The rose of a lyrical verse.

    Singing in
    chorus I hear
    in the sky
    the delicate
    verse of fugitive
    young fowls,
    and there, in
    the sound
    of a large farm,
    the fall of
    a leaf near of
    a wooded desire.

    Francesco Sinibaldi Italy/Usa

I don't think it's a mystery at all as to why Macca doesn't perform more of his contemporary music: He's a performing flea who loves to please the crowds. However, I do agree with this article in that he should play more of his latest music in concert. It just might show the crowds that he's still a musical force to be reckoned with.

Paul McCartney is a bona fide talented musical legend. He's also done great work to support social justice, animal rights, vegetarianism and breast cancer research. The author is correct about "Electric Arguments," "Memory Almost Full" and "Chaos And Creatiomn" being exemplary recent CDS.. There is alot of pressure on MACCA and the Rolling Stones to play hit songs in Concert.

Yes, I've been thinking the same thing. A tour of smaller venues (theater shows) featuring his solo work is a great idea! I'm only 24 and Paul is my favorite artist. After I saw him for the first time in 2002 I dug into his solo catalog and when I saw him again in 2005 I wanted to hear more of those solo/Wings songs. Yes, I'll admit the Beatles songs are good to hear, but after the first concert it gets annoying having to sit a mile away to listen to the audience drown Paul out during Hey Jude and Yesterday. A theater show with more solo material would be great because it would encourage people to focus more on the music and less on themselves. If you look back at his solo material (Ram, Venus and Mars, Flaming Pie - just to name a few) there are TONS of great songs that haven't been played live since the 70s. The new Electric Arguments is great and personally I think it's some of his best work since Flaming Pie (1997), and I'm hoping he doesn't chose to play Drive My Car (again) over some songs from that album.

McCartney is a true legend! I've thought of him so many times during all this time spent on Jackson's passing. McCartney...Lennon...these are the true musical artists of our times. Centuries from now, their music will be cherished...I truly doubt "Beat It" will at all. Paul...play whatever you like...they are almost all gems! Thank you, thank you, thank you for continuing to create and share your music...without the 'circus' sideshows.

He is just getting better and better the older he gets. I wish he would play smaller venues and call it the "No Hey Jude Tour" playing the newer stuff. I am sure he would fill the place night after night. He is a genius and he is still with us. We should appreciate him while he is here.

Yup, he is still brilliant on recent releases, but unfortunately the big crowds want to hear the same old same old. He should play smaller venues and call it the "No Hey Jude Tour" (and give me some tickets. He may be surprised at the number of people who want to hear the new stuff. Love him.

I couldn't agree with you more. McCartney's last three albums are superb, and it always annoys me when people say he hasn't written anything worthwhile in decades. It's simply not true, though understandable since these people likely haven't heard McCartney's recent material. I hope he takes the opportunity on Letterman this week to play stuff from Electric Arguments, rather than a couple Beatles songs he's played thousands of times before.
