Violence among the elderly is on the rise in many nursing homes Paranoid delusions can become more pronounced with ageing. If he is not under medical supervision he is more likely to act on his hateful ideation.

Good thing OJ has remained such an upstanding citizen since he got away with murder, huh?

Mrs. Kelley, Very nice article..Thanks....I disagree with your assessment somewhat though, concerning the motivation of Mr. von Brunn. After reading "Federal Reserve Caper & Precedents" written by James von Brunn, I concluded that this act in the extreme twilight of his life, was motivated not so much by hate, but more out of frustration. I am sure you have read the fore mentioned piece so I will not elaborate on it.

The first thing that came to my head after reading that piece was babes and sages (I'll explain later). I feel that James von Brunn though dabbling, placed himself above the Neo Nazi crowd in his own mind; using their resources and connections to bring to light his main antagonist "The Federal Reserve". His attempt to perform a citizens arrest on the Federal Reserve Board armed, (with no bullets for his weapons), to me carried no more significant s or weight that any other non violent act of civil disobedience at that time or now. In his mind, this act was civil "enforcement" of existing law; to him a patriotic duty and COVERED BY EXISTING LAW. His ultimate goal however was exposure, as that he knew would be all he could reasonably obtain.

I highlight 'Covered By Existing Law" because it is important to my point...Civil disobedience for the most part is the realm of the young, the idealistic the babes of this world. The demand to want to be heard is strongest among this group, but usually does not involve existing laws, rather; the creation of new ones.

James von Brunn case was a bit different, he was trying to modify or have thrown out an "existing law" which he deemed unconstitutional. His method of civil disobedience as well (citizens arrest) is something that rarely if ever is used in what we would consider to be "traditional" civil disobedience techniques. I would note as well that he remained non violent throughout his life (as far as my research uncovered anyway).

I think James von Brunn considers himself a sage that is not being heard or respected. At 88 years of age with a full history to reflect upon behind him, he decided what the hell, I'm going to wake the babes up. He did not expect to survive in my opinion. The financial crisis gave him the perfect opportunity to bring his antagonist "The Federal Reserve" again to light.

I guess it has worked to some degree, I would have never have known about "Federal Reserve Caper & Precedents" if this incident had never occurred.

James von Brunn is most assuredly a racist, but in my opinion hate was not the motivating factor in this particular case.

    Moral:

Maybe we should listen to both babes "and" sages.

Of the three recent spectacular murders in the US, the media chose to focus on and sensationalize the two that provide a springboard to attack the two groups that suit their purpose - disturbed anti-abortion zealots and white extremists. All of the shooters were acting on their own free will and accord, but the media is making a concerted effort to ignite enough interest and some hysteria that they represent much larger groups that are threats to the country. The two soldiers who were gunned down in front a recruiting station by a black Muslim convert is not mentioned anymore and was generally dismissed in a day because of political correctness. We cannot identify Muslims as a potential threat in the US until they start leveling buidings.

I believe that the vast majority of white americans would love to do what von Brunn did. I have participated in a study that revealed many around the country feel this way.
Tampa Florida is a Nazi haven as is Pittsburgh, PA

Unbelievable but it is very true

Most of these people also listen to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and that loser crybaby glenn beck so I think it s safe to say that they do share some responsibility for the actions of these nuts.

I am not a racist and I hate having to say that white people are doing this but the numbers show that there is a growing threat and we have to look here in our own back yard and defeat it before our great country is destroyed

It would seem you read the title as Old, Armed White and Dangerous. Not a constructive point of view. The modern American family is leaving the elderly on the outs, no matter what race within American you are.

What study were you involved in. Aliens that came down and took you back to their planet? I' m sure they didn't find a thing. BTW, how old are you?

    • Posted By: 1Blackcitizen! @ 06/14/2009 4:39:14 PM

You are an idiot and you and you alone are responsible for the idiotic things you say here. No one can blame your TV viewing or radio listening or music choices. You may have been born an idiot or became an idiot over time. Remaining an idiot is your choice. Doing idiotic things is your choice. Idiot.

are you saying I'm an idiot

Anyone who thinks that old age makes you sweeter must be living in a fool's paradise. All younger women who have had to work around elderly women know that when women get old and ugly, it brings out the worst side of their nature. They just can't stand to have young women who are still producing pheromones around. Drives 'em nuts because they can't put out the scent anymore themselves. Old men get mean because their nuts have dried up and they can't kick ass anymore. We human love to talk about religion but sex is still our primary motivating force. When our glands dry up, it can bring out the very worst in us.

There exist an influential force for evil & wicked which happens to be strong.
However! There is another force that is superior, better, and stronger.

"Let the physical powers and spirit of true love reign and conquer all."

I highly recommend to anyone, to pay a vist to these three websites.

Well, then, if those sentenced should serve every last moment of their sentence, then all the cavilling about the care and cost of elderly, infirm inmates should cease, unless there is also the expectation that 80 and 90 year old inmates should function like 25 year old inmates....

von Brun is 88. Go back and read the news.

  • Posted By: hankvreeland @ 06/14/2009 10:46:31 PM

I applaud the article. It is an excellent endorsement of the death penalty which is sadly underutilized

  • Posted By: 1Blackcitizen! @ 06/14/2009 6:30:33 PM

In the Euthanasia-assisted suicide death camp, Ohio has decriminalized assisted suicide. Oregon allows physician assisted suicide. Virginia only imposes civil sanctipns. Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Washington St. have the Death with Dignity Acts. Maybe we should ease these old buggers into the next life if they're going to cause such a ruckus(sarcasm). We legalize killing babies before their birth, why not old codgers once they've outlived their worth.

  • Posted By: PaulSevere @ 06/13/2009 6:35:42 PM

You're saying that a vast MAJORITY of white people want to kill out of hatred for a race or religious group? Amazingly absurd. Anyone believing this must be seriously disturbed.

        • Posted By: whitesrtherealproblem @ 06/14/2009 11:59:49 AM

It is very racist of you to assume that I am African American. Which just proves my point.

By the way, I am White

What signal would we be sending? How about 'these people are tired, washed up, and irrelevant. We can't even be bothered to imprison them any more'. Which seems a fine message to send to any idiots who still idolize Manson. These people would not have committed their crimes on their own. I fail to see why we should be wasting tax payer dollars on their old age care. Give them parole and keep a close on eye on them. Of course, this would be the common sense approach. Perhaps the writer would rather waste our money on keeping these people locked up to service their paranoia. At any time, and especially in this economy, we have far better things to spend our money on.

The author introduces and maintains an implicit sterotype as the foundation of her story -- i.e., the ageist prejudice. If I recall, authors of this ilk once said "now we can no longer believe them n-----s (here euphemised as "elderly" rather than "old crackers") are anything but raping savages and breeder mothers on welfare." And Newseek published it! Haven't we gone beyond this nonsense? But maybe them "old crackers" are all alike.

Many of we older people are in excellent health and could commit crimes just as easily or moreso than when we were young. However, a great deterrant to such behavior should be the fact that prison life is unusually hard on elderly people because we need excellent food and food supplements, etc. to keep us healthy. These things are not usually available in prison. It can be hellishly painful to die of many of the diseases of aging and prison will guarantee such a death. We are also closer to heaven or hell, and the smart person will want to go to the former and avoid the latter when the time comes. That normally means a profound change of life purpose from selfish to unselfish and a corresponding change of lifestyle which, of course, does not include criminal behavior. These old criminals have not thought their end years and eternal consequences through carefully because they are intellectually lazy or not very bright.

Well, it is an interesting way to get free healthcare and retirement. Let the government put you in prison when you retire and you won't have to do any long-term saving or have Social Security or a 401K. I know that in Florida they have trouble with people coming down and they commit any sort of crime to get thrown in jail for the Winter - free room and board in a tropical climate!

Leave it to Newsweak to pick on the elderly now. What.....you run out of conservatives to attack?? Compare the number of crimes per capita of the young to those of the elderly. This article is just a biased piece trying to stir even more negatives toward the elderly. Hey...why don't you guys just get together and shoot all of those old folk??

    • Posted By: lbart612 @ 06/13/2009 1:20:35 PM

Picking on the elderly?? These people are murderers, their victims are still dead even though the murderers are now elderly. Life sentence should mean LIFE whether or not you are 60, 70, or 100 years old. A life sentence means that you will DIE IN PRISON. Don't weaken the law any further than it already ihas been. Some elderly people were mean in their 20's and they are still mean. Age does not make you nicer.

When speaking of older, armed, and dangerous, do the names Kim Jong-il, Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, the Mullahs of Iran, Hugo Chavez, or Fidel Castro come to mind? Who knows what people are capable of if they think the end is near?

  • Posted By: Angry old Man @ 06/13/2009 12:49:28 PM

I do not care if someone is 93 Life is life. If a 25 year old is sentenced to Life + 1 day and he lives to 100 he will (and should be still incarcerated)) stop the wimpy nonsense and use some common cense, I am 78 and I am no better than anyone else, regardless of my age. In fact at 78 I should know better than to hurt my fellow human beings.
