I have often lamented the state of my (actually healthy and fun) sex life with my wonderful husband because I tend to be a "grass is always greener" type of person. This article really put things into perspective for me not only about our sex life but about so many other things that I fail to appreciate because I'm convinced everything would be great if only everything was completely different. Great article!

I don't think the real myth is that married sex is always bland - I think the real myth is that single sex is always fantastic.

We are so obsessed with "Sex in the City," and other Hollywood inventions that spin fairy tales about how great life is as a single person, we don't stop to examine just how unrealistic that lifestyle is, and how it sets us up to feel sexually inferior.

Most folks I know, if they are being truthful, will tell you that the dating merry-go-round is NOT what it's cracked up to be, and that trying to live up to the fantasy is tiring, not to mention putting one at risk for all kinds of infections.

    Give me monogamy any day.

Further....anyone who bases their marriage on the liveliness of their sex life is really missing out on The Good Stuff. I like a good roll in the hay as well as anyone else but I love my wife for WAY more than what she brings to the bedroom. Staking your marital happiness on sexual gratificaiton with other couples feels dismissive of your partner (to me, it does) and makes sex seem more like recreational entertainment when (to me, again) it should be an act of reinforcing intimacy and unity. Whatever floats your boat is fine with me but my wife gives me so much more than sex: humor, kindness, understanding, intelligence, advice.....married for over 20 years and wouldn't want a relationship with anyone else! Well, if Ann-Margret called me......*smiles!*
