Greed, greed, greed -- isn???t that what this is really is about, haven???t you heard the expression buyer beware? Instead of accidental slumlord -- how about naive opportunistic slumlord or irresponsible buyer? The problem the author is facing could have been averted had some homework been done. Instead, you now seek sympathy and disparage and make generalizations about the poor. Not all low income people are unclean and/or irresponsible. I was once part of the middleclass but due to catastrophic illness and declining health am now poor. I worked very hard sometimes two jobs until I was no longer able and pride myself in being resourceful, maintaining a comfortable but modest lifestyle without neglecting obligations. With the exception of one landlord that ripped me off for a $1,500 deposit. My deposits were always refunded in full after moving because I didn???t destroy their place and left it clean. I know a number of other people just like me. They are clean, decent, law abiding, and don???t destroy their places of residence and by no fault of theirs now live at poverty level. There is an aura of distain that prevails here. It???s true some people don???t help their situation but painting everyone with one brush is just plain wrong. If you think it could never happen to you look at what some of Madoff???s victims are facing
