Actually, I have used linked spherical panoramic imgages of designed spaces for gallery environments for a long time. The newest version is under construction and exhibits the work of John Singer Sargent (www.iowaartsgallery.com). While there is no substitute for an in person visit to a gallery or museum, virtual environments can provide extensive opportunities for diallog, analysis, and the extremely important opportunity for scale context which is always missing from any flat presentation of works.

There may be some brick and mortar insitutions that have the belief that patrons will dissappear from their venues because of virtual environments. I believe, on the other hand, that such virtual envrionments can increase patronage as they increase access by broader audiences. By the way, I could use 10 million dollars to further my work which to date has been accomplished by dedicated volunteerism and sacrifice. Part of our plan includes many of these environments of all kinds from the realistic to the fantastic. In a sense, then, the virtual gallery really is another art form.
