The real intentions behind North Korea's nuclear test
Keep the pressure on NK and eventually fearless lesder will pass away. Then maybe we can work out the difficulties. NK is evil, that is where the monkeys from the wizard of oz are from.
China is the key to this whole thing. We are not handling this situation more aggressively because we don't want to upset China. Sure, Russia does not want us there either, but China is the one with all of the infuence over the North. China needs to be held accountable for the North's actions because it's the Chinese that ultimately allow this non-sense to take place. If the South were the ones causing all of the problems, then it would be the U.S.'s fault. We need to hold China accountable for the North.
DesertGeo: Well said! The one crystalline fact in all this fog is that the Chinese government is at the bottom of it. They have propped up their NK clients since 1950, when they sent their People's Liberation Army into North Korea as "volunteers" to help North Korea halt the UN offensive that was approaching the Yalu River. In the 60 years since, the Korean peninsula has soaked up billions of America???s tax dollars, tens of thousands of our troops, and continues to serve as yet another powerful reminder to the world that even an insignificant flyspeck like NK can buffalo the United States once we lose our will to deal forcefully with an issue. CHINA is the problem here, and OBAMA is not the man for the job. Hillary can fly to China and flap her wings all she wants, but this situation is proceeding exactly the way the Chinese want it to.
Isolationism has not worked in NK nor Cuba for 50 years now. Their requests seem quite reasonable -- let's open up the commerce and let information and capitalism do their magic. Once plugged into and dependent upon the world economic grid these dictator situations always self-correct.
I thought we were scheduling tea and making "friends" now with our new Aministration. Say it aint so, Joe! There was and is hartred toward the U.S. BEFORE George W. Bush. Well, slap my ass and call me Sally! dang. Doll, you will need a President with a big set of stones to get global affairs in order before we all end up nuked.
Memo to Still Free in the USA: No, you're not.
The solution to this is really quite simple. We just need to keep him in his box. We need to make it clear to Kim AND his people that ANY provacative act by North Korea against ANY nation in the region will be met with an overwhelming response by us. If they sink so much as one South Korean, US, or Japanese ship, they will loose their ENTIRE navy! If so much as ONE missile strikes ANYWHERE in the region we will flatten the launch complex and every other military base in the North. If they launch a nuclear attach on ANYONE, we will totally destroy the country with whatever weapon we choose to use. The only bad thing about nuking North Korea is that the fall out would drift towards Japan. Oh wait, I know, we air burst the warheads. That way there is minimal fallout. PROBLEM SOLVED!!
dm1964: Two problems with your idea. First, neither Kim nor the NK government care what happens to their people. None of them have anything more to lose. Their children are starving, their economy is unrecoverable and their infrastructure nonexistant. Nuking them would simply make the rubble bounce. Second, the administration now in power in Washington does not have the strength of will nor the intellectual capacity to wage a war. Obama's entire administration is devoted to capitulation rather than confrontation. Our so-called "allies" in the region are the SK's, who have no more will to fight a war than we do, and the Japanese, who are so afraid of their own past that they will refuse to even consider a fight. The Chinese are more interested in seeing the United States fall than in seeing the NK's succeed, and the Russians hate us so much for the defeat of the Soviet Union that they will do anything to help NK. The only way any such war could be won would be if we did it ourselves, and we have lost the guts to do so.
Hey 'Still Free in the USA"---
The National Anthem is the "Star Spangled Banner" not "The Battle Hymn of the Republic".
Republican IDIOT.
I'm not a Republican or Democrat, but I think you're all morons.
Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists,Marxists and Obama supporters, et al: We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce.
I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.
Here is a model separation agreement: Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.
You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them). We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.
You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood. You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.
You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are u nder assault, we'll help provide them
security. We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U. N.. but we will no longer be paying the bill.
We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find. You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.
We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.
We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot.
Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.
I'll bet you ANY WAR which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.
I concur Still Free in the USA!! Give the liberals Los Angeles and New York City and we'll take the rest.
My boss has a great line that I???ve often repeated and just love: We all live in our own heads.
But with respect to my boss, it just seems in Washington, their heads are lodged in a very dark place ??? no need to be graphic, but time to get real.
Because what else could explain a nation's capital that totally ignores the revolution unfolding in California???s capital? Where they're cutting spending like crazy after voters in that state went crazy and told them to stop spending, stop taxing, stop playing the same old games.
But looking around in Washington, nothing's stopped. Not the taxing, or the spending, or the ignoring, or the thinking, "We know better than our clueless subjects know."
So they merrily go on thinking in their heads that they're doing just fine. Clinging to election results from half a year ago. And insisting they've got a mandate ??? totally ignoring election results in California half a week ago and forgetting what they've got now is a manhole... and they're sinking into it.
It's one thing to be half-baked. But another to push spending that's proven half-ass.
But you wouldn't know that, would you, Washington? Your big head just doesn't fathom half-ass. No wonder. It's not that your head can't see it. The darn thing's just wedged too far up it.
For eight years the press bemoaned the emptiness of the full glass, and now they are praising the fullness of the empty glass.
Makes you wonder what???s going to happen when the recession really ends, and the first report showing an increase of even one job is released.
They???ll probably throw Obama a parade which certainly won???t be inconvenienced by inclement weather for rain isn???t allowed to fall till after sundown now.
In anticipation of this event, comedienne Wanda Sykes has already been booked as the Mistress of Ceremonies.
If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had given Tony Blair a set of inexpensive and useless (to Tony Blair's UK video formatting) DVDs, when Tony Blair had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?
If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current on their income taxes, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?
So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive?
Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 10 weeks -- so you'll have three years and nine-and-a-half months to come up with an answer.
Screaming; dude, we have no enemies..we just need to blindly follow BO in our hands across the water. Fidel and Raul responded so well to that, huh? Now yet another "mess" created by this inept President that our troops will suffer for. He just does not have the lifes experience to "get" foreigh affairs. In a related story:
BREAKING NEWS: New Haven, Connecticut. May 28, 2009
Four old white guys and an albino frog perished in an apartment fire late yesterday evening. It appears the fire broke out due to an unattended crack pipe. New Haven first responders; Ladder 6, reached the apartment building within 6 minutes of the 911 call. However, it was determined that the 5 firefighters of Ladder 6 unit did not meet the Affirmative Action quotas of the city of New Haven and that even though Ladder 6 did have two women in the unit; those first on the scene could not reach a ???best conclusion??? on how to deal with the blaze because they did not possess the wisdom or richness of experiences and had not lived life.
Al Sharpton immediately called for a more politically correct team to extinguish the blaze. Meanwhile, protester Fawn Rosenberg, acknowledged that the occupants were crack addicts and deserved the full benefit of drug treatment and intervention. Inpatient treatment had been denied the old white guys because their recent urine tests were flawed.
BO created the North Korean problem? Ok, yeah, that's a fair criticism. Doesn't have the "life's" experience to "get" foreign affairs, even though he's lived overseas (Bush hadn't even been to Europe before he was prez), taught law at Columbia University, been editor of the Harvard Law Review, a state senator, then a U.S. senator. What did his predecessor do before becoming governor? Hmmm something tells me that you are determined to find fault w/ our president no matter what he does.
I have to disagree with desertgeo...it is not the chinese's responsibility nor their place to influence other country's policy...if you look at China's past, they have never been influencing any countries policies nor do they think they should at all...unlike the US, we try to put our hands in everything in the name of national security and interest...China sure is also a communist country, but their policies is never the same as the North Koreans, and I believe that no country would like to have their neighbors armed with nuclear weapons, not us not them either...the North Koreans continuous threats to the world is only based on one thing and one thing alone, for US and the UN to cave in, by giving them food and money.
I guess all those Chinese weapons that found their way to North Vietnam a few decades ago were just the Chinese way of saying "Hey, good neighbor! Whassup!" You are either living in a fool's paradise, or are foolish yourself. The Chinese aspire to becoming the world's ONLY super-power and will let nothing stand in their way, including the United States.
look at the poor pathetic "leader". Ha! This dumb-a** country needs a good spanking. The group that is coming into power will simply swat their leader aside. They want, and will get, the lower half back.
Uday think you jealous of Kim glorious hairdo.
Uday in fact I am jealous of Kim's Magnificent hairdo!!
The important thing here is to never forget that neither China nor Russia are America's friends, and their acquience in any form of definitive sanctions against North Korea will be based solely on what they perceive as their own best interests. if the possibility of damage to the United States also exists, so much the better. I doubt North Korea will use nuclear weapons against the U.S. and its allies directly, but it will not hesitate to assist our more agressive enemies in their own nuclear ambitions. A North Korean nuke finding its way to Iran and then to Tel Aviv is the true nightmare here.
Virtually all the food, raw materials, technology and commercial goods supplied to North Korea are provided by China. China is the primary enabler of the North Korean military and North Korean nuclear policy. To suggest that China has nothing to do with North Korea's policy is laughable. If North Korea attacks any of its neighbors ... it will be China who enabled this. If North Korea gives nuclear warheads to terrorists, ... it will be China who enabled this as well.
great point desertgeo
China is the key to this whole thing. The only reason we are not more aggressively handling this situation is because we can't upset China. Russia wouldn't want us there either, but they have much less influence than the Chinese. China should be held accountable for N. Korea's actions because they are the ones that protect them. If the South were the one's acting like this, it would be the U.S.'s fault. So let make China accountable.
Time for the Obama to "put the hurt on North Korea" and quit talking. OR - Is the Obama administration "soft" ??
.........As a marshmellow!
Soft!!!! give me a break. We are talking NUCLEAR here not a foot war
I think that we are playing the smart card here. We have S.K. Russa and China all watching and attempting the same things that the US is. Do you really think that it is wise to strike now and risk being turned on by everyone? After all, lets be honest here, our military is spread so thin now as it is...If we entered into yet another war don't you want S.K. Russa and China assisting us?
Russa and China don't want a more nuclear Korea, but they are willing to trade that for any thing that causes the U.S. political or economic woes. Our problem is less about Kim and more about us having to clean up China and Russa's back yard. A way to force China and Russa to cooperate is for us to get out and let Japan threaten to rebuild their military
I just reread both comments and since they are only one sentence(actually less than 1 complete sentence) it would be hard to miss the word nuclear. We have been and still remain at war with n.korea, I for one consider repeated threats and challanges to accepted non-proliferation rules a further act of war that does not require a nuclear response but, say 5-10 MOAB's dropped on each of the many palaces of lil' kim a reasonable response. If he is nuts enough to apply nuclear, than that means that many less that we have to pay to disarm in the future!
Is why everyone so mad at Uncle Kim? Is only have good time. Is have style, too. Is sexy bastard haircut, is dress like how you say "pimp".
its all about the glasses for me, i just got hot and bothered when i see that round faced comb over and glasses combo.
Is steal sexy glasses from Jackie Onassis, yes?
We continue to miss the obvious.
We need to arrange for the death of the dear leader at first opportunity.
Find a proxy who wants power within his circle, kill him and move our man into power.
Then in a few years we kill the new one.
During this period we begin a revolutionary movement we then support that wants to reunite the continent under democratic ideals.
Assassination is preferable to nuclear war, and FAR more cost effective.
I totally agree that all affairs of state should be looked at in terms of economic return and expense and would love to "lead" our seemingly unavoidable "nation building" with assasination, but I am afraid that most of the country including all of the present administration is not on board.
