I'm glad to see Newsweek take some notice of this monumental event, even if it's only a conventional wisdom poll. My local newspaper had about a three sentence blurb about it. Sad.

Spain's greatest talent is for self-aggrandizement and macho ostentation. They take their football almost as seriously as their beer (which is awful notwithstanding). The United States has great athletes, as good as the best in most areas of athletic competition, and Americans know what teamwork is. And being good sports helps a team. In Spain, Italy, Portugal players fall apart and begin blaming each other. To win at football (soccer) you need an impetrable defense and one successful attack (ie a goal), like in chess. The US deserved the victory. World, watch out! ... (from the people that brought you D-Day)
