I don't know by exactly what means a school becomes listed as a "mega university", but it's still cool that UCLA made the list. GO BRUINS!!!!!

What's with the heavy East Coast bias? How about Stanford and Berkeley? U of Arizona in Tuscon? Reed College in Oregon? The world doesn't stop existing when you leave the original colonies. ; )

By far the best school in America is the University of Phoenix Online. I earned my Ph.D in less than 2 years, and I didn't even graduate high school, instead I received a GED. I also made some really good instant-messenger friends...instant-messenger friends that will last a lifetime!

The academics were not hard, which I thought was great. Now I have people refer me as "Dr." The heck with going to a real college, and getting a real college experience. Why do that, when you can live in the luxury of your parents home, while doing all of your classes online!!!

    Thank you University of Phoenix!

    Sincerely,
    Dr. Dan Albrecht, Ph.D, Sociology

This will be one super-biased reaction, concerning small liberal arts colleges in Maine. Bates is a good school no doubt. But Forbes puts Bowdoin in its Top 25 and Bates does not make the list. Anyone who has lived in Maine knows the relative quality of life merits of Auburn-Lewiston (Bates) vs. Bath-Brunswick (Bowdoin). And finally, comparison of average graduate salaries - Bowdoin grads do slightly better. Yes, I admit I am a Polar Bear...a graduate of Joshua Chamberlain's alma mater. The one whose name no one knows how to pronounce (say it like BO'-din with the accent on the Bo, as in bow and arrow).

This isn't the exact article in the Newsweek 'How to Get Into College 2008' publication, but for every public university Newsweek lists in their 25 Hottest Universities and 372 Most Interesting Schools, ONLY in-state/resident tuition costs are listed. This is incredibly misleading, as it's pretty impossible for one reader to be a resident of all 50 states at the same time. It's especially disappointing when a prospective student hears about the college of their dreams that is affordable to boot only upon visiting their website and realizing that no, it's actually $25,000 instead of $10,000.

As a Smithie myself, I was gratified to see Smith bestowed with the honor of "Hottest Women's Coolege." Before I read the article, I was betting that Wellesley, Hillary Clinton's alma mater, would be tapped with that title.

I wasn't surprised by Claremont McKenna's selection for hottest election college because CMC students have always been intensely political, but I was surprised to see Fordham as the hottest Catholic college. I did not know that the Catholic identity was that strong at Fordham. These are interesting portraits of the wide variety of colleges in America.

I am appreciating all the love for Jesuit schools (Boston College, Georgetown, Fordham), but man is this list coast-heavy...

It is refreshing to see schools talked about for something other than their sports teams. I wish more universities placed a higher emphasis on educating our kids instead of taking their money.
