Democracy is a virtue; however, we must remember that it is not the only virtue. Democracy without checks and balances, without separation of powers, and without the rule of law is democratic authoritarianism. While we must respect Cuban sovereignty, there are steps they must take before free and fair elections can take place without descending into majoritarian tyranny: economic openness, the establishment of constitutionality and an independent judiciary, for example. By setting up the guardrails before getting on the road, we can protect against the likelihood of a future democratic Cuba driving itself into a ditch.

I love how New World Order democrats believe in democracy..but only for New World Order democrats!!! Cuba has made a choice..right or wrong...this choice must be respected. Is a one party state worse then a country that ignores the wishes of a people??? Like say Puerto Rico in 1912 when they rejected ownership by the USA!!..Or the theft of Panama from Columbia by a 19th century CIA??? The OAS needs to be a big tent..not just a convient one for Uncle Sam's agenda. This vote was a great step forward..for TRUE Democracy....not Red or Red White & Blue...talk is preferable to war..I don't care what color ur flag is!!

Be kind, when the three major Western industries in Cuba were annexed by Castro (Sugar, Tobacco, and Mafia), some felt at loss, especially when the Mafia end was terminated (except the assasins).
It is hoped that the Mafia using children as sex-toys for wealthy vacationer's is not one of the good ole days they miss, but still you can see the trauma of losing a high paying job and ending up in a place like Florida.
