Eleanor, your articles are so inaccurate you should write fiction. I am surprised Newsweek still allows you to write political articles. Obama couldn't get reelected if he ran for office today.

The president still has plenty of political capital. What planet are you from Ellie? As far as getting in touch with his "inner LBJ" you are talking about the same twit that spent most of his time voting "PRESENT". Obama is a loser and hopefully this clown will be out of office by 2012. Maybe since Clift admires Obama so much, she and Chris Matthews can fight over him.

I support The President. Now is the time to seek the full employment act. Ten percent of the people need jobs. Then 50 million need health care. Do it. We need to move forward on the war. Let them have Afghanistan. Let them have Iran. We need jobs. We need to rebuild America. Our foreign policy is: we help those who want and need our help, to help us. In reaching for an example of failure of leadership, I find it odd that Clift would pick Obama???s perceived deficiency in forcing his Mexican ambassador nominee through the Senate.

In making her point, Clift seems to fall prey to the notion of the ???indispensable man???. There are no indispensable men, or women, in a democracy like ours. The future of Mexico does not hinge on the identity of our ambassador. If the Republican Senator???s block of Obama???s choice cannot be overcome (and in the present environment, I don???t see that as an insurmountable barrier), then pick someone else equally qualified but with fewer pro-Castro credentials.

Of course, then again, getting a top pro-Castroite into the diplomatic corps may be exactly Clift???s, and Obama???s, objective, and Clift???s concern over Mexico a mere feint.

The problem is not that Obama does not want to push hasrder for health care and cap and trade. The real problem is that Obama is distracted with those problems that are only tangential to the economic problem. Everybody you poll told you that the economy is the most important problem. No matter how good Obama talked it runs against common sense that when the country is almost bankrupt you try to pass very expensive bills to solve other problems. Democrats shout do like Clinton and hire somebody to show the president a big sign saying "It's the economy, stupid" whenever he tries to talk about anything else, otherwise they are going to suffer big in 2010

What Clift left out is that," NO DEMOCRATS ARE READING THE BILLS BEFORE VOTING ". Obviously Pelosi, Reid, Soros don't want to spoil their fun with work.

9.5% Unemployment and shooting up like a rocket. A stimulous bill that was nothing but a corrupt special interest payback that has damaged, not helped the economy. A Tax & Cap tax increase that will impose trillions in costs and taxes on the U.S. econoomy. A totally corrupt health care reform that will put billions into the pockets of the lawyers whiule it bankrupts the nation and puts the very sick and elderly onto a waitlist to die! As the President of the European Union said....Obama has us on the road to hell!

The attacks from critics about unsustainable debt and big government have taken their toll.

Gee whiz. It's not the "attacks". It's the policies.
