The family of North Korea's reclusive Kim Jong Il.
North Korea's "Dear Leader," Kim Jong Il, hasn't appeared in public much lately. But when he does make a rare outing, as in this undated photo recently released by the Korean Central News Agency, the formerly robust leader appears languid and slender. Some reports indicate that he has suffered a stroke or is ill with cancer. The health of North Korea's 68-year-old dictator is of particular importance to global security interests given the threat of Pyongyang's burgeoning nuclear program and the fact that Kim's successor has not been clearly established. By most indications, his third son, Kim Jong Un, is the heir apparent, but there is no guarantee that he will be able to retain control of a country where poverty and corruption are rampant, and international allies are few.
