I've shopped there, and just this week, Goodwill, where I've found new clothes with the tags still on! My husband clear more than enough that I don't have to shop there, but I pinch and buy canned goods and plants - can't beat $1 plants to put around the house!

Been shopping there for years; its not a green shoot; it is and always has been for smart "pirates" looking for treasures. I call it creative financing. Same with resale, Goodwill, St. Vincent Depaul and garage sales. My husband and I live within our means; shop there for many things; even with him out of work; living within our means and not needing blue ducks on our paper towel; allows us to have full bellies all paid for with out own dime instead of food stamps. KUDOS to a LONG time enttiy that has kept my family off the government trough

As the spouse of a long-time Dollar General employee, I can say with some conviction that there is no group of corporate leaders I'd less like to see succeed. DG is a worker mill - they pay lousy wages, have insane worker turnover, and expect their employees to work constantly and go the "extra mile" for the company with little or no return. When my spouse's store led their district in performance they were rewarded not with bonuses or raises but with a "wear jeans to work Friday." When they had trouble filling a managerial position in the district, my spouse was appointed on an interim basis with a promised pay hike. For two months the my spouse worked increased hours, handled the stress of keeping a troubled store in some order, and never did see the promised pay increase.

Don't get me wrong. My issues with DG have almost nothing to do with their products, although these days I don't find them that much more affordable than, say, Wal-Mart. I do, however, believe they are one of the worst companies in the nation in terms of employee relations. In my experience they treat their employees like expendable drones -- grist for the mill and nothing more. If KKR is doing well, the good times don't trickle down to the folks who do the grunt work.

Well, maybe it does. Perhaps they've added Hawaiian shirt Thursday to go along with jeans Friday.
