I disagree completely with the first rule, against reading. It's nonsense, particularly since the quoted "expert" then says TV is less distracting than a book. I read at the gym because I enjoy it, and it's one of the few times during the week I have to read; this keeps me going to the gym and makes it a pleasant experience. So I continue to get regular exercise and stay healthy. I'm surprised the reporter didn't question the trainer about the quote that going to the gym is all about "pushing your body." It???s symptomatic of a warped attitude to ignore the many people who go to the gym to maintain their health and get regular exercise, not to do radical reshaping resulting in a gym-bunny physique.

I know not everyone's a gym freak, but since I got started, it took awhile for me to make the gym a part of my life. At first I went because I had to, and of course I was very conscientious of what I did and how I looked. With time and many visits, I now see the gym as a place that I should visit three times a week for two hour stretches. Things don't feel right unless I visit the place. Since I'm after fitness, I've enjoyed altering my diet to include ice cream, for breakfst, lunch, or dinner. The other benefits include sleeping like a baby and better time management.

Three 25 minutes sessions per week of high intensity interval training (HIIT) will result in great fat loss than three 60 minutes sessions of steady state treadmill exercise per week.

If one's goal is to lose weight, actually doing aerobics in the morning before breakfast can be a GOOD thing since one's body will be forced to burn fat for fuel. In this case, however, the period of exertion should be at least 30 minutes. Another approach to losing more weight is high intensity interval training. Doing at least three sessions of 25 minutes of HIIT will help shed more pounds in the same amount of time as an hour of steady state treadmill exercise.

Antoerh way to lose weight faster is high in

Hmm, sounds like alankent64 had a bad experience with treadmills. Perhaps your problem is with the gym environment and not so much the treadmill? Sure, there are people who do the things you mentioned; however, the treadmill can be an excellent tool for exercise, as missprbchild mentioned (props to you on your running accomplishments). If you have time to go to the gym, alankent64, you have time to leave it and exercise outside - or are your motives not as pure as you would have us asume? I think the golden rule applies here,

alanken64, bit of a treadmill snob, eh? As a mother of four with a home based business who is also training for a marathon, I have to do some of my training on a treadmill or else I don't get to run at all some days. Yes, sometimes I'm on it for 8-10 miles. If it's not real running, I probably wouldn't have finished in the top 10% at a recent half marathon and knocked a huge chunk of time of my prior best. Why do you care what others do?
