rifles, smoke bombs and shot-guns. The biggest arsenal was the underground one on the land owned by the ??stek Foundation, set up by a fugitive suspect in the Ergenekon investigation, former ??stanbul Mayor Bedrettin Dalan. The items included 2,000 bullets, five booby traps, 10 hand grenades, 13 fog bombs, 11 light anti-tank weapons, 23 emergency flares and a number of 50-millimeter bomb fuses. Apart from that, 88 hand grenades, 15 kilograms of explosives, two shoulder-held missile launchers, dozens of guns and revolvers, hundreds of bullets, as well as mines and explosive devices, have been found in five different locations. By the late 1990s, with the PKK in retreat on the battlefield, the always diffuse agglomeration of covert groups began to fragment further. Some of the groups turned full-time to criminal activities such as extortion and narcotics trafficking. Although some remained in touch with members of the security apparatus, With all these information and the 5,000 pages of indictments open to public, it must not be so easy to label the process as a witch-hunt. Besides, to portrait the suspects of the Ergenekon case as the ???liberal elite of Turkey??? is more than ironic. The Ergenekon suspects, had always emphasized that, they were ???Ultra-Nationalists??? and never forgot to convey their hatred to the liberal thinkers, writers and journalists. When, Hrant Dink, the Turkish-Armenian journalist, was assassinated in 2007, they were the ones who criticized the well-intentioned reactions of the Turkish society against the crime. In addition, some of the arrested members of the gang had outspokenly declared that some more ???liberal betrayers??? who support the EU accession and the cooperation with US should go to the same hell with Hrant Dink. Indeed a black-list of the Ergenekon gang, composed of the most famous liberals of the country, such as Orhan Pamuk and Fehmi Koru, has been captured during the investigations.

    To the brainwashed Fettullah Gulen Terror Organization supporters;

1- Why Recep Tyyip Erdogan is in love with Arap terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah?
2- Turkey has over 85,000 active mosques, one for every 350 citizens???compared to one hospital for every 60,000 citizens the highest number per capita in the world and, with 90,000 imams, more imams than doctors or teachers. Why?
3-Why Fettullah Gulen media supports the government?
4-Fettulah Gulen is against Atatürk and his reforms. Why?
5-Fettullah Gulen is against the secular repuclic. Why?
6-Fettullah Gulen terror organization controls more than $ 50 billion. Where the money is coming from?
7-Fettullah Gulen terror organization donates seminaries, universities including Gergetown University, Hartford Seminary ($ 2 million). Why not Turkish universities?
8-Why Fettullah Gulen is in love with most dangerous terror group Taliban in Afganistan?
9- Why Fettulah Gulen is openig schools with Taliban in Afganistan? To raise more terrorists?
10- Why Tayyip Erdogan is in love with TALIBAN?
11- Why Recep Tayyip Erdogan kneeled front of the TALIBAN leader?
    watch the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6dmgJz_2Tk
12 Why AKP is blocking youtube in Turkey?
13- Why Russia has banned all of Gulen's madrassas, and in April of this year, banned the Nurcu Movement completely.
    14- Why AKP supports Hamas?

and again the new modern, secular, Western republic.

      To baskan
It seems that you are confused and you called the Fettullan Gulen movement a terrorist organization..shame on you..shame on you..Just name ONE violent thing that is associated with this movement..You can not..Because there is none. How dare you label the people (hundreds of thousand or millions) who support this movement a terrorist. Their only purpose is to open dialoque with one another which the world needs.
      1) I do not know you gotto ask recep Tayyip Erdogan this question but I think communication is better than no communication. And the people in the Palestine told all the world that we got to communicate with Hamas since they elected them.
      2) The turkish Government does not built any mosques the geneorous people does. I guess people feel more releived building mosgues than hospitals.
      3) Zaman and STV does not support the government but they take the sides of the rights. As you well know the opposition leader has said he is the lawyer of the Ergenekon trial. It is obvious that Zaman and STV can not support that.
      4) What makes you say that?over hundreds of books and thousands of articles I have read I have not come across a sentence that is supporting your claim
      5) again what makes you say that? It seems you have not even read one book or article written by Fettullah Gulen. And Ironically you came to this conclusion. You cannot judge a book by its cover...
      6) How did you come up with this number?..I mean why not $100 biilion or $25 billion
7)I think you have missed the point. The movement opens universities and schoolls in 150 different countries including Turkey
      8) What makes you say that????
9)Yes correct the movement is opening schools in Afganistan. But can it be because we want to educate the uneducated? So that even you biased minds can communicate with them
      10) You have to ask Recep Tayyip Erdogan that question
      11) Again ask the prime minister
12)No party can block youtube in Turkey. Eventhough I think it is nonsense the The Turkish courts banned the youtube because there were videos insullting Ataturk
13)Your questions reflects your personality..It seems you read Cumhuriyet newspaper (ultra leftist)alot. Do not beleive everything you read there because those schools in Russia are still active
      14) you got to ask that question to AKP

      • Posted By: The Gulen Truth @ 05/26/2009 2:32:55 PM

Why do you promote the opening of schools in so many countries but never provide a list of what countries and what schools? Is it because you will be found to be illegally operating sectarian schools in the United States funded by federal and state tax dollars?

      • Posted By: MustafaKemal2009 @ 05/26/2009 10:49:05 AM

        To our pro-Fetullah friend,
All your theory has been based on myth, contradictions and hearsay. All this can easily be refuted if only we have a youth who can think rationally on a scientific basis. Your sect leader knows this well, That is why they hate Ataturk or Saylan. They tried to enlighten and empower people. You never want that. So you put blind-faith into minds of young people to exploit them, to drug them so that they will not question anything about the billions of dollars Gulen sect has. Your solidarity, favourism that somehow gets you all the state tenders. Your incredible network and fortune.
Unfortunately, that is just what we have in Turkey now. That is ok , enjoy your time !.. I have just one question for you.
Your cult leader believes a world ruled by Islamic Law. That is fine by me..There are hundred of religions, thousands of cult. He has chosen one. So what?? But but buttt why does he choose to live in USA for God's sake while there are plenty of countries ruled by Islamic Law in the world ? Why, tell me why? Why does he enjoy the blessings of a truly secular state wheras he guides millions into Medieval Darkness??? Oh, I can hear you say : "ask him".
Well my friend, ask yourself, even just once: ask yourself. Do you have any right to exploit all these people using religion, drugging them, and use them- abuse them while you yourselves are enjoying the blessings of a free secular state ?

The Gulen Movement purports itself to unwitting Americans as the voice of dialogue and interfaith tolerance. In reality they are anti-semitic and as democratic as the Scientologists. There's zero dissent in the movement, it's not a soft Islamic missionary movement but a rabid force out to grab poltiical power and overthrow the secular Turkish Republic.

Sadly, it's also supported by some forces in the US political establishment as an anti-dote to poltiical radical Islam. In fact it was even used by the Turkish establishment during hte cold war as a counterforce against the spread of communism.

The movement contols billions of dollars gained from college prep courses it established all around Turkey and from collecting "psalms" from unwitting Turks who see it as "spreading the word of Islam" around the world.

Whatever Dr.Cagaptays says in this article is absolutely true. Today, nearly 50,000 Turks gathered in Ankara in a lawful and peaceful demonstration against the witch hunt that he describes. Leading up to this peaceful demonstrations, the media outlets of the Gulen movement started a propaganda and intimidation campaign which would have Joseph Goebbels blush. They outright used intimidation FROM TV AND IN PRINT alleging that participants would be regarded as terrorist supporters, that police (guess whose police) will be PHOTOGRAPHING and FILMING the demonstrators for possible criminal investigations and that participants MAY BE VIOLATING the Turkish penal code, reading on prime time news the article of the penal code that they would supposedly violate. And where are the Western media watchdogs, EU commissioners and journalists to report about this misuse of media, reminiscent of a third world country dictator's media control? Nowhere.

In all my years of observing Turkish politics, I have never seen a more sinister interweaving or religion, police power, business interests, political power and corruption, media mind control...Mind you, this goes way beyond the ruling AKP party, although parts of the AKP political establishment shamelessly exploit the Gulen movements unsatiating appettite for power for votes and money and others are directly linked to it.

The Gulen movement's motto is: Deception abroad, Fear at Home. Time for everyone to wake up.

        As for Fetullah sect,
I remember a video "Jesus, he loves me" by a great rock band Genesis. That is exactly what this cult is all about. Give the religion, get the MONEY AND POWER !.. If you brainwash people with religion, you can get lots of sex, money and even suicide bombers who can die for you. And then you go to a free secular state and enjoy the blessings of the modern life.

Do not worry !.. This false prophet will come back to Turkey when he becomes a caliph or any title close to that. Didnt Khomeini do exactly the same thing ?? As long as there are low literacy, ignorance and medieval values in a country, history will repeat itself again and again..

In which country a student unable to finance his own studies can buy a cargo ship for nearly $3 million??

Recep Tayip Erdagon's son who had studied in the United States on a scholarship granted by a businessman (business linked to Fettulah Gulen Organization) suspiciously purchased a cargo ship for nearly $3 million.

How a student unable to finance his own studies was able to afford a vessel?

How Tayyip's son purchased a ship and became a ship owner while he was a student?

In which country thousands of students can be kick out of their medicine education becasue of their head scarf and religon when they are about the graduate and be licensed doctor.Yet your so loved Turkan Saylan support these unfair political practise. This so called "education angel" support the ban and never wanted to see peoples in university if they do not fit in her political and so called modern life style. She was simply a modern time SS Nazi leader who was after an Arian elitist race and streotyped generations.

What a big prejudice and unfair treatment against a person who dedicated her life to her people. She healed thousands in Anatolia after founding the Turkish Leprosy Relief Association. Thanks to her, again thousands of girls have been schooled instead of being sold to a man at the age of 12-13. Yes, she was against headscarf and she was against the medieval mentality that defines honour interms of women meat exposed in public. She has never been a lawmaker. And it is a shame that we still have to deal with the slanders put forward by ones like you instead of poverty and illeteracy.

Finally an accurate piece on what is really happening behind the disguise of the Ergenekon case. My next question the 70 K being tapped cannot possibly all be tapped because of Ergenekon. So what will be done with all the intelligence that is being collected? Mu guess is, it will be used against those who are tapped in years to come...
