The title of the article is what caught my attention. It just so happens that my oldest son, who is now 20, is named Francis. It just so happens that my son also suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. We are also Roman Catholics. I just spoke to my son on the phone concerning what I was going to put for a response. He said, and I totally support him, that he could care less who the person was or what their religion was. You see, when you suffer from a disease, especially one that is literally killing you, you don't get caught up in the little (and in this case, I think this argument is pointless) details. When your house is burning down, you don't ask the beliefs of the firefighters, you simply step out of the way, and let them fight the fire. I had to cut my conversation with my son short, as he began coughing and choking way too badly to talk - one of those horrible things about cystic fibrosis.

"In America religion is not a litmus test." How many atheists are there in Congress?

"About half of American scientists believe in God or something like God." Is a non-intervening god something like God? That is the only way you can get to "about half."

Newton and Pascal et al lapsed into religiousity after their scientific achievements. It looks like Collins is following in their footsteps.

For the unaware citizen, and the vast majority of all are, he/she only cares that the director of the NIH would take science to its highest limits. A sick individual could care less whether the NIH director believes in this or that. She only cares about curing her illness.
