Let's not forget the fact that the school kept the girl waiting on a bench for 2 hours before they searched her, and never attempted to call her parents. Why didn't they? That's an insane policy. My daughter once fell in school and ripped her pants and cut her leg, and the nurse wanted to see the cut. My daughter refused to take her pants down, so the nurse called me, and I came to school and tended to the cut. Should the nurse have insisted that my daughter remove her pants, citing health concerns? Of course not. The school should have made every effort to call the girl's parents, and they should have waited until the girl's mother got there. They could have watched her to make sure she didn't ditch any drugs she may have been hiding.I think if this had been my daughter, I would have wanted to seriously hurt the school officials who hurt my daughter. Any parent would. The country made a big fuss when David Letterman insulted Sarah Palin's daughter. Where's the outcry over the actual physical intimidation and humiliation of a 13-year-old girl by school officials? The nation should have been screaming about this case, not Letterman's stupid joke about Bristol Palin. Our values are really out of whack.

It is a good idea to practice common sense. It's about time. The supreme court usual 5 right wing votes shifted over not because of their change of ideology but because they read the political wind and do not want to further antogonize voters. They can see and feel the country's move and change in electing Obama by a considerable majority. They do not want to further cause damage to their republican right wing party for the upcoming 2010 elections. The civil rights vote was due to the same sentiments Thomas was the lone contemptuos naysayer in both decisions. There is no hope for him. This same bunch was previously always voting anti citizens and always voting pro authority (cops) adn acting like but aour hands our tied. what a load of BS. So much for anti empathy. How convenient that ther past decisions were around 80 to 90 % empathetic to big corporate business and anti citizen and individual rights. This was their interpretation of the constitution for the past 20 to 24 years. Look at these Supreme Court members portfolios and you will see their blue chip stock holdings. They all become millionaires while on the highest U. S. judicial bench.

I also understand the need to keep schools safe from drugs, however I think many people are forgetting that they were strip-searching her because she was accused of having Ibuprofen. Yes it's a drug, but crack-cocaine it is not. The administration's conduct crossed a line.

I agree with the fact that school adminstrators should keep schools safe from drugs. But to humiliate a 13-year-old girl by performing a strip search is completely out of line. Ms. Redding was an exemplary student that had never caused any trouble. The only reason why she was searched was because of the false accusation of a fellow student. Once administrators searched the backpack and found nothing, they shold have stopped. But they overstepped their boundaries and humiliated a young girl that did not deserve such treatment.

I agree with the fact that school administrators must keep schools safe. But to humiliate a 13-year-old student who has been exemplary is not right. Administrators had no evidence of wrongdoing except the testimony of another student, which ended up being a lie. Once they checked Ms. Redding's backpack, without finding any drugs, that should have been the end of their search.
