Lying breaks down trust, accountability and ethics; period. The question isn't whether lying to spare hurt feelings is acceptable, but whether our SO is mature enough to accept the truth. If they aren't and we feel compelled to lie to "spare" them, then it's time for an intervention. This is where honesty and trust come in to play..... when we explain that "yes, you do look bigger than 20 years ago, but you already know this....I still love every ounce of you and don???t want you to change for any reason other than what we feel needs to change together", the relationship will bud, grow and flourish beyond any false concepts of a deceiving and lying relationship could ever comprehend. You see, it's insecurities and low self esteem that lead to the defensive fights behind the truth. Lies lead to these insecurities and low self esteem (we know we're being lied to, and if they lie for one thing, they MUST BE lying about everything). Honesty is the only thing that can break through them. A confident and secure BBW doesn't care if you hubby answers honestly-no fights, and no one sleeps on the couch.

Of course, every honest and trusting relationship out there already knows this, esp. those that have come up from the trenches of lies .
