I think Mr. Bahari is suffering from one other thing becides being a reporter of reality and that is his the canadian part of his dual nationality. After Zahra Kazemi got killed in jail the relationship between two countries detterioraited and and now Canada has almost no deplomatic affairs with Iran so they can not play political games like the thing UK has done for its reporters. and those who arrested him do not count on a newspapper as a kind of support for someone. They do not understand the power of media.

Newsweek: Mr. Bahari is still in jail and we have yet to hear from him. We have created a group which demands his immediate release. Why do you not publish this? We are very concerned for his safety.
Maziar being the Iranian correspondent for your pulblication it would be enlighting and comforting in some way to see you take more action and hear your voice! Please let us know which steps you are taking in order to help in securing his release.

My heart goes out to the Iranians however, we didn't take to the streets when Bush cheated in '00 and we didn't take to the street when Bush didn't win the popular vote in '04. Maybe we should have taken to the streets, maybe then the idiot Bush wouldn't have been re-elected after starting a war based off lies. We should ask idiot Bush if the Iran election was tainted, he knows all about how to fix an election.

I cannot believe some of the callous and just mean comments on this post. My thoughts and prayers are with all the people of Iran , I hope that everyone returns safely to their families and that they will be able to have the same freedoms that all the jerks have in here to even spew the hate you speak, shame on you! We are all human beings, and should respect each other as such.

Seriously, like we are suppose to care? I am surprised that NEWSWEEK isn't writing positive articles about the Iranian election. NEWSWEEK reporters, are so skewed, twisted, and so far to the left I am shocked they do not fall over. I subscribe to this retarded magazine, so that I know what the left are being fed. As far as the "reporter" held in Iran? Who cares! Give him an award when he is released, or whatever you lefties think is appropriate.

Today, Obama's letter to his daughter's was PRINTED in a PUBLIC NEWSPAPER, then Obama went GOLFING with his maria FRIENDS. Just another PUBLICITY STUNT!

your tone would be different if it was a right leaning reporter from, ohhh say... FOX.

lets talk about the amount of vacation BUSH took while in office.... trust me, you dont want to know... its a wonder our country didnt tank worse than it did with BUSH galavanting anywhere and everywhere he wanted, whenever he wanted.

just remember, republicans/democrats, same shiny appealing wrapper just different colors, and the same crappy gooey center.

Tyrrants abound everywhere, some are better at picking their teams. Some just have to go with what they were given. If you think arresting a Newsweek reporter in Iran is "prepostorous" , you really need to wake up and smell the sewer in your own backyard here in the USA.

Detaining journalists won't help hide what is going on. It just vindicates the belief that the regime did rig the result. There is good analysis of the sham election on www.asiachroniclenews.com. You should take a look.

Keep compromising with terroism j.n. You'll see, it ifunny how Newsweek can bash our nation , yet no one ever detains them, when all along the people they would blame are the ones who defend the freedoms Newsweek journalists and other journalists have. Well, maybe now people will understand what we are dealing and the near impossible tasks for the future diplomacy against false religion and control over masses of people. Not to mention the several revolutions going on at once. This has been the way it has been for a long time, the liberals in America are really traitors , and eventually will help America fall into passivsm. However , we should love our enemies and the true God calls us to this cause. I do not equate Yahwah with America, though clearly christianity and Judeo Law is a much better foundation for civilzation. Iran illustration in point. Sin caused death, God forgives sin, free will is more at stake even in a corrupt anarchistic, corporate run America, capitalism and greed, America is a far better system, a democracy unrivaled ever. Mostly because of liberty and free will, and a religion that has never been forced, it has had its misuse and misguidance but it surely allows for grace and sin and failure and the freedoms to choose. Remember though, people choose wrong and this is not the fault of God, but mans imperfection. We are founded separately for a reason unlike the Middle Eastern countries the liberal press seems to sympathise with all the while ripping fundamentalist America faith, soory guys faith is the glue that keeps America burning with hope and selfless, not self proclaimed legacies such as Obama who are only worried about writing there future legends before they actually have done anything.

"Diplomacy against false religion"? What exactly does that mean? I can infer from these comments which religions rooto thinks to be "false" of course (every religious person seems to think the OTHER folks' religions are false...that appears to be part of the nature of religion)... but does he means "diplomacy" in the sense of the dealings between nations? "Clearly christianity and Judeo Law is a much better foundation for civilization"? Really? Clear to whom? Not to me. I haven't seen any institutionalized religion to be free of warts... corruption, oppression, abuse of the truth, abuse of trust, abuse of power. Islam built a civilization widely considered (in retrospect) to have been "great" while Christian civilization was mired in darkness, enforced ignorance, disease, hatred and war. In the ensuing years since Europe's "Dark Ages", these roles have reversed somewhat (its never a clear-cut thing... there WERE "little" hiccups along the way, like two world wars, genocidal eruptions such as Hitler's Holocaust, Stalin's "enlightened" reign, etc). At this point in history (at least to us) it seems as though the West is the example of freedom and enlightenment, while most of the countries of the prior Islamic Caliphate(s) have fallen under control of despots... but people of the West should not congratulate themselves too quickly upon their wisdom and the superiority of their political systems, since colonial, and subsequently economic, exploitation of those countries BY the West have played an important part in the rise and persistance of many of those despotic systems... in places like Egypt, Iraq and Saudi Arabia by placing regimes into power, and supporting them there, in others like Iran and Algeria, by the consequences, the "blow-back", of having done that in the past. "Christian" civilization wasn't exactly humane and enlightened in dealing with Africa, or with indigenous Americans (who were nearly obliterated by it).

The one real shining light of Western example in all of this is the institutionalized separation of Church and State... to the extent we actually respect it ourselves, this is probably the greatest social advance in human history. If I thought for a moment that rooto was talking about that, I wouldn't disagree... but he appears to be arguing for something else entirely.

What did he expect? Why are they behaving, like this is a surprise? They wanted to get their story. Well... Funny thing, they had their upsrising in '79... Stay out of their business... Let them sort it out... We are in enough trouble in the Middle East...
