Indeed, India is so mature a country that really is capable of understanding and acting for its best interests as well as for the interest of other nations.

India stands apart from the United States precisely in this department: America most often is so self-centered that it often fails to empathize with other nations and act for realizing the common interests.

India never bowed to the pressure of the West for signing the NPT and the country always maintained that it is a ridiculously discriminatory one.

Now, being a nuclear power, a confident India can rub shoulders with the big powers and , if necessary, the country won't hesitate to rub noses with countries for protecting its national interests.

India, with its wisdom and diversity, is an ideal nation for the entire world to emulate.

Zakaria tries to make evident the benefits of a relationship with India, as opposed to a relationship with Pakistan. He makes a great case for India, showing the influence India has had in a vulnerable Afghanistan. However Pakistan has the great advantage of a common religion with Afghanistan, both being predominantly Muslim, a fact that cannot be overlooked when choosing which country to build a political relationship with.
