RWM: I haven't visited here for a while. However, I like this post. You may be surprised to know, I confront many in the church also. I am amazed at the fear and greed that resides in the church. In my reading of the Bible, I find much to be concerned about within my community. Religion is not a saving grace. Faith is. I daresay, you have lost or become frustrated with Religion, but your faith walk is growing. I believe the writers of the Bible spoke of God within their cultures and periods of History. To say every word of the Bible is inerrant truth is ignorance. You can call into question the numbers, the fact that the two stories of creation in Genesis don't add up, the different doctrinal views of even the early church writers. I grew up in a denomination that also figured their way was the right way. Denominations are filled with pride, (one of the sins God hates). The people in the churches, myself included, are sinners, hopefully saved by grace. However, and maybe I don't disagree with you based on this reading, I cannot escape the fact there is a God. Nature gives me no choice. I recently read about Elisha's meeting with the prophets after departing with Elija in II Kings 2:19-22. The water was bad and the land was unfruitful. Elisha filled a bowl with salt and threw it into the well & cleansed the water. I thought of the natural distillery our planet has. All the water eventually passes through the sea and comes again to water the earth, cleansed of it's impuritys. The verse says "all scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, instruction, and for training in righteousness." That does not say "is the infallible word of God" does it. There is definately a difference. I can learn about God through the Bible, perhaps in the Koran, the teachings of Buddha, the other holy books of the Jewish Faith etc. Strip it all down and you are left with the jist of what you just said. God is Love and man lives in separation. God desires to mend the rift. I grew up a Calvinist. I love a lot of things the man had to say. But seriously, the doctrine of the elect and the unelect has been in dispute since the day of it's conception. What's the point. No one knows. To get caught up in doctrinal beliefs is preposterous. It misses the point and smacks of pride. Thanks for sharing. I think we share a bond. LoG

Yes, thank you. I posted a comment (430 comments after yours) saying this same thing. Unfortunately, not only did the author miss the point, but the readers did, as well. I cannot believe how one little (poorly written) article could spark such a huge debate over God.

I do not believe that the author suitably argued the reason as to why Christian publications are shutting down their presses. I think the reason why so many Christian and secular magazines and newspapers are ceasing to exist is directly related to the internet. Who has time to sit down and read a magazine from cover to cover anymore? If I want to read the latest news, interesting articles, even look at advertisements (who wants to do that??) all of those things are at my fingertips--literally--at any time of day or night. It has been predicted that within a few short years, newspapers and magazines will be a thing of the past. Our great-grandchildren will be in awe at the fact news used to be printed on paper. What a waste! they will say. Why would you waste precious paper when you can read anything and everything you want online?? But the fact that Christian magazines are available in secular stores would not contribute to their demise. That just does not make any sense.
