Good thing this happened in Italy and not the U.S. otherwise her rich mother would have flashed enough money around to help her get away with murder. This one is a little too obvious and I'm glad for once the authorities are sticking to the evidence and holding her accountable!

Really? In America, Bribery of government officials is illegal, as opposed to Italy, where I've been told it's a part of daily life.

So true. I am no fan of the American judicial system after what I have been researching in the past 2 years. In one study it was found that 68% of death row inmates had questionable legal proceedings during their trials, but I am in a court case in Spain and the corruption, nepotism, illegalities and stupidity of everyone (particularly the judge) has amazed me. And, I am not some naive 22 year old. I am 46, travelled around the world almost all of my life, several times with nothing more than a suitcase and "pocket change," seen an enormous amount of corruption and back-stabbing, lived amongst Spaniards for 20 years, and never in my life did I think that a judicial system could get away with so many illegalities.

And, excuse me where did you get the impression that this girls mother is rich. It is my understanding her parents have borrowed against everything they have to pay for their daughters defense.

People who assume her guilt on the basis of her behavior immediately following the murder have clearly never lost anyone close to them to murder. When my best friend was murdered I went back and forth between periods of intense crying (mostly privately in a bathroom) and periods of total shock in which I felt spacey, confused, and weirdly elated (from all the adrenaline). I also had very vivid flashbacks/dreams every night of the murder as my mind constantly tried to make sense of the questions how, why and who. I can only imagine if I had to face the additional trauma of a police interrogation. I'm not saying she's innocent, but people need to acknowledge the very normal and typical human reactions to violent tragedy and not judge her on these grounds.

Here, Here!!! Again and again. I have gone through a witch-hunt similar to Amanda Knox's within the Spanish judicial system, and believe me the corruption, nepotism, incompetence and plain stupidity, not to mention discrimination against Americans is so rampant in Southern European countries that their judicial systems are a huge joke. Remember how they tried to stick Madeleine McKay's mother with a murder wrap, and eventually ran the parents out of Portugal for not submissively "shutting up."

In my own case, the Spanish judicial system has embezzled apx. $1 million of my assets, handed over all of the family debt to me, illegally abducted my children and handed them over to their violent, psychopathic father and thrown me out onto the streets with nothing. All of this in retaliation for having filed a complaint against my ex-husband's continual threats to kill me if I ever left him. My ex is even in the process of initiating trumped up criminal proceedings against me in Spain so that if I ever step foot on Spanish soil I will be thrown in jail to rot; exactly as he has been promising to do for the past 2 years if I ever tried to leave him.

This is the reality of the Southern European judicial system.

And, the American government?!?! The US State Departments response to me has basically been, "If it is the custom in Spain to kill ones wife if she tries to leave him, then so be it!!! Let him kill you!!!!

The Obama administration is proposing asylum in the USA for foreign victims of domestic abuse living under oppressive, corrupt govts. and judicial systems, but for Americans living under oppressive govts. they basically hang them out ot dry!!!

Then, to add insult to injury they create a post (Melanne Verveer as Ambassador at Large on Global Womens Issues) which pretends to address violence against women issues around the world?!?! I have written a letter to this office asking what their policy is towards Americans living abroad and victims of domestic abuse, but to date have no response.

Oh get real. Look at her behavior before the murder. Being a fresh doe eyed piece of ass does not affirm her innocence.

I have to agree with lawschoolbound here in some ways. This girl showed extreme disrespect for the Italian justice system by turning cartwheels during her arrest. She didn't take it seriously until the charges came down on her. She is lying that they were abusive to her. She is misrepresenting her United States countrymen by acting like the spoiled egocentric brat she is and continuing to perjure herself. As an Italian American being of both middle American and Italian ancestry I believe this kid thinks she's clever enough to get by a foreign system out of sheer hubris. She thinks the laws of another country and her own don't apply to her. See she's special that way.

Wow another case of the cocky young beautiful Americans thinking hey it's my manifest destiny to do what I please and who the hell are these people to stop me. This is the major problem with America... there are those who think feel and believe they are entitled to do what they want with no adverse effects. What about the young woman who lost her life. You are only entitled to civil rights, rules and laws in the USA. If you leave and break the law in another country then you must abide by their laws and if that means being questioned without a lawyer then hey you chose to go there. I feel no sympathy at all for those involved just for those who are the unspoken victim. Those who cannot get a lawyer, a chance to tell their side of what happened because unlike this poor unfairly treated Knox woman the victim will never speak again...

If you have ever been hassled by the police even for simple stuff like a traffic ticket then you know how it is a pressure cooker, nervousness and anxiety etc..Now multiply that feeling a million times, you get the picture....acting quirky, not remembering, kissing her boyfriend for comfort. This has turned into an American Bashing Festival more then anything else. This is Italy's Simson Trial.., Homer Simspon that is....

Save This Innocent Young Woman. This innocent young woman and her boyfriend are being railroaded by publicity hungry police and prosecutors looking to enhance their careers. Miss. Knox, a very impressionable young person from a civilized background, was beaten by the police: physically and mentally brutalized. After telling her story to the police she was then required by them to fantasize a different scenario, "What could have happened?", which in the duress of the conditions the police subjected her to she complied with. Now they're using that against her to say she's given multiple and incriminating stories! Assuming you are from a similar decent background how would YOU react in such a situation. You would have no idea until you were there. If she had an attorney or anyone else there to advise her she never would have complied with such an outrageous demand. As in so many parts of the world the police there are simply thugs and the prosecutors are anxious to build their political status. As to the victim, she was a young inexperienced girl who let alcohol and possibly other drugs interfere with good judgment and invited into her shared home a deviant street parasite who lived off the goodwill of young college students in that university town. These are young people too filled with idealistic notions to identify trash for what it is lest they be considered "uncool". I've been there. Amanda Knox had the misfortune of being the person who shared accommodations with the Miss. Kercher. If Miss. Kercher had a steady boyfriend and Amanda Knox did not then Miss. Knox might have been the unfortunate victim that night and Miss. Kercher might be the innocent victim of circumstances with the usual ignorant hordes calling for her blood. (And how the media love to smear all this around in the most lurid terms!)

The dead young girl deserves our full respect and her family our sincere sympathy . She did nothing wrong to meet her untimely death in such cruel manner . Knox and her two men are victims of their stupidity and ignorance . I am sure the campus and the streets of Perugia will be safer now as long as they stay where they belong .they deserve more than that and I hope justice will be done and the criminal trio get the right punishment . My heart goes for the family of young Kercher

Please read the report more carefully. Amanda Knox said she was in the house when her roomate was murdered, and followed up with a written statement acknowledging the same thing. She has later attempted to distance herself from that statement, saying that the original statement was made under duress. She hasn't explained why she later made the written statement.

Her story of her whereabouts the night of the crime has changed several times.

    • Posted By: Boromir @ 06/13/2009 11:32:55 PM

That's not the case - the statement about being in the house at the time of the murder was made after an all-night interrogation in which she was beaten by the Italian police. If you look at the facts, the different statements are clearly explainable.

I have been following this in the British and Italian newspapers. They peg her guilty as sin.

  • Posted By: jimbo3800 @ 06/13/2009 5:41:22 PM

She is sooooo guilty. I hope the Italians hang her in the town square.

Is the law humane? Why not come to a dispassionate agreement about the case, and let it be? That way, people will be more careful, if they feel inclined to be. If an innocent can be found guilty, then what recourse do the criminals have? They must be very insecure with their doings. A life is a life. Whether it be the life of an innocent, or it be the life of a person who is otherwise. If it is so difficult finding the culprit, why not let the person go without a fuss? If the person is guilty, then she will consider why there was no fuss. To my earlier statement, a life is a life, whether it be the life of an innocent or the life of the guilty. If innocents can be hanged, for crimes they do not commit, then why does society not take note, when crimes are yet to be committed? If I do not feel bad, about a person who is guilty, when he is hanged, why should I feel bad, if an innocent is hanged?

Please read the report correctly. Amanda Knox said she was not in the house when her roomate was murdered.

This girl's roommate was being murdered while she herself was in the house and she did nothing to help. Unbelievable.
