I have a question to ask anyone who can answer. Other than war or living with Iran being nuclear, are there any other possible solutions to this?

unfortunatley there is no answer that lies in-between the two options you list. with nuclear prolifiration it is only a matter of time before the more and more countries become nuclear armed. with this the risk of irrationall behavior combined with nuclear weapons. iran will secure a nuclear bomb, then saudi arabia will buy one, then syria then egypt and in the next 20 years the middle east will be nuclear armed. not to mention the countries that can become nuclear armed within months.... jjapan, germany, south africa, possibly brazil and argentina. this certainly is a cozy thought. there was realy only on short time period we as a nation could have stopped the spread of nuclear arms in the world and that was between july of 1945 and 1946 when the soviets detonated their first one. at that point , we could have stopped it when we were the only ones that had it. now, sanctions wont stop it , several wars wont stop it, pre-emptive strikes will not stop it. all we can do is come up with a policy kind of like in the cold war. we cant stop you from aquiring nuclear weapons but if you use them on us or any other country we will take you out, if the country you attack retaliates with nuclear weapons we will take them out. ie, if india and pakistan start lobbing a bombs at each other we take them both out, iran and isreal the same thing, russia and china the same. not a very pretty thought, but it is a policy and everyone knows what will happen when they press the button. maybe the next intelligent life that inhabits this earth will do a better job. beacuse the only way to get rid of nuclear weapons, is to get rid of nuclear weapons. that will never happen

I have a question to ask anyone who can answer. Other than war or living with Iran being nuclear, are there any other possible solutions to this? I realize that another nuclear country is another lit match near the dynamite but war would be no better. And what about the possibility of Iran having some nuclear relic from the Cold War. Going to war with a country whose leader is stupid enough to want a nuke is not a smart idea. Peaceful negotiations aren't really a possibility in this case but i cant think of anything else. When i read the part about Egypt and Saudi Arabia made me think of the movie Charlie Wilson's War. If a war was started amongst the nations in the middle east then we would need to invest something into it to make sure it ends up in our favor. And thats not American arrogance or anything like that. Its survival.

Sorry, I typed the wrong key, so I didn't get to finish.

My question to all the mad bombers out there is simple. Do you have any understanding of the destructive effects of nuclear weapons. A modern nuclear weapon will generate clouds of radiation which know no borders. These radioactive clouds might easily drift into Afghanistan or Iraq, exposing our troops to potentially lethal doses of radiation - and causing all sorts of deadly illnesses 20 or 30 years down the road. They might contaminate the water supply of the Iraqi's or Afghans, the people we are supposed to liberate. They might even drift as far away as Israel and Palestine. What might happen if these radioactive wastes contaminate the Sea of Galileee, or the Jordan River, one of Israel's major sources of water? I'd suggest people look at what happened after Chernobyl and remember that Chernobyl was a fire cracker compared to a nuclear weapon.

Yes, years ago we tested nuclear weapons in the Pacific. But the danger from those tests were the reason for the test ban treaty. Years ago, we were not aware of the effects of global warming or climate change. What effect would the explosion of a few nuclear weapons have on global warming???? Are we really ready to kiss Louisian and Florida goodby?

Again I applaud Obama for his stand on Iran and congratulate Meacham for his level headed analysis. A lot of people on this blog simply have not done their home work.
