To compare California???s housing ???crisis??? to Ground Zero??? is an insult to those who died there, and their families. There is NO comparison!
I can't believe that such basic rights such as education and health care are such a luxury in the US.... sad.
The perception of immigration is confusing in all respect. I am Puerto Rican and realized that America encompass all nationalities. We who call ourselves American are immigrants/ migrants on this land. Our Founding Fathers without consent or legally took seize and ownership of this land. We are all ???illegal in the eyes of the ???Native of this land, we call America???. The Constitution was in part enacted to protect all that seeks harbor from oppression and persecution. Either way, individuals that are violating the laws are eating away at the marrow that makes up this great nation.
Yes, as a taxpayer I am outraged that, I must pay to support Social Programs that nontax payer enjoy. The criminal statutes are the vehicles we use to maintain order in our country. However, criminal laws are covered by the Statute of Limitations. An illegal living in our back yard under the nose of our government is a criminal as defined by law. The Statute of limitation should have ran out on this individual and all others living in the shadows of our flag and shielded by the Constitution.
We as American have extended a ???hand to all nationalities??? we have eaten the food they cook in or restaurants and read the poetry they wrote. They have fought in our wars and in the jungles of our ghettos. A productive member of our country pays taxes and is well educated. It is time that the statute of limitation is respected and we have a nation become one with our brothers and sisters in Latin America.
I came to this country as a legal immigrant 30 years ago and I am proud to say that I am now an American . when i came I was in my early mid 20's . i came with one suitcase , $200 cash and i owe the airline company $900 for my plane ticket. so, I can understand the hard work that you are going through but I don't share your grief and sentiment. a lot of foreigners are waiting for YEARS to come and you bypass the line and you had some nerve to complained that you are having a hard time. Only in America you can do this . try it some other country. you won't even reach the door of the University .
I am now a parents of a college bound . I can't even benefit from an in state tuition because " I earn too much to qualify for any discount or assistant" . My other son join the military hoping to benefit the GI BILL. This country is the land of opportunity just don't expect a free ride. the people are the most generous people that I ever met just don't abuse their kindness and generosity. Oh- before I forget when i came in the middle of winter - a co-worker give a gently used coat and even this day I appreciate the act. My first employer give me food coupon until my social security card arrived - this was the only way i can get paid.so you see.- it is possible . PLEASE DON'T EMBARRASS YOURSELF BY WHINING AND COMPLAINING. Even citizen nowadays are struggling. we are redistributing very scar resource . Maybe you need to go home and get education where you come from because it is cheaper. come back when you are fully educated and more productive and we will have more respect for you.
My grandparents on my mother's side came over on the boat from England and Ireland - legally. Even so, my parents did not have the means to send me to college. I bought my own first bicycle for $3 with money I earned myself delivering newspapers when I was 12 years old. I also sold Fuller Brush door-to-door in high school and worked at a Western Auto in high school. I attended a community college at night while working full time. I earned an Associate Degree in Engineering with a 4.0 GPA. I then continued at the local universtiy, where I earned a B.S. in Business Administration - while working full time - with a 3.5 GPA. It took a while, but I did it. I am sick and tired of hearing from these poor, poor people who whime about the white man(me) keeping them down. Who the hell was keeping me down? I'm sick of hearing how "it's not fair". You're damn right it's not fair. You aren't entitled to anything. Nobody is. Grow up and grow a pair and get on with it. You are lucky to be living in the country where all the real downtrodden in the world risk their lives to get to so they can work full time and earn a degree without fear of rape, robbery or political retribution interrupting their lives on a daily basis.
Wow! K. Gonzalez you must be really mad at your parents for breaking the law by coming here illegally and then breaking the law again and again by forging documents and working in the U.S. without paying taxes! With that said, take solace in the fact that you got a great primary education, on the backs of taxpaying legal citizens like me, which you never would have gotten in your country! If I were you, I???d keep working, apply for citizenship and go back to school after that process is complete. Additionally, I???d also thank god for your and your family???s blessings rather than trying to make me feel guilty for your situation which is based solely on your parents??? illegal and immoral behavior. The fact that they evaded the law for your entire life says volumes about them not ME. I bet you have no guilt or remorse for the legal U.S. citizen who had to go to ???lesser??? school or could not go to college at all because you took their spot on campus only to drop out after one semester? I hope and pray that you will soon learn the lesson of rights and responsibilities, you can???t have one without the other.
the fact is imigrants are tax payers . i am an undocumented student and trust me those words hurt because people like you belittle our hard work and increase our suffering. Why should people like me and her pay for some our parents did long time ago and it is not like we can fix it in anyway possible 10 YEAR PENALTY so please be open minded because we are human and thats why rules need to change constantly to improve are human existence
You bleeding heart liberals should all take a collection and help her gain citizenship then pay for her education. I doubt too many of you are willing to send her a check. Mexico lost the Southwest through armed conflict with the U.S.A., we didn,t steal it. Read up on President Polk.. As for Europeans immigrating to the U.S. many were sent back to their country of origin from Ellis Island. There were strict rules governing who could enter and yes some families were seperated as some stayed and some family members returned. Read the history of Ellis Island. When they arrived there were no welfare programs to help them such as welfare food stamps, sociial security etc. They had to rely on family not the government. Quit crying about illegals of any ilk because most of us are tired of hearing about it and do not care any longer.
boo hoo. Too bad maybe she should go back to Mexico where education would be cheaper. We the tax payers do not owe her an education.
Undocumented Student! Does this say it all. Your family made some bad choices and now the consequences are happening. Does Legal Immigration mean anything? Do articles like this promote softening of attitudes about Illegal Immigration. Is another amnesty on the way and these sorts of articles softening us up? Come on now! This person is here Illegally!! Period. Suffer the consequences. I travel overseas frequently I dont overstay my visa. I am always welcome to come back because I leave when I say I am leaving. Borders are there for a purpose and visitors should respect them. And if you are Illegally here you have no right to be here...Period.
I wish that everyone would leave our PResident and his family alone. Yes they are black and who cares!!! These people are only trying to get something started!!! They are people just like everyone else and are the most down to earth President and first lady that has ever been in the white house and I think people are just jealous!!!! I am white and personaly they can come to my house for dinner anytime and I would feel proud!!!! LEAVE THEM ALONE !!!! They are a beautiful family
Like many politicians, not all, but some want to make a better and more safe environment for the sake of their public and the people. But as far as Corzine, already a billionaire, he continued to make things worst for the state of New Jersey. Just like a democrat, the taxes continue to rise tremendously high. I mean, this guy wanted to close all the local parks where families can at least unwind after a hard day's work. In addition to his high taxes, what is Corzine going to do about that hideous state hospital Ancora. This man visited this hospital and did absolutely nothing. God help us if this man is re-elected.
So is no raving beauty. I am Black so I can say that. To me she is your less than average tall, dark skinned woman who the media has convienced everyone that she is beautiful. But then maybe I'm prejudice because a woman with her looks took my husband. I am short, cute and sport a golden tan. Have five beautiful sisters who are all over 50 and we look better than she does. Besides I would like to know how she lost all that weigh she was carring when Obama first won Iowa.
I am pleased to see that Mrs. Obama is comfortable enough to dress any way she wants when her duties do not involve the White House and instead focus on what is most important toher and that is her family. Who cares what she wears!!! As long as she represents our country in an American way I don't really think it matters!
Mrs. O is on vacation. Let her be as comfortable as she wants to be, maybe she should have worn a pair of daisey dukes so that ignorant america could really have something to talk about. She knows when to put her threads on to be appropriate. The Palin chick has nothing to do with Mrs O. Respect Mrs. O and her shorts. Michelle wear your shorts and whoever doesn't like it can give you and I some "suga"
Gabon is one of the richest nations in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a per capita income 4 times the average & a GDP of $20billion+. Yet most of the country languishes in poverty.Outside the air conditioned government buildings &
presidential palaces, 30%+ of the population survive on less than $1 a day, living without food, water, electricity & basic sanitation.
The death of Omar Bongo, a dictator of 41 yrs, has given Gabon a fleeting & fragile opportunity to elect a democratic, transparent, citizen-centric government on 30th Aug 09. But this chance is under serious threat - http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hmaEksFLnW-oPD4NVTXbpOehuj5w. This oppression is worsened by the government owned media, who ensure the opposition has no platform whilst furthering the political ambitions of Bongo's son, Ali.
One independent nominee looking to alleviate the crippling poverty and harsh life of the Gabonese people is Bruno Ben Moubamba. Please repost link above & support change in Africa

First Lady requires more than 20 attendants
No, Michele Obama does not get paid to serve as the First Lady and she doesn't perform any official duties. But this hasn't deterred her from hiring an unprecedented number of staffers to cater to her every whim and to satisfy her every request in the midst of the Great Recession. Just think Mary Lincoln was taken to task for purchasing china for the White House during the Civil War. And Mamie Eisenhower had to shell out the salary for her personal secretary. How things have changed! If you're one of the tens of millions of Americans facing certain destitution, earning less than subsistence wages stocking the shelves at Wal-Mart or serving up McDonald cheeseburgers, prepare to scream and then come to realize that the benefit package for these servants of Miz Michelle are the same as members of the national security and defense departments and the bill for these assorted lackeys is paid by John Q. There has never been anyone in the White House at any time that has c
I am not one who likes to get drawn onto trying to convince those who always ???know the truth??? but I have become disgusted with the sore losers of the last elections and many of the winners in congress who are too busy playing politics to get done what needs to be done. All I will say is the less factual a person is the louder they yell (i.e. town hall screamers) to keep the facts from coming to light...the right says not to move too quickly but health care reform has been an issue for more than forty years, even in politics that is a snail???s pace.
Those who are debunking change are those who (like the birther's) don't allow truth to get in the way of fact...
As for the massive deficit, a trillion dollar deficit what thrown around when Reagan was president and the republicans did not seem to have an issue then and it took tax increases by his predecessor Bush Sr. and the Leadership of a democrat named Clinton to overcome his legacy.
I would not claim this to be a racist issue because not all republicans are racists and many are my dear friends and I was a republican who voted for Reagan the first time but have become a moderate democrat as I gained in wisdom. As Bill Maurer stated, ???not all republicans are racists but most racists are republicans??? I tend to agree with this statement.
My grandmother (who was as far right as one could be) taught me that a good Christian supported his/her president during good times and bad and prayed for Gad to give him guidance. I wonder what she would say about those ???good Christians??? who hope President Obama fails so they can win back the Whitehouse.
Finally after being a state science consultant in a state whose far right board members repeated the statements of a radical Muslim who they welcomed to speak in their version of the ???Scopes Trial??? in that evolution was to blame for 911 and the far left members of the public who where just as silly in their statements, I am fed up with radicals from the far left and far right who twist the news and the truth to get what they want. Fortunately most of Americans are intelligent, moderates who base their decisions on the ???facts??? about specific issues and not a blanket truth woven by either the far left or right.
I was not a big fan (I was a Clinton fan) in voting for President Obama but I saw him as a better choice McCain and I was correct based on the way McCain has responded to the President???s leadership since he lost; but as my Granny taught me I will continue to pray for both the President and ALL members of Congress in the hope that they do what???s best for all Americans and not just those with deep pockets. Our future generations deserve that not negative rhetoric of a party that is out of touch with the needs of our youth!
Okay I wasn???t brief but God bless us all and God bless our future generations; because if politicians and those radicals on both sides that support them don???t change, they will need all God can give
So, where did you receive your logic? In a Cracker Jack box? Why have Canadians been coming to the United States for critical MRI and Cat Scan testing, paying out of pocket then returning to Canada with a copy of their films? I have personally performed exams in the US on the homeless, uninsured and illegals for over 22 years and YOU have the guts to say it sucks! We have the best healthcare in the world. Don't ruin a good thing. FACT, less than 10% of American citizens do not have health insurance. So you want to mess up the best healthcare in the world for 1 of 10 people? Secondly, everyone gets care - That is a FACT! Third, in England if your over 50 years old and need dialysis they turn you away. That means you DIE! Every social healthcare system in the world has and does fail so why would you want to copy a failed system? I am willing to go on national TV with my facts and present evidence to prove everything I have said. Can you top that?
As a 22 year healthcare worker this plan is total BS! They want to fix something that is not broken. less than 8% of the population does not have insurance for starters. So, lets screw up the best healthcare in the world for less than 10% of the population? I have personally performed CT's and MRI's on homeless non paying customers. Uninsured people receive care everyday. That is a FACT! And to top it off the senators and Congress will not even adapt their own plan for themselves. If it is so great then THEY should be the first in line. Secondly, we have not even come to the part where massive healthcare workers will be laid off, insurance companies that provide healthcare will fold and go bankrupt. We have the BEST healthcare in the world and they want to screw it up for less than 10% of the population? Vancouver BC has less than 5 MRI's to service over 3 million people. Over the last 20 years I have personally performed exams on Canadian citizens who pay CASH then take a copy of their films back to Canada for their doctors. If the Canadian system is so damn good why do they come to the United States for critical tests? Leave the DAMN system alone. The only true answer is to VOTE ALL DEMOCRATS OUT in the next election. I would be honored to go on public TV and tell my experience working in healthcare over the last 22 years. Just call me and we can talk. Thank you very much and God Bless American Healthcare!
All the comments I hear and read seem to miss some important points. Why should this reform be called Health Care Reform? Should'nt it be Medical Insurance Reform? After all Health Care is what we do for ourselves by exercising, eating a healthy diet an avoiding stress - there isn't much cost associated with any of these activities. No, I'm not some New Age discipile, I am a 75 year old healthy woman who has been on Medicare for the past 10 years and probably hasn't cost Medicare more than $ 100.00 in all that time. Why? Because I do ignore a lot of the hype that is trying to sell us pills, expensive tests, unnecessary surgeries, liposuction, cosmetic surgery, fertility treatments, etc. Many countries have a system of medical care that works for most of their citizens with better longevity and lower costs than we have so why are we once again listening to all the negative half-truths that are floating around out there? When someone is ill, they should have access to treatment, when they run up a lot of medical expenses to deal with imaginary symptoms or the effects of bad lifestyle choices, they need to educate themselves about alternatives to abusing the medical system.
