Regardless of what another commenter said, this applies storngly to what used to be called "Global Warming." There is enormous selection bias, and pressure to produce results consistent with the AGW hypothesis. Unfortunately, this field is also hot for political reasons, making it orders of magnitude worse.

Informed skeptics have never questioned whether the earth has been warming since the "little ice age," nor the first order effects of CO2 increases (for each <b?doubling of CO2 concentration, you get about 1.8F warming).

As Mark Twain, quoting Disraeli said, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies and statistics."

And here's a quote from an article in the January 2009 New York Review of Books titled, Drug Companies & Doctors: A Story of Corruption by Marcia Angell:

???It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of The New England Journal of Medicine.???

I like to say that I can cite research to prove any medical theory, alternative or otherwise, if you just give me a few hours on PubMed.

And that is why we look for people like Sharon Begley to let us know when the research is sponsored by the drug makers and the statistics have been tweaked.

    Nukeboy.

Nice try pal. But what you forgot to include in your "rule of statistics" is that global warming left the realm of "possibilities" and is now on the domain of REALITIES. The data supporting global warming is overwhelming, world wide, and supported by all the scientific studies across many scientific fields (Metheorology, Physics, Chemestry, Biology, etc) .

So the debate from the "There's no global warming" people, has now shifted to there's global warming, but there's a possibility is not caused by man's CO2 emissions. Sure, there's that possibility... But then again there's the possibility that if you go 120 miles/hr in your car you'll not end up killing yourself, but that does not mean you'll do it correct?

Common sence, not "possibilities" rule our behavior as adults for if would react only to possibilities, we would be paralized into absolute inaction , for as we all know there's an endless number of possibilities for every event.

So Nukeboy, stop trying to play games, and simply ask yourself this question. If there's a possibility that global warming is caused by CO2 produced by man, and we can change that by curbing emissions, or destroy our planet ... Why risk it?

You can't picture a clean planet based on a clean economy ???? You can't picture job creration in green technologis substituting coal, oil, etc ?? That's because you are too long on possibilities and too short on immagination . The human race is where it is because we have learned to adapt, so please stop telling us that we can't adapt to a cleaner world.
