    Part 2

Newsweek magazine is in dire financial trouble and is seeking to survive by cultivating a liberal, urban audience. There is nothing wrong with that, as long as the editors are up-front about it. But this sneaky media stuff is harming America, and it must be unmasked.

With Barack Obama in the White House, the country is facing profound change. America is already on the verge of bankruptcy and federal intrusion into private business, health care, and the environment is unprecedented. The far left is trying to create a huge federal apparatus that will promote income redistribution and "social justice." Also, the left sees a major opportunity to knock out Judeo-Christian traditions, replacing them with a secular philosophy.

In order to accomplish this, the left-wing media is marginalizing people like Sarah Palin who oppose the strategy. Under the guise of hard news reporting, the media is pushing rank propaganda on the citizenry. Dr. Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi propaganda minister, successfully developed this tactic in the 1930's.

Americans need to wake up and smell the corruption. If crazy ideologues have infiltrated the news business, we need to know about it. And now you do.

    Marginalizing Sarah Palin
    By Bill O'Reilly for BillOReilly.com
    Thursday, Jul 16, 2009

    Part 1

About a month ago in this space, I told you that the New York Times had rigged a poll about Americans wanting to pay higher taxes to fund government-run health care. The Times poll said 57% were willing to pay more tax; 37% were not willing to do so. But what the Times did not tell its readers was that 48% of those polled voted for Barack Obama. Just 25% supported John McCain. So of course the poll results would skew left.

Now we have another media deceit. In the most recent Newsweek magazine, there is a nasty hatchet job on Sarah Palin by a guy named Rick Perlstein. The piece is presented as hard news, not an opinion column, and basically says that the governor is a moron who is supported by dimwitted conservatives at odds with smart Republicans. Perlstein also submits that the dumb GOP folks are led by me and other Fox News people.

Anyone reading the story would think that a Newsweek correspondent put it together. I mean, the magazine has a staff of trained journalists to do its reporting and analysis. But Rick Perlstein is not a Newsweek correspondent, and is identified only as an author at the end of the piece. Very strange.

    It gets even more strange.

Turns out that Rick Perlstein is a far-left zealot who blogs for a liberal site called "Campaign for America's Future." Perlstein lists one of his "interests" as "conservative failure." In 2007, Perlstein wrote, "I've just become a proud Fox [News] attacker. Now, you can too. It's not a boycott. It's simply calling advertisers and informing them what Fox says. Fox can't survive that."

So, Newsweek magazine hires a far-left loon to do a hit piece on Sarah Palin, conservatives, and Fox News, and does not inform its readers about the loon's dedicated point-of-view. Newsweek editor Jon Meacham basically tried to disguise an ideological attack as news coverage. Awful.

OBAMA EATS ENDANGERED BELUGA STURGEON WITH PUTIN

The problem is far too little is being done; more oversight is nice but it isn't going to do the job; as the article noted it's fiction.
Until the likes of Goldman Sachs and others no longer have the clout to manipulates the government this will continue and happen again.
I can see no chance of that change in the foreseeable future. I suppose the good news is it happens largley with Republicans in the White House, (I see no difference between Bush's bail out and Reagans) and at lest for the moment the Democrates are in charge but I would still not recomend leaving whats left of your retirement in the hands of Wall Street.

Bob, I have one more news for you. Obama can't stop the next earthquake either. Except that his plans for the economy is meant to repeat its collapse on the same stupid policy pursued by Bush and the clueless GOP.

    JH35180.

Does your mind functions only in partisan terms? Democrats are all bad, Republicans are all good.
Say, my friend, are you an adult ? Because if you are, then you most understand that nothing in life is the way you put it.

To be honest, I don't even know why you are talking about Bush, Obama, and Olbermon ??? Who the hell is that??

This blog (I hope) is for Samuelson's comments about the pro and and con of new regulations in the financial markets..... Do you have any NORMAL, NON PARTISAN comments on that ? Or are you running your own blog here about the brain dead network hosts O'Reilley, and your so called Olbermon guy ? (from the Left I presume by the "nice" name you tag him with).

    • Posted By: jh35180 @ 07/02/2009 10:26:31 AM

gvillagran3. I am well aware what this article is about. My comments were in response to something that vigilance brought up about Bill O'Reilly. As far as the financial markets go, Bush started bringing us down and Obama is pushing us furrther into the sewer. I also responded to vigilance's comments regarding O'Reilly and yes I was actually directing an insult at Keith Olbermann. Thnaks, to Olbermann and the MSNBC morons for the campaign of Obama last year, we are now stuck with Obama. Hillary would have been better than Obama.

Those Presidents crated all this mess, adding chaos and irresponsibility to the market little by little. By the way, banking sector is mostly Democrats area (spending, spending!).

  • Posted By: gvillagran3 @ 07/01/2009 4:21:34 PM

This financial crisis that is costing tax payers trillions of Dollars is as bypartisan as it gets. The fact is that for many years an army of Lobbyst from the financial, investment banking, and insurance industries have been "oiling" the government machinery to their benefit. As a result regulations vital to keep the industry honest were droped (Glass-Steagall act as just one of many examples) , and regulatory agencies power diminished.

The financial industry had, and still has the winning hand when it comes to regulating their world. On one hand we have an iindustry armed with high power Lawyers, Lobbysts, financial mathematical geniuses, MBA's from the best Colleges in America, etc..... On the other "regulating" them we have a G7 Government employee from a City College with a 2.8 GPA .

That is why investors are out f the markets. That's why when Financial News are given to us the VOLUME of the markets is never mentioned. That is why when commenting on the daily ups and downs of the markets, the show hosts never comment that the markets no longer function for investors, but for day traders.

Investors are gone. This market is for Las Vegas type of speculators that have nothing to do with fundamentals. Traders could care less if there's a "fundament" behind the increase of 40% in oil in the last 3 months, because fact is that there is not. Investors care about fundamentals.... That's why they are out.

This is what true investors see in this market. 1) The economy sucks. 2) The market in New York, is now controlled by Las Vegas style bookies, minus the free drinks.

It means that stocks can not serve as investment means any more, and Dow is irrelevant. If you want to invest, buy land, real estate, open your business, but never ever buy stocks, let con artists rob each other. And well being of companies from now on must be measured by their profit, not stocks.

Good Presidents we elected after Reigan: a Lier, a Dog, a Moron, and now an Idiot. No surprize that we are... where we are.

So I guess that George HW Bush is the liar, Bill Clinton is the dog, GW Bush is the moron, and Obama is the idiot. I guess that sums it up pretty well.

Did you notice in his Cairo speech to the Muslim world last week that President Obama did not use the word "terrorism?" Interesting, in light of reports that some in the Obama administration no longer refer to actions against al-Qaeda and the Taliban as the "war on terror," instead calling them "overseas contingency operations." But why? What is the reasoning behind this?

Apparently, the president believes that in order to forge a "new start" with the Muslim world, America must spotlight the common ground between the two cultures. Emphasizing atrocities committed by terrorists under the banner of Islam obviously does not aid that strategy. So out with the war on terror, in with the spirit of cooperation.

Now, some conservatives find this appalling. They say it shows weakness on the part of Mr. Obama. I disagree. As long as the United States stays strong on the battlefields and in the security area, diplomatic euphemisms don't really mean very much. President Obama wants more friends in the Arab world, and he's willing to give Muslims a rhetorical break to get them.

That, of course, pleases the American left, and herein lies a problem. The liberal media is now actively downplaying Muslim terrorism, and that was vividly demonstrated last week when two soldiers were shot by an American Muslim in Arkansas. One of them, 24-year-old Private William Long, was killed.

There is no doubt the cold-blooded murder of PVT Long by Carlos Bledsoe, a.k.a. Abdulhakim Muhammad, was a shocking story. But if you were watching Katie Couric on the CBS Evening News, you missed it, as Ms. Couric did not mention the murder. On ABC, Charles Gibson ignored the story as well. On NBC, Brian Williams spent less than two minutes on the situation.

But the murder of late-term abortion doctor George Tiller by a pro-life zealot was enthusiastically covered by the network news operations and most other national media as well. According to a new study by the Pew Research group, Tiller's murder received 90% more news coverage than the crime against PVT Long. Unbelievable.

It is flat-out wrong for the news media to under-report a story where a American Muslim guns down two American soldiers in a small Arkansas town. Just a few years ago, that kind of journalistic irresponsibility would have severely criticized. But not now. Today, news reporting is a whole different story.

As has been well documented, the American media is now in the ideology business, and President Obama has been a big beneficiary of that. Not only did most journalists vote for Obama, as the president recently pointed out, but the media actively aided his candidacy by providing him with favorable coverage.

    • Posted By: Vigilance @ 06/30/2009 10:27:26 PM

By the way - it just so happens that one of the things that helped the coverage of Tillman was the repeated coverage of his late-term abortion practices by Bill O' Reilly on his show.

This was up to and including the line uttered by Bill that Tillman "must be stopped".

You don't want the attention, then tell your pundits to stop subtly advocating for violence against your political opponents.

      End of story.

      • Posted By: jh35180 @ 07/01/2009 2:15:31 PM

Yes and don't leave out Keith Olbermoron. I am not excusing O'Reilly, but lets face it, its all about ratings and Olbermoron exploited the Tiller murder and practically called O'Reilly the mureder. I don't think that Olbermoron was that morally outraged about the Tiller murder. He was more interested in pulling up his sagging ratings.

    • Posted By: Vigilance @ 06/30/2009 10:21:41 PM

Why not call it the "War on Terror"? Because the "War on Terror" is a blank check for a never-ending conflict that justifies excessive, endless force in the name of national security.

Go back to the Powell Doctrine. You conservatives were doing a lot better when you had the good sense to listen to Colin Powell.

Speaking on the House floor late Tuesday, Bachmann paraphrased conservative columnist Michael Barone, saying: Now we've moved into the realm of gangster government. We have gangster government when the Federal Government has set up a new cartel and private businesses now have to go begging with their hand out to their local--hopefully well politically connected--Congressman or their Senator so they can buy a peace offering for that local business. Is that the kind of country we are going to have in the future? We need to call this for what this is, my colleagues. We need to call this for what this is. Call it out. The American people need to get outraged and figure out that it could be them next. No business is safe when you see the administration appoint czars--car czars, wage czars--there's over 20 czars that have been appointed. And what do those czars do? They bypass the Congress. We are the people's elected representatives; we have been bypassed. We now have an imperial presidency where the President has appointed various czars reporting directly to him.

    • Posted By: libertyfirst @ 06/30/2009 2:55:46 PM

I agree that this Czar thing is WAY out of control. I remember thinking that the first Drug Czar was a bit strange and ineffectual. Now...twenty plus years later, we've grown so many damn Czars that we may as well not elect Congressmen and Senators.

Not sure how we stop this trend, since its coming from the executive branch. Granted, sometimes its called for by some committee chair who'd rather be tanning on some tropical beach somewhere....but honestly, how should se say enough is enough?

  • Posted By: sieg6529 @ 06/30/2009 10:56:08 AM

Of course over-regulation is a problem, but to advocate a complete lack of regulation makes the same foolish assumption that communism makes: that people will act responsibly.

It seems everyday there is another example of media deception in America. With the Fourth of July approaching, it is well worth remembering why the founding fathers gave the press special privileges. They wanted journalists to report honestly???to give the folks accurate, unbiased information so they could make informed decisions about who should hold power. Many of the founders like Thomas Jefferson and John Adams didn't much like the press, but they well understood that, for a democratic Republic to work, voters need honest information.

Unfortunately, the vision of a free and honest press is fast disappearing in America. Let me give you yet another vivid example. This week a poll by the New York Times asked, "Would you be willing to pay higher taxes so that all Americans have health insurance... ?"

57% said they were willing, 37% not willing, and 6% said "no opinion."

So, according to the Times, overwhelmingly, Americans want government-financed health care. That's what the poll says, right?

But if you read all the way down to the bottom of the poll, you see another question. "Who did you vote for [in the presidential election]?"

48% said Obama; just 25% answered McCain. The rest, 19%, did not vote. Wow, that's almost two to one for Obama.

But the popular vote tally in the election last November was 53% for Barack Obama, and 46% for John McCain. Wait a minute. That's a lot closer than two to one. So apparently the New York Times skewed the polling by offering the questions to mostly Obama voters. I'm shocked they supported higher taxes for federal health care, aren't you?

This kind of dishonesty is not uncommon in the media. The Times says its poll is "scientific." Sure it is???scientifically stacking the deck.

I believe very few people read the entire poll before digesting the health care headline. The result is a flawed perception of what the American public really wants. The folks may, indeed, support Uncle Sam paying some heavy medical bills, but this poll is not a reflection of anything other than a New York Times deception.

By the way, CBS News also had its name on that poll.

As a media guy who wants accurate information, that kind of stuff tees me off. As soon as the pollsters learned most the respondents were Obama people, they should have thrown the results out. But the Times ardently favors national health care and a huge federal government. So the con played out.

The most frustrating part about this is that nothing can be done. The Times has an ombudsman, but he's a joke, and no outside agency has any power over the paper. It can pretty much do what it wants, and does.

It is true that the Times and some other media outlets, most on the committed left, are on the brink of bankruptcy. The liberal papers say the Internet is to blame, and that's partly true.
