There's a whiff of change—or something—in the air these days. News outlets are abuzz with stories on the possibility of looser marijuana laws, from decriminalization to medical-use exemptions, and partisans on both sides are taking to the media to push their messages. That's nothing new: For decades, both anti-drug and pro-pot campaigners have tried to capture the spirit of the times by using popular culture to convince Americans, especially young ones, that marijuana is either bad or not that bad, man, with filmmakers and authors also following suit.
