Greed, greed, greed -- isn???t that what this is really is about, haven???t you heard the expression buyer beware? Instead of accidental slumlord -- how about naive opportunistic slumlord or irresponsible buyer? The problem the author is facing could have been averted had some homework been done. Instead, you now seek sympathy and disparage and make generalizations about the poor. Not all low income people are unclean and/or irresponsible. I was once part of the middleclass but due to catastrophic illness and declining health am now poor. I worked very hard sometimes two jobs until I was no longer able and pride myself in being resourceful, maintaining a comfortable but modest lifestyle without neglecting obligations. With the exception of one landlord that ripped me off for a $1,500 deposit. My deposits were always refunded in full after moving because I didn???t destroy their place and left it clean. I know a number of other people just like me. They are clean, decent, law abiding, and don???t destroy their places of residence and by no fault of theirs now live at poverty level. There is an aura of distain that prevails here. It???s true some people don???t help their situation but painting everyone with one brush is just plain wrong. If you think it could never happen to you look at what some of Madoff???s victims are facing

I wish that you would break down the 46 million figure that Obama uses, such as the percentages of illegal immagrants, those making $75K and refuse to spend the money on premiums...etc..etc.. By doing so it will show how fallacious the figure really is. It is an exaggeration used by the left to promote their universal health program. They will also try to use the AMA as a selling point. The AMA represents a small portion of the 800,000 doctors in the USA and are not representative of the non-members. If you are going to write about this swindle, please tell all of the story...

You have somehow missed the point. At the present time, the privately insured are subsidizing the uninsured through extremely high premiums. It is only fair that the cost of treating the uninsured be spread among all. This can be accomplished in two ways with President Obama's plan: 1) Some people who cannot now afford the current high premiums will be able to pay the reduced amounts due to the insurer's risk being spread and 2) the remaining will be covered by something similar to medicaid.

happen to be one of many peoplle who cannot afford health insurance but not poor enough to qualify for some type of public assistance (not that I want to go there). I'm in my mid 50's and that time where things start to go wrong. I went to make a doctors appointment the other day and the receptionist told me that "the doctor doesn't take patiants without health care. I GUESS i'M JUST SUPPOSE TO DIE. This is a joke living in a country that is suppose to have the best health care in the world. I can also see that with the Republicans it's business as usual. T
ry taking away their health care for a year and see what happens.

As much as I'm not an Obama fan, he is "right on" on this one. We had two oupatient routine surgeries we got over 60 statements for, if patients only had one medical condition treated, and recieved only one comprehensive bill for each medical treatment it would save over $5 billion dollars in postage alone. If people have routine treatments it would be billions. Give the man and chance, and LISTEN. Healthcare could be reduced without expense or taxes. Get involved.

I can't even find my son's high school there since they put the wrong city to that high school. I don't know how many mistakes are there.

Great website. Can you find a more professional and objectve editor? Calling any politician "Godlike" is moronic and harkens back to Hitler.

Count me in as one person who finds the new format of your magazine invigorating. It???s quite different from the format I???ve been used to for 30+ years, but I find that I am more engaged with the magazine- it requires thought to go through it, and I appreciate that. I didn???t realize it, but I had become too familiar with the old format and I agree that it needed a jolt. The Colbert issue provides that jolt- some may find it blasphemous that a ???serious??? newsmagazine would publish this issue, but I really like the gentle satire (much more gentle than his show!) and little surprises that, in my view, adds to the refreshing feel of the new format. The magazine feels younger, and I, in my 50???s, like it.

I can't come up with enough adjectives to describe how much I love your makeover. For the first time, I race to my mailbox for Newsweek first instead of Time! Newsweek is so visually pleasing, love love the one page "The Take". Perfect for my hurried career. So challenges my perspectives. Even LOVE something as simple as the photo band across the top of the pages! AND I'm being INFORMED. You are teaching me about the Middle East. I'm thrilled with my knowledge about a topic I really never cared about. Lastly, the Steve Colbert issue was my favorite. Overstayed his welcome with his "letters", but the final page was brilliant. Thank you for every single thing.

Lighten up! A rich and vivid fantasy life adds pizzaz to our day. This is not an indicaiton of lack of a life rather of a deeper life than the surface displays.

I need assistance with a law suit that I have appealed in Galveston, TX that is so...wrong. I have all the proof to prove it but can't afford it. My child is involved, which rapes her of her chance to start life right, eventhough she has done everything right. I need help now please. It is a casw of rich man verses poor man. Even though being right in every way the poor man loses. It is time for that to end. We all have the right to own our little bit!! We cannot allow someone with money to destroy what we have built.

She commands authority, has a loyal following and people believe everything that she says and endorses as the Gospel. People did the same with Jim Jones, too. Be careful of false profits, even ones who mean well.

Oprah needs more than Suzane Somers. By the way is Suzanne Summers a practicing doctor since she is suppose to know more than the doctors do? Where does she get all of her information from. Plastic surgery does wonders for looks. Oprah does not practice what she tells everyone. How much does she weigh even with a hired chef to keep her skinny??? No comment needed. Practice what you preach.
