an alternative would require killing,imprisoning large swathes of men of all ages.. not practical,
considering that the overwhelming majority of muslim men are the way they are.

since when does al qaeda and osaba bin laden rep islam? last time i checked there is not central body of moslems like the catholic church. since when does osama bin laden and his cronies have any degrees on islam. last time i checked bin laden is an engineer and ayman al zzz is a doctor. newsweek is an ignorant magazine and this article shows the low level of journalism in our country.

True as we as a country are not totally behind the war. We are not in it our kids are and other good men and women but out of sight out of mind attitudes.

Why should we find the root causes of militant Islam? What is it that compels us to try to find absolute solutions? Why is it that we must find ways to conduct humane warfare? What is it about Western societies which compels us to proceed on the basis of the idea that civilization is it own self-evident success? Benign neglect may have outlived its usefulness, but militant neglect may not have. Yes, the war against Islamism is surely being won, even as it evolves from an attempt to smash militant Islam to a rather successful containment. Desist from improving Islam and Islamic societies; keep the Predators doing their work from far, far away, and learn to live with the sure knowledge that resentment and hate were there way before the Predators arrived on the scene.

Hard core liberals are quick to blame Americans and Westerners for the radical islamist problem, and have their lips locked around foreigners and their liberal ideal of multiculturalism and pluralism so tightly, that anyone who's causasian and speaks English might as well blow themselves up.... Open borders, increased immigration, heart-attack response to anything even remotely resembling "racial profiling", increased welfare and social services, multilingual government services; all of this flies in the face of national security as well as national pride and personal responsibility. Liberals will have none of that however, preferring "white guilt" over common sense....
