Has it occurred to anyone that we no longer need 2 houses of congress? Now that we elect Senators by popular vote, instead of being appointed by state legislatures, do we really need Senators? After all, we have 435 members of the house already elected by popular vote.

Having 2 houses, and therefore, 2 bills, every time we want to pass a law just gums up the process. Why not eliminate one of them? We could have 1 house, extend the terms to every 4 years and elect them in between the presidential elections. If we gave them all 2-term limits, just like we give the president, we could effectively short-circuit some of the congressional grid lock we currently have, as well as rotate committee chairmanships so we don't end up with so much power in the hands of a relatively few number of legislators. (Think Jesse Helms, Ted Kennedy).

And think of the money we could save.

Either Nebraska or Kansas has a 1-house state government, and they seem to be doing ok.

Let's abolish the Senate, and see if we can't speed things up a little.

It is in Nebraska. It is not a bad idea at all. We do need to go through the constitutional process of amending this.

If you believe that lawmakers had to reconsider the reelection ramifications related to healthcare, wait till cap and trade and the mass legalization of 12 million illegals is truely in play!

The questions of health care and the environment will not end because these bills are passed... more likely they will be around as long as our civilization.

We need to get the CO2 in the atmosphere back to 350 ppm. That's the consensus value that is needed to maintain the climate we know. Check out 350.org
