Most people are missing the point in this healthcare issue and Democrats and Republicans are using the scriptures to justify their points of view. Most democrats need to read the 10th Commandment "Thou shalt not covet." which will tell you that this policy of taking hard earned money away from the rich and giving it to those who didn't earn it is covetousness plain and simple.

The bible clearly tells the Christians to help the poor and doesn't mandate that the Government helps the poor. It is amazing that most democrats claim to want separation of church and state then turn around and try to enforce a Christian doctrine on the masses by breaking the 10th Commandment.

We are more than happy to have the Christian community join us in the fight against climate change and health care as well as eradicating poverty (an issue which Jesus cared very much about). We don't care if you're a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu or Atheist - these issues matter to all humans regardless of religion. What commandment did Bush break when he gave tax cuts to the wealthy? What commandment did he break when he invaded an innocent county that did not attack us on Sept 11? Thou shalt not kill? By the way, God is not a Christian. Or a Muslim or a Buddhist or a Hindu. And Jesus was a Jew.

      • Posted By: bojack27 @ 06/25/2009 10:35:31 AM

Climate change is a hoax along with AL Gore! Healthcare is an individual responsibility! If you don't change your lifestyle and live a healthy life then your health care cost will skyrocket. This is the rights of Insurace companies to charge you for living a high risk life.

The biggest problem with healthcare is government interference! The FDA is the main culprit in requiring a new medicine go through 10 years of testing (costing 300 million dollars) before being put into the market. They refuse to allow alternative medicine that can do the same thing that these costly medicine claim to do. The FDA doesn't make money if people are healthy but they do make money if you are sick.

If you are going to claim Jesus cared much about Healthcare then please produce scriptures. As for eradicating poverty that will not happen. Read what Jesus said about the poor,

Mark.14 [7] For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

But Jesus does tell us to help the poor, but this doesn't mean government mandate of taking the money forcefully away from people. Jesus never commanded the government but the followers of God.

Bush didn't break any commandment when he attacked Iraq! Iraq wasn't attack just for 9/11 but failing to abide by U.N. Resolutions, most of your dems and liberals seem to forget this point. As for God being a religion then you are correct. But note the word "Christ' means "the annointed" of God. So God's annointed is Jesus and him alone has God annointed not Muslims, Buddhist or Hindu. Try telling the Jews that Jesus was a Jew and you will find most reject this notion (accept those Jews for Jesus). But that is why we say we have Judeo-Christian values!

Wrong, climat change is not a hoax... Why do you think so many countries are worried about it ??? Climat change is happening right now and fast !! Way too many gaz in the air, too many forests cut down! Are these action from a natural cicle ?? NO ! We are doing it and it is going to destroy the planet ! Ever looked at Mars. This is what the planet may look in 500 years !

GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE
THE LAST AND FINAL COMMANDMENT (11th COMMANDMENT)
LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED
Doctors and medicine are a gift from God to us for people who do not have the faith needed to be healed. This gift is being used to make money and lack of money denies medical treatment.
THE LOVE OF MONEY OR WEALTH IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL

Yeah Right! Then how is it that the rhetoric of Global Warming has died down? You don't even hear the term anymore especially since data proved that the earth has gotten cooler in the last few years. Now all of a sudden we are talking about climate change, so tell me what is the next theory of what is happening to the planet. Oh yes that would be overpopulation right?

People need to get over the little differences between each other so we can overcome the global problems of our generation so they dont become the problems of future ones!

You assume the rich got their money because the worked hard for it, but many of us wonder if they didn't get rich by stealing from the middle class.

It isn't the 10th commandment that's getting broken.

      • Posted By: paproudmom @ 07/06/2009 3:18:20 PM

Coveting is a sin. Being jealous of others accomplishments is for the lazy. I don't worry what others have I worry about how hard I work.

      • Posted By: bojack27 @ 06/25/2009 10:02:00 AM

You assume the rich got their money because the worked hard for it, but many of us wonder if they didn't get rich by stealing from the middle class.

If the rich got their money from stealing from the middle class then they need to be prosecuted by the law. Now you have a government wide theft of money from the rich and middle class. I don't know if you have seen the latest on the tax and spend agenda this administration is embarking on but if you think that everyone is not going to pay higher taxes then you are blind.

Quit wondering why your neighbor is successful and your not this is envy and when you take their possessions based off of wondering then it is covetousness period.

It isn't the 10th commandment that's getting broken.

Not only is it the 10th commandment it is also the 8th and the 9th Commandment that they are breaking.

        (8) Thou shalt not steal
        (9) Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor (you are making false accusations)

Let's look at the record - specifically the 4 Gospels. Jesus spent most of his ministry healing the sick. Never once did he ask any one about their HMO or health insurance. If we are a "Christian" country, that is what our health care should be about - healing the sick - not trying to save for-profit insurance companies.
Let's also remember that Jesus told the rich man to sell all he had and give to the poor. How would Jesus feel about raising the taxes of the rich to provide health coverge for the poor? Jesus also never condemned gay marriage. In stead he inveighed against hypocritical religious leaders of his day and age. Undoubtedly today, Jesus would attack many of the tele-evanglical preachers who side with the rich and greedy rather than the poor and needy.
Finally, some religious leaders are getting the message. "Thy will be done on EARTH, as it is in Heaven."Truly God's will is to heal the sick - regardless of their ability to pay.

    • Posted By: paproudmom @ 07/06/2009 3:22:39 PM

Wonder how Jesus felt about covetingand being lazy? If you want to help the poor financially you have to work hard to have the resources to do so. For all that complain about not enough being done for the poor just think if they would work harder then they could pay more in taxes to help. I am always suspicious of those who say others should help. It is easy to be generous with others time and money.

    • Posted By: bojack27 @ 06/25/2009 11:10:46 AM

Let's look at the record - specifically the 4 Gospels. Jesus spent most of his ministry healing the sick.

      True

Never once did he ask any one about their HMO or health insurance.

      True

If we are a "Christian" country, that is what our health care should be about - healing the sick - not trying to save for-profit insurance companies.

I agree, but Obama says that we are not a Christian country.

Let's also remember that Jesus told the rich man to sell all he had and give to the poor.

Yes Jesus told THAT rich man to sell all HE had and give to the poor. Because that rich man ask what must HE do to inherit eternal life. But Jesus didn???t tell all the rich to sell everything they have to give to the poor.

How would Jesus feel about raising the taxes of the rich to provide health coverge for the poor?

Why don???t you tell us how He would feel? Back it up with scripture please.

Jesus also never condemned gay marriage.

Jesus said that marriage is between a man and a woman period! Notice the last scripture saying, ???What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder.??? So show me where God has put a Male with a Male and a Female with a Female.

      Matt.19
[4] And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
[5] And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
[6] Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

In stead he inveighed against hypocritical religious leaders of his day and age. Undoubtedly today, Jesus would attack many of the tele-evanglical preachers who side with the rich and greedy rather than the poor and needy.

      I agree

Finally, some religious leaders are getting the message. "Thy will be done on EARTH, as it is in Heaven."Truly God's will is to heal the sick - regardless of their ability to pay.

Now you are assuming that Jesus heal ALL of the sick. Some couldn???t get heal or miracles being done because of their unbelief. The gifts of God are not for sell period. But not paying a person who has made it his profession is nothing more than stealing. Jesus does say to pay those for a honest days work.

Any pastor who agrees with this should be willing to get taxed on their church's profits.

    • Posted By: bojack27 @ 06/25/2009 11:12:12 AM

I agree with you one this that pastors who agree with stealing money should get tax.

      • Posted By: FreeMind9021 @ 06/28/2009 3:34:36 PM

There is no reasons for churches to hold a tax exempt status.

Your church takes in billions of non taxable dollars every year, a tax on that would go far in helping out our economy and defecit.

That is, unless you can come up with a reason they shouldnt be taxed other than "waah, the church is supar awesum so it shouldnt have to!!!!!!!!!!"

        • Posted By: paproudmom @ 07/06/2009 3:14:45 PM

Let's see - if the government taxes churches they will waste most of that money and pennies on the dollar would go to helping the poor. Or we could leave the churces alone and they could continue to massively fund helping the poor. A no brainer if you ask me.

        • Posted By: bojack27 @ 06/29/2009 1:19:35 PM

Yeah then the government and people like you can help the poor and needy in the communities. If churches didn't get tax exempt status then some communities would not be standing today. Especially in the black communities...

Many of us remember when Ronald R. became Governor of California he hated domestic programs and proceded to end as many as it was politically possible . When he and his VP , GHWB , took over the reins of the US Government as a team they began to close many of the US Government programs also . An assault which continued through the GWB Presidency . During the Ronald R. , the GHWB , the WJC , and the GWB eras many health care programs were closed and in some cases putting many institutionized people out on the streets where many remain today and leaving many low income people with no place to go for health care . Prior to Ronald R. the AMA group had competition from the many local , county , State , and US hospitals and clinics and kept their charges low enough for many Americans to afford health care from them . Once the many public clinics and hospitals were closed or shifted to higher income groups the AMA group began to increase the amounts of their charges and to continue to make profit the health insurance companies increased their charges also and both have increased at a rate greater than any wage increases or inflation increases . These rate increases are a burden for medicare and some of it's recipients as the annual Social Security check deductions for medicare insurance increase to cover the AMA increases . Presently a trip to the doctor's office or the hospital is a terrifying experience for any medicare recipient . The bill always exceeds the amount the medicare insurance and the out of pocket supplimental insurance pays . So the AMA is really giving the seniors a mental illness to go along with their other aliments . Bring back the AMA competition . Not the insurance .

Lisa Miller continues to pen some very fascinating articles centered around issues which concern the mases. The issue of universal health care a trademark of the Democratic Party. The Obama\ Biden adiministration is doing an outstanding job by availing their plans to promote universal health care. The transparency associted with new governments is commendale

Highly appreciating the highest ranking of ???Marvelous Statesmanship??? as US President - Barack Obama, with outstandingly passionate, highly responsible & reserved comments without any interference in sovereignty of Iran, in yesterday???s News Conference, expressed witnessing concerns with ???Global-Eye??? i.e. a ???Human-Eye??? regarding on-going Regional Peace Policies leading to Global Peace Initiative & Sustainable International Development Process. Of course, these positive policies & moves for ???Development-For-All??? are visibly long-term & long-lasting and Historically recording of remarkable Obama-Administration under your ???foresighted??? Political Leadership of Peoples Government (of the peoples, by the peoples, for the peoples) of United state for ORGANIZING FOR AMERICA, and our new millennium approach & commitment to taking care for better environment on our Planet ??? of an ???un-biased??? Human Earth.

Obviously, strong response by 60 to 77 % and much silent approvals of the rest must be inspiring on highly reserved, responsible and strong stand of your fabulous proceedings on national & international issues especially related with national, regional & international peace & development, Economic development, financial re-structuring and re-organizing with peoples??? friendly ???regulations??? for healthy pace-of-economy???, and especially Research-Oriented Educational development & Health Care Reforms. Consequently it???s national & international ethical responsibility of all who are more than 80% (in my opinion) approving & endorsing your foresighted Political Leadership & brilliant Statesmanship, to come forward joining hands National Spirit i.e. the call-of-time for ORGANIZING FOR AMERICA, with ???above-self??? & ???above-communities??? , 'above-group', 'above-party' & 'opposition just for opposition'.

Health & Education are foundation of organizing of a nation. And any individual-level and 'national-or international-level' institutional sharing in these sectors is a 'productive-investment' for generations to reap benefits on long-term basis.

In fact; Health, Education & Transport are such three sectors of Economy where highest %age of peoples can be adjusted to work, based on factual analytical studies. So,no doubt, it'll be a remarkable example for other countries especially for developing countries and African countries, what President Barack Obama is navigating, thriving & striving for.

We must have to join hands with foresighted & leadership of President Barack Obama and dynamic Obama administration, also concentrating Health Care development policies to control health care high cost, insufficiency of Health care providers for a quality and affordable care as well.

This problem will never be solved working from the top down. The same goes for every issue we have. Getting to the root of the problem. First of all, our Medical learning institutions claim an extremely high cost in it's selling of education. But obviously these institutions for the high price they require do not teach med students how to do miracles, you would think for the price that they would. So, trying to get them to take lower compensation is nearly pointless.

Sorry, but if the state could deliver a high quality education for the actual cost of the program, we would be able to pump out alot more humble doctors. Thus creating a new paradigm for the future. But, this would be some time off even if we started today.

    Bojack 27,
I thought this article was a discussion centered around religion and unversal health care.
Why are you using it as a platform once again to oppose gay marriage? Why do gay people bother you so much?

    • Posted By: bojack27 @ 06/26/2009 12:49:56 AM

That's funny if you look on this blog you will see I was responding to others about Gay marriage and what Jesus actually said and didn't say. All other posts have been about the subject until you come along and make a railing accusation that I'm posting and turning this into the very thing you accuse me of doing.

GET REAL! If something comes up to contradict the scripture then I will post. If you don't like what I post then present argument against the subject. So stick to the subject and answer about things that I have posted and not what your imagining that I'm doing.

Certainly, health care coverage is a very significant issue for every American and this transcends race, gender, sexual orientation or political affiliation. Our health and that of our families is important to all of us. My hope is that Obama's health care plan will help to cover every American.

It is time to tax all these churches. When will they understand that politics should not mixed with religion ? It is forbitten by the constitution ! They remind me of these muslim clerics preaching against women, gays and pushing down people's throat their own morality.

  • Posted By: toolkien @ 06/25/2009 10:26:49 AM

Until we have a political culture wherein we live and let live unless there are clear and present dangers presented, we are going to continue to Force and coerce people to act and behave as they otherwise would, which is the very essence of economic misallocation. An economy can only go so long with massive misallocations before collapsing and the brutishness that goes with it.

Simply put, using Force against people who aren't using Force against others will damage society and culture and do more harm than what you are presumably trying to fix in the first place. Using the butt of a gun or threats of an all expense paid trip to Cell Block D in ANY WAY ulitmately shatters society whose root is the economy which represents the clearing house of individual choices. Those choices should be respected even thought they are different than our own, or at least tolerated when life and property at not DIRECTLY at risk.

People have a bad opinion of a truly free market (something we've ultimately never really had). If the market isn't free, then it necessarily must be a coerced market. Whatever the motivating principles behind it, it merely gives license to a minority who can't possibly know all ends of the chaos that surrounds us, but they appoint themselves keepers of the guns so their Word is Law. I can only hope that one day people won't look to Kings or Gods for answers. We have 5,000 years of history which shows that you mostly get swords or guns in return.

It's funny how religion is bad when it goes against your temporal and secular desires. It works both ways, left to right and vice versa.

As an atheist I don't really care what the particulars are of the collective superstitions people believe in and congregate around. When ANYONE, religious or secular, wants to use the Power and Force of the State to take property from people and endeavor to control their behaviors when they have done nothing but act and behave peacably (i..e. not clearly and presently attacked another person or their property) then I am against them.

The Federal Government is now simply the clearing house of those who want to "mail a fist" to someone else. Theocratic or secular is really just semantics. The end of the road is that we have traditionalists and progressivists so taken with their constructs of the universe that they get to use Force others to act other than they would choose to uncoerced.

Bible thumping Rightists trying to get into everyones' bedroom and medicine cabinet. The Bible carrying Leftists who adore State socialism and Forced transfer payments to pay for enttilements. Secular conservatives who see threats from every corner of the globe and want to send a cruise missile in every direction once a week whether they deserve it or not. The Secular left who thinks that the State can be the cure for every malady that besets mankind even though 100+ years of intervention has merely gotten us five Wars and several economic busts that have lasted a good decade or so, and a $54 Trillion accrual basis debt. And pretty much the same problems we've always had.

Socialist health care will inevitably be inefficient and expensive, with the allocation/rationing of services not based on an ability to pay but based on bureaucratic Pull. The first among us will get to cherry pick the best of the lot and rest of us will live with whatever is left over. And it won't be based on an allocation tied to maximum productivity but some version of Dark Age superstition or its equivalent.

As for our crises being due to capitalism, understand that education was totally socialized in the 1880's-1890-s. Our money was socialzed in 1913. Our labor was de facto socialized in 1913 as well. Retirement was socialized in the 1930's. Health was largely socialized for many in the 1960's. Regulations and oversight of corporations brought industry under the yoke of the Federal Government due to the perversions of the Commerce Clause in the Constitution. Unions, draconian EPA regulations, and the second highest corporate tax structure in the world drove hard production offshore. ALL of these things are INTERVENTIONS by Statists in the free market. And the economy is nearly dead.

Newsweek's Lisa Miller recently posted an article framing health care in terms of "culture wars," quoting (of all people) Missouri's John Danforth--the guy who gave us Clarence Thomas. I would like to suggest that the debate can be described in terms of sociobiology. For the most part, high income pundits with health care are perplexed that the riffraff should be allowed to tap into the system that keeps them alive and healthy. Where Eugenics failed to make their neighborhoods safer, perhaps gold-plated health coverage for the very few will do the trick.

First of all, some churches have been too quiet for too on political and social issues. Many christians endorse the spurious belief that church and state are seperate entities, but the church member is still a citizen. At the same time, I do not believe that pastors should be informing church members how to vote and which policies to endorse. That is an idividual decision.

  • Posted By: klebrun @ 06/25/2009 6:52:38 AM

My God!!! Evangelicals acting like Christians. What comes next?

"More recently the George W. Bush administration was frequently accused of shrouding political fights in religious rhetoric???and of manipulating its conservative Christian base to further its own political ends"

The only possible connection the GOP has to christianity is opposing gay marriage and abortion. And frankly, beyond using it as a ticket to the White House, they could care less. These two issues are a smoke screen for a political party hell bent to loot the country with their form of pure capitalism- which is why we are in the mess that we are in.

We have a once proud country taken over by big business and treating the working class like cattle.

We need a third party which is a balance of capitalism and social justice and anti-abortion. Gay marriage, unfortunately, is a lost cause for the conservatives, based on latest surveys of our younger generation.
