It seems as though it has become par for the course for U.S. intelligence agencies to be "off the mark" in their assessments. I am not sure why the president or congress even take them seriously anymore.

I don't understand the people who wanted Obama to get all tough on Iran. We cannot afford another conflict in the middle east, and our track record in that area is pretty spotty.

Oh, and is everyone using caps lock in honor of Billy Mays? If not, stop it please.

This is same Ahmedinejad who during the Iran/Iraq war, used young children to clear battlefields of land mines, because they did not scatter when a mine exploded the way mules did. Ask the parents of those children, those who were forced to give up a child, how they feel about Ahmedinejad.

Obama has been kicked off his mark never to return there, by THE POWER OF NEDA

A young Iranian student has arrested the world???s attention in her dying moments. Neda has energized a revolution.

THE US OF A. REALLY LOVE IRANINAS AND IRAQIS AS WELL.
      U R SUCH N IDIOT

        why are you calling names?

this isnt about iraq...its about iran.

and yes, we (as well as russia) supplied both sides with weapons of all kinds. why? the united states and russia are the 2 largest weapons manufacturers/distributers in the world, hands down. they sell to everyone. sad that a buck is being made off of it, but such is life.

YOU MEAN THE MINES THAT THE US GAVE TO IRAQ TO BLOW OUR FELLOW CITIZENS

Media people going into Iran, giving ENGLISH placards to "protestors" who demonstrate for the TV cameras, is brazen interference in Irans internal affairs. The Iranian police have every right to ensure public safety by controlling rock throwing violent "demonstrators"

One of the problems of CIA is that President Carter removed virtually all of the ability of the organization to gain valuable information from Human Sources (HUMINT).

We want our CIA to be infallible. It can never be. It COULD be better, if they would take the handcuffs off.

Faulty intelligence or not, I think Obama made the right call. Iran is desperately trying to blame the unrest on the west and has been grasping at straws. If this had been Bush, they'd just have to put him on loop to reunify the country. Nothing would have played into their hands more than having the US strongly support the opposition during the height of the protests. I mean, look, they've had to resort to blaming it on the BBC because Obama wouldn't give them a soundbite that Republicans wanted. Conservatives hate other countries; why do they keep insisting that they understand them?

The one thing about the CIA that has been established beyond a reasonable doubt is that they have no clue about the political leanings of foreign countries. Iraqi populace turned out to be dumb about liberty. The Iranian populace is smart about liberty. We should err on the side of supporting liberty.

This is the same Hosenball. who with his fellow neo-con Isikoff, flogged the fake US intelligence on Iraq and got us into the Iraq war. Now these blood-fanged cons are out to get us into another trillion dollar war with Iran in the service of Israel. We have enough problems of our own. Obama is right not to get us involved in another Mid-East quagmire.

Another cover story for Obama to push more blame on Bush. We have gone from the ridiculous to the absurd in this country. False flag all the way to the bank. Ooops, they have already destroyed the banks. Can't take anything to the bank these days, the dismantling and preparation for a world currency is in play.

I See from the Media that we have Hordes of [Iranians-Persians] live or reside here in the [USA] OK take your A!!es Back to your Home Land and Form a Militia & Flight Squadron and Over Take the [Theocracy-Democracy]

Though Facts-Records Clearly Show that 3 Weeks before the Election, the [Rat] Ahmadinejad was Leading Mousavi by More than 2-1 Over Mousavi and @ any rate Mousavi said on his Website he was for a ...

    "[Islamic Revolutiion & Islamic Republic]"

That does not sound like a Change from [Ahmadinejad]

Again: All People Concerned with Taking Up Arms to Defend Iranians, Go Build a Militia & Flight Squadron and Drop Bombs On Iran, Bombs Don't Don't Disriminate, as to Mousavi or Ahmadinejad's Followers.

I feel sorry for you. You're mentality seems to be the same as the one's that terrorists look for in recruits to send off on their mindless suicide attacks. Leading 2 to 1? Where do you get your facts? Fact: over one third of Iran's population is under thirty. Fact: 65% of college students are women. Who was fighting on a platform for women's rights? Who had the almost total support of the under thirt group? That invalidates your claim of 2 to 1. It also shows that the challenger would have only got the totality of a single demographic in order to make up his votes. I don't know of any election where that's ever occurred. Also, don't you find it interesting that the 10-11 million votes lead the cleric's claimed proved that there was no fraud was the exact number of votes that could not be validated using unique identifier's similar to SSNs? Guess we get our facts from different places...

It's interesting that Obama seems to be less advised than myself. All I had to go on were the many stories filtering from different sources and a friend who's from Iran. I knew almost the second the election victory was announced that something was up and only a day or two before I became certain that the election was a fraud. I know I'm not quite the mathmetician that some of these analysts are. I've got similar experience and education but it's not my profession. However, I have to wonder if this is a way Newsweek can save their idol or if intelligence truly did fail. For that latter, I find it hard to believe that I could arrive at the correct assessment and they didn't. I would have thought they'd be smarter than that. Of course, it wouldn't be the first time that either scenario occurred in this country. I guess it's true, anything CAN happen.

I think Obama needs to "TALK" and have "DIALOG".. After all that is how to Cure the ills of Iran, N. Korea, Venesuala, and Hondoras. We just need to keep talking and not doing anything, that is the best way to get things done in the world. That way the Russians won't get mad at us, if we don't force a "CHANGE", like happened in Granada, Panama, Kuaite, Iraq, and Afganistan.. I mean Obama may want Noreiga, Saddam back but I happen to like the fact that none of those countries are any problem to us any more.. Not to Menion Lybia..

Yea, we need more of this potent Obama Dialog, the world has definately changed, things are a lot better for the dictators now, things have never been better for few tyrants in the world.. Keep talking, they love it.

    BR

Uhh, let???s try VeneZuela, HondUras, KuWait, AfgHanistan, NorIEga, and LIbYa. Once you learn how to spell, then maybe you can lecture the president about dialogUE.

Interesting that your only reply was to attack the individual's grammar. What, was what they were trying to say to difficult to formulate an argument? Guess you couldn't think of anything better...

Obama is measured because he does not lead. Obama waits to see how the political wind is blowing and then jumps on. Just look at his senate record with 95 present votes. It's disheartening to watch this very naive approach to politics. Remember Arthur Neville Chamberlain and his appeasement of Hitler. A tyrannical government will not be changed by gentle discussion.

  • Posted By: Jim1348 @ 06/28/2009 8:34:10 PM

Only the Neocons think that Obama did things wrong. I think it was done brilliantly. He managed to do more to change Iranian politics with one speech than W. and Cheney did in 8 years. And Obama weakened them, while W. & C. only made them stronger. But we haven't wasted $3T on it as W. did in Iraq, so the Neocons aren't satisfied yet.

  • Posted By: mmcgowan1 @ 06/28/2009 6:11:25 PM

Obama was measured ib Iran because of poor intelligence? Come on. What value would there have been in being more pointed or even bellicose? Would it have helped the protesters? Would it have made Iran's leader's more willing to compromise or to do an honest investogation of fraud? I don't think that anyone beleives that? Obama could have certainly made the situation worse, but there is little he could or can do to improve the situation, especially when we have no appreciable commerce and no diplomatic relations with Iran.

"U.S. intelligence" << the ultimate oxymoron

  • Posted By: Rick Prato @ 06/28/2009 5:14:22 PM

Who cares about Iran, I am more concerned with what's happening in very own backyard with the ouster of the democratically elected president of Honduras by the Honduran military. They should have a color revolution in Honduras. I am curious to see if the mass media pursues what's happening in Honduras with the same vigor that they have with what's happening in Iran. Such a double standard, some of us know exactly what is going on.

  • Posted By: Wpete08 @ 06/28/2009 5:10:27 PM

Come on; did anybody here think this election would be fair and above the table from the beginning? NO. Did we really think a somewhat moderate would be allowed in office in the middle of building Nukes? With the pressure coming from the UN do we think a moderate would be put in office. We must come to the realization that these elections are only a ruse to show that they do allow voting. Now weather the votes are tallied is another issue. Let's stop pretending to be nieve. The news out of Iran before the election was the young people were fed up with the Prez, so why would our Prez think he won handly?

    Oh geez, you idiots.
Can anyone point to any good US intelleigence post wwII?

    Duh!

The way to fix our Intelligence agency is to improve our nations intelligence (il.e. knowledge of the world taught correctly to our children).
