"The most recent conspiracy of fools only worked because it made hundreds of millions of middle-class Americans feel as though they were among the same wealthy that Moore is preparing to crucify."

Your premise here is well presented, but wrong. Blaming "hundreds of millions of middle-class Americans" (reality check: there are only 300 million Americans in total) as greed-driven equal partners in the duplicity and thievery of our late, great financial meltdown ignores the responsibility the leadership of our society bears in being the main architects of the public good. Blaming people for seeking lower-interest loans they might not be able to afford in a slow economy has always been THE RISK of home ownership in America. The blame needs to be put on the leaders of the banks and mortgage lenders who knew what they were manipulating, often hoodwinked borrowers instead of spelling out the risks and pitfalls, and then kept passing it all on so other packagers could get their big juicy cuts. Our institutional leaders are in charge, and the blame for failure and immorality goes to them.

Moore needs to put on his favorite hat and walk west.... Until it floats. Maybe we could get Al to go with him.

He won't have to walk far, what with global warming and all.

Michael Moore wants to go after "the Wealthy?" Does that include HIMSELF???

    • Posted By: stevierae5 @ 07/29/2009 1:08:33 PM

I was wondering the same thing...

  • Posted By: stevierae5 @ 07/29/2009 1:06:35 PM

Michael Moore is not "burly," he is FAT. Ironic that he made a film about the problems with health insurance in America when people with his kind of girth are so expensive to insure.

Amazing how angry some people get when someone disagrees with them. To be clear, trying to bring to light perceived flaws in the system and presenting ideas for better ways, whether you agree with them or not, is not unAmerican. It is the heart of being American. Being Ameican means we do not accept every word our leaders tell us. It means we think for ourselves. Criticizing perceived mistakes does not mean you hate America. It means you LOVE the country enough to try to make the country as good as it can be, as fair to all as it can be, as free for all as it can be. This whole "America love it or leave it' attitude is really anti-ameican and goes against all the ideals which make this country great. As Teddy Roosevelt said, it is our duty as patriots to stand up and say something when the government and members of society are going against our common interests.

Am I a fecalphobic because I don't want my TV/movies filled with imagery glorifying feces? In the same way, I, and the majority of the world, are not "homophobic" - we just find that behavior to be disgusting. However, this article was about Michael Moore. He can never "jump the shark". He is a storyteller who excels at pulling the wool over the eyes of the gullible and fills his movies with lies intricately woven with some truths. There's a word for it: propaganda. His movies are about as believable as the Transformers movies.

Michael Moore seems to hate America. Very disheartening. He is a third rate filmmaker and that's about it. Is it true that he donates most of his profits from his films? If so, that's a good thing.

Thank you MIchael for again pointing out our hypocritical nature! Scurlock has joined the legions of penis-envyers who will drown in their own debt while clinging to the illusion that they too oneday will become wealthy. Greed is the underlying force behind capitalism and why it is doomed to the scrapheap of other failed isms. The legions of indoctrinated zombies who blindly follow their wealthy idols - becoming no less the good consumers than the good germans of the 30's - will probably never get it but the reality is we have been living an illusion. An illusion created by the wealthy that by selling our souls to the federal reserve bank we will gain heaven on earth. Our fictitious lifestyle - once touted as the american dream - is over. Time to wake up pigs - your bill is due. Time to make room at the trough. You go Michael!!! Pearls before swine.

ABSOLUTELY PIGS BEFORE SWINE , MICHAEL WHICH ARE YOU AGAIN....? OH YEAH AN AMERICAN HATING PIG

A classic example of attacking conservatism by grossly lying about it. Just like Moore. You fundamentally misunderstand so much of reality. You don't realize that most of what you do every day is solely for your own interest. You too are "greedy" - you just aren't as successful. You buy the notion that all who are more successful are just more evil - it makes you feel good about yourself!

The truth is, self-interest is natural and inevitable. It isn't even un-Christian, though many of its byproducts are. Conservatives support an open society in which the rule of law prevents abuses like muggings, false advertising and contract violations. We differ from you in that we stop there, instead of going farther and protecting people from themselves (which inevitably reduces opportunity). We aren't so foolish as to think that we can prevent people from acting in their self-interest. We seek to channel human nature towards its constructive outcomes.

You see that you are less successful than others and latch onto any abuse that does occur, using it as justification to wipe out the whole system for a new one that favors you more. You exaggerate the problem (so does your political leadership) to justify more power for yourself. Taking advantage of a crisis - who's the evil greedy person now?

        Well said and spot on!

MICHAEL MOORE HAS MADE A LIVING LYING, ABOUT NEARLY EVERYTHING , HES ALOT LIKE ALGORE , NO TRUE EVER EXISTS HIS FILTHY MOUTH........ HE IS THE POSTER CHILD FOR ALL THING WRONG WITH THE UNITED STATES, AND THE REASON WHY IF WE DONT WAKE UP AND REMOVE THIS KIND OF VERMIN, WILL WILL END UP LIKE THE EUROPEANS WE WILL FORSAKE OUR HERITAGE AND HISTORY AND BE DESTROYED.......

  • Posted By: Bicster @ 06/18/2009 1:56:04 PM

Gee, seems to me that Michael Moore became quite wealthy hinmself after the last few "documentaries". Is he going to point out his own shortcomings and failings? And why are we so quick to point out others mistakes instead of looking at our owm backyards? Part of the problem in this country is that we don't take responsibility for our OWN actions.....

  • Posted By: darkknight55 @ 06/18/2009 12:13:12 AM

I've noticed that the people who generally agree with Moore's fictitious views are also very easily manipulated and would no doubt be easy to lure into a cult of any type. They don't believe that Moore uses his artistic approach with the magic of editing to get his point across. I just wish that he would dry up and blow away, but that would require a very hefty wind, wouldn't it?

Every discussion that I have had with a true Conservative boils the financial disaster down the basics - it was all gays, liberals and blacks. Invoking the doctrine of infallibility for the Republican party in all matters of politics and economics, they have identified CRA loans (loans to creditworthy minorities in redlined districts), Barney Frank (a gay), and the Democratic party supporting equal opportunity housing.

Since the doctrine of infallibility denies any responsiblity, it has to be gays, liberals and blacks.

    • Posted By: james.free @ 06/17/2009 7:22:05 PM

Every discussion I've ever had with a true liberal boils down to the same thing - they always lie about conservatives.

    • Posted By: dmb12345 @ 06/16/2009 10:21:35 PM

Whats your point- Don't believe in personal responsibility- want mommie's bossom?

  • Posted By: DishOfReality @ 06/17/2009 1:44:55 AM

Moore's a special type of "wealthy". He's the kind that makes millions scaring idiots by drumming up bogus controversies. He's the type that cons more money out of idiots and puts it in the hands of other scammers like Al Gore and MoveOn.
Will he point out how Government's meddling in the financial market created the fall of Fannie Mae and subsequently the entire economy? I'll never know because I won't spend any of my hard-earned "corporate" money on his time-wasters.

    • Posted By: SeattleGuy @ 06/17/2009 2:07:05 AM

Uh, Fannie and Freddie fell under Bush/Paulsen. And if your hypothesis is correct, why are we seeing so many prime mortgage defaults and foreclosures?

      • Posted By: james.free @ 06/17/2009 7:20:23 PM

Fannie and Freddie were created long before Bush. The seeds of their fall were sown decades ago too. Bush warned of this more than his Democratic contemporaries, too. You have to be drinking some serious Dem kool-aid to pin them on Bush.

      • Posted By: libertyfirst @ 06/17/2009 11:32:55 AM

No, Fannie & Freddie fell under a Dem controlled Congress who willfully told us year after year that Fannie & Freddie were fine. And as far as why are we seeing continued foreclosures?...wow...and you called dmb a dumbass.

Moore makes millions creating a fictious picture of the world that the "progressives" out there love to lap up at every chance they get. He's playing them for the fools they are and getting damn rich doing it. Gee, I wonder if he'll uncover some nasty truths about his own wealth. Ha...not likely. Greed is what drives our economy...always has and always will. Thankfully. I just hope it we can keep the greedy public sector from taking every last dime before its too late for the private sector.

  • Posted By: james.free @ 06/17/2009 7:17:50 PM

Michael Moore is an appallingly dishonest person. There is no way one could spend as much time researching these issues as he must and not abandon his preconceived notions. He starts with hate and invents rationale.

  • Posted By: hiliftjack @ 06/17/2009 5:24:58 PM

Michael Moore is just a leftest version of the rightest Rush Limbaugh. They both play on a mentally challenged part of the population and then run happily to the bank.

  • Posted By: curanipedoug @ 06/17/2009 3:53:37 PM

Insightful criticism! You don't really know anything about the film and yet you are willing to condemn it. What if Moore was just being satirical? What if you wrote about something you actually knew something about?

  • Posted By: hlgns763 @ 06/17/2009 3:09:21 PM

maybe he should make a movie about the abuses of the welfare system too....

  • Posted By: Iconoblaster @ 06/17/2009 12:40:25 PM

Go Michael Moore! But before he goes very far, I hope he reads "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" (if he hasn't already). It would provide a head-start on some very good material about "how things work", how many of the rich get continuously richer, without the inconvenient requirement of doing anyone else any real good that a real free market would necessitate.

  • Posted By: Paul Norheim @ 06/17/2009 11:48:51 AM

Now that James Scurlock so generously have shared with us his thoughts about what he doesn`t like about a film he hasn`t yet seen - could Newsweek perhaps next week invite someone else to write about a new film they haven´t yet seen, but that they really, really will enjoy watching - if the film miraculously happens to be identical with the one they see so vividly in their heads?

I find this new genre (hypothetical film reviews?) interesting - but please, Newsweek: give us a positive review next time - for the sake of balance in the realm of imagined art products.

The true "idiots" are those who oppose Moore without arguing the underlying issues. He has proven completely correct on most of them. For example, if we reinstated the draft, we would not be going to war simply for political advantage. And the only reason we don't have a national healthcare program is that we have foolishly inserted a bureaucracy between the patient and his physician, it's called the insurance industry.

    • Posted By: libertyfirst @ 06/17/2009 11:48:33 AM

What does one go to war then for if not for "political advantage" -- whatever the thell that means? And as far as our healthcare system; what do you think Medicare and Medicaid are? Nearly two-thirds of the "insurance" industry! And what do you think a Nationalized Health Plan will be but a massive insurance program run and paid for by the government via screwing the private sector out of more its own money. Damn, man...look beyond the bloated image and ego of Michael Moore and get some facts before you swallow his crap. There was not a shred of truth behind his last movie that exposed the ills of our healthcare system. Every scene was scripted and staged. Or do you really think that the typical Cuban gets better quality healthcare than say a person at the Mayo Clinic?

    • Posted By: libertyfirst @ 06/17/2009 11:40:42 AM

What the hell has Moore ever proven?? beyond that he's a lying, fat slob who long ago found an audience of sheep who believe and BUY any crap he spews out. An audience of the frustrated and spoiled who believe that its their right to have all what they want; that no one should make more than they do; that all business is bad and evil; that all Republicans are out to destroy the "little guy" -- get a frickin life. Just talking about Moore makes me want to vomit. He and Al Gore are two peas in a pod....a very, very large pod.
