The nuke threat is a world threat. Not just the US and Russia. Until Russia begins supporting human rights and UN treaties with action, Russia is nothing more than dangerous animal! By supporting Iran and North Korea, or maybe it is permitting these countries to be nuke capable, Russia is showing its true colors. I wouldn't trust them with a golf tee!

Dear Mr. Kasparov - Russia shoudl have a plan for Russia - not America or President Obama. Out of your own mouth, you have clearly given an indication of where and with whom your loyalties lie. Good luck getting elected! LOL

    PEACE INITIATIVE______Global Solutions-of-Global Problems
By TAHIR ZAHEER - Jul 7th, 2009 at 2:26 am EDT
SALUTE______ on success to reset two major Nuclear Power Presidents??? deal as a first START to agree for a remarkable example for all UN members across the Globe to Cut Weapons, enabling to move ahead to carry on NPT signing of countries having Nuclear-Terror (whether in power balancing Middle-East , Gulf, South Asia) and especially highly-irresponsible North Korea.

NO doubt, it???s not an easy and one day task to convert distrust in re-building of TRUST.

Even, according to a Newsweek report: Putin replied in a steely voice "We cannot stand vraskoryachku,". This rarely used idiom means "an awkward position," Nevertheless, a time will come when Russia and its very short-temporarily allies will unable to take asylum from upcoming WTO, ECO, Financial rules & regulation, and Democratic Globalization along with our visionary NEW Millennium???s International Democratic Regulatory Authority under umbrella of a restructured & entirely Democratic UNO with an ???un-biased??? Global participation of each member country without any discriminations of religions, race, colors, languages and nationalities (without any undemocratic Powers & current failures of its Security Council).

Any how, I repeat : Go Ahead with complete TRUST (if we are constructive) God is with US.

Most important is GLOBAL SUMMIT next year decided i.e of course best in Russia for Global Solutions-of-Global Problems especially related with Nuclear Energy for Peaceful purposes by a Global-???Operational???-Management with collective participation & involvement with mutual-understanding of UN members under an International Atomic Energy Commission ???IAEC within umbrella of United Nation Organization.

    Special Note :

I would like to add more international thoughtfulness of mutual association to provide Safe & Healthy Water by Installation of Water Purification Plants to each & every country, with outstanding contribution on UN level and other International Donors level i.e. also Business especially, Green & enormous ???Jobs-oriented??? Projects that will involve a number of relevant industries in our on-going process of sustainable international development programs for best comforts of healthy & peaceful lives of our Generations.

As a Russian I can say that this article is inane drivel representing the opinion of a tiny minority of Russian population. Khodorkovsky is guilty of tax evasion, fraud and auction rigging. Even Al Capone was thrown in jail for tax fraud. Majority of Russian people would like to see all the other Oligarkhs behind bars as well, so if Putin is guilty of something, he's guilty of favoritism.

Russians need three things from the US - 1. Put an end to NATO expansion, Poland missile plans, and meddling in Russia's sphere of interest. 2. Establish normal trade relations (i.e. abolish Jackson Vanik amendment already), 3. Mutually reduce the nuclear strike forces (significant portion of Russian nuclear arsenal is scheduled to be decommissioned in 2012, and replacing those weapons is an expensive proposition).

Russians, by and large, don't give a crap about democracy. They have more pressing concerns, such as how to feed the aging population, how to improve the investment climate, how to diversify the economy, etc. Face it, Russia is FAR more democratic than say China, and you won't hear a peep from Obama about democracy in China.

Russians as you state do not care about Democracy, they need jobs, stability, safety from threats internal and external, an effective state, and integration into the worlds economy. You are spot on.
I hope Lavrov and Clinton can do the hard work once this is past, and give Russia her long overdue place in the sun.
      We need each other.
