I walked the Israel National Trail four years ago with my husband in 42 days from south to north. We celebrated his 59th birthday on our journey and finished exactly on our 30th anniversary. I recommend the Trail for all who love hiking, want an intimate experience of the land of Israel, and as the article says, you will meet a variety of amazing people.
I wrote a book about our experience, "Walk the Land - A Journey on Foot through Israel." Sharing lessons learned and spiritual insights, it appeals not only to those who are interested "walking the land" but to anyone who enjoys travel memoirs.

It saddens me that even with something as uncontroversial as hiking and camping ??? if the word Israel is involved ??? the press can???t keep controversy and politics out of it. Please enjoy the Israel Trail, marvel at the wonders of nature, ponder the ancient relics whether they be caves where the 60,000 year old remains of Neanderthal Man were found, or the ruins of a 3rd century synagogue, but don???t taint something beautiful by artificially forcing your own agenda on it. When you are hiking the trail it is the next water source that you???re thinking about! Take a look at http://www.dianabarshaw.com/israel-trail.php and you will see what I mean.
