I agree with what you have said, but also have to say that I have seen this coming for a long time. The egomaniacs who run modern F1 have brought this on themselves. And you are right, it is playing out a lot like the CART/IRL split in the US, which had such disasterous results for open-wheel racing. Few seem to recall that CART was bigger than NASCAR prior to the spilt. Now, those spec-racer taxi-cabs going around in circles and driven by guys named "Fireball" and "Junior" dominate American motorsports. There will be no F1 without Ferrari. This war of ego smacks of open wheel racing in America after Tony George. F1 is the most watched auto racing in the world by far. Its uniqueness derives from the fact that it is the qualitative pinacle of automotive engineering and driving. It seems obvious, then, that limitations which would make it possible for inferior teams to have competitive cars would be an absurdity. They would end up with a world wide NASCAR -- lucrative, but no longer F1. Those who have left the fold seem to get it. Either F1 is the best or it is nothing. Continue Reading
