Actually, I think the fabric of American culture is falling apart. This has been going on for a long time. My estimate is that it started in the sixties and it hasn't stopped. Our young people have lost respect for authority and the institutions behind them. I don't know how much longer this can go on before everything collapses. Granted, the authorities have not done anything to garner our respect (i.e. Vietnam, Watergate, Iran-Contra).

not to say, these girls are in the right, but how can they punish them for pictures on the internet? i understand punishment for comments and behavior made on school property or to school officials. however, the only scenario i can think up for the picture punishment is that the pictures were taken on school property or they used school property to post the pictures on the internet. otherwise, it is the parents' responsibility to discipline their children. why is the school involved in the discipline of these girls in the non-school-related matters?

    • Posted By: mckinneydad1 @ 12/27/2007 10:19:38 PM

The kids are to represent the 'school' at all times. They knew what they were signing up for when they became cheerleaders etc...

      • Posted By: greenangel33 @ 03/20/2008 7:39:31 PM

they were in their cheerleading uniforms ... usually teams have some sort of constitution or bylaws that states what they can and cannot do in uniform... and being that these pics had some of them in uniform, im sure that was breaking some sort of rule by the school

        • Posted By: wvufootball08 @ 08/03/2008 9:43:16 PM

we always had really strict rules about what could be done in uniform, i know we had a football player who was benched for 2 games because he wearing his practice jersey when he was pulled over for speeding on the way to practice... coaches NEED to expect good conduct out of their athletes, because most of the community, including younger athletes, do recognize them

      • Posted By: greenangel33 @ 03/20/2008 7:43:41 PM

well some of the girls were in uniform in the pics ... i know from being on a dance team that you def have rules that you have to follow esp when in uniform ... things you can and cannot do. When representing your school, you should probably think about what your consequences of your actions can be before acting. Regardless, parents should control their kids. The school was allowed to step in probably because the behavior was overflowing into the school and not only that but in a uniform that represents the school image they also have the right to punish girls who tarnish it while in uniform.

This really makes me sad and angry the way you people talk about cheerleaders. Cheerleaders work very hard at what they do just like every other sport. It's not easy. And I know because I am one. We love what we do and we DO NOT do it to turn guys on. We do it because we enjoy it. Yes, we love being the center of attention but only because we work so hard to make our routines enjoyable and perfect. But, we enjoy the athletic part. And yes, it is VERY athletic. I'd like to see you guys do HALF the stuff we do. Just because we don't run up and down a court or a field does not mean we don't work our butts off. Another thing, there is nothing "bubble-headed" about us. Actually, everybody on my squad has at LEAST a B average. We are all very intellegent and have big plans for the future. That is nothing but a false stereotype.
And to "mfenwick", yes, we can shake our hips and dance. But it's really not up to us if we do that or how we do that. It's the coreoghrapher. I've never known of a cheerleader to make up their own squad's dances before. And we don't bully. That's the craziest thing i've ever heard. Kids that have no extra activities after school bully more than cheerleaders, but you don't pick on them. And at most ALL schools, if anyone on a sports team acted in such a manor, they would have been immediately thrown off. I know at my school if you are even at a party and NOT EVEN DRINKING you will be kicked off. No second chances.
Not many people understand the ration of crap cheerleaders get. I know at my school we honestly get treated like we're nothing. We are watched very closely and people judge every little thing we do. It's not really fair to us because all teenagers are doing the same things we do. We just get noticed more because we have a UNIFORM to wear and we perform routines that get people's attention. So, I don't really think this will help change your opinion that much, but I do hope you get something out of it, coming from an actual cheerleader.

    • Posted By: mfenwick @ 08/03/2008 12:23:31 AM

Please stop lying to yourself! Cheerleaders can do their stunts in sweatpants just as easily as they can in skimpy uniforms. They choose the short skirts because they get to show off a little (or alot) of legs and thighs. I have never said there was anything wrong or demeaning about cheerleading; only that it is a highly sexual sport. Girls can be teasers, pole dancers, strippers, and athletes all at the same time. Don't tell me you don't have a choice to refuse to take part in dance routines you or your parents consider inappropriate! I know better. The choreographer is not your boss. You girls never refuse a chance to show the audience your stuff because on the court or on the field you can get by with it. As for the bullying, girls
are more subtle than boys. A certain wry smile, rolling of the eyes, or a turning up of the nose all are forms of bullying girls use to say to other girls that they think they are better.

      • Posted By: wvufootball08 @ 08/03/2008 9:23:48 PM

Just out of curiosity, do you consider gymnasts teasers and pole dancers? Because they wear even less than cheerleaders. Granted, the the type of cheerleaders who make up this kind of story are usually of the the "parade in a skirt and show myself even though I couldn't do a cartwheel or toe-touch to save my life" variety, but there are actual ATHLETES who do this sport, and excel in it, simply for the gymnastics and stunting involved--which for the record is actually very difficult and potentially dangerous to do in baggy pants.

Noone knows the real story and it makes me sick that all of us on the cheerleading squad cant tell it. The movie shows our former cheerleaders being excited and celeb crazed about being on the news when really I saw each one in tears embarressed that our white trash cheerleading coach had taken her problems with the administration out on these girls because she knew that her story would never make headlines into the media unless she brought this "scandelous" story with her. Countless times she says to the media that its not about these girls its just about the administration..but why would she even bring everything into the media that she did then. Maybe because shes banking off out this story. Did anyone know that each show in new york including good morning america inside edition the view and more offered each girl 20,000 to come? I'm sure you didn't. Maybe they should have taken it if they could tell the other side of the story that the media doesnt care about so all of you worthless people would stop talking about them.

    • Posted By: socal2720 @ 08/03/2008 9:19:36 PM

Sounds like the coach is not the only white trash at the school, cheerleaders, parents, principal, and many others.

WHITE TRASH COACH, TYPICAL LANGUAGE FROM SLUTTY CHEERLEADERS

  • Posted By: Luv2bblonde @ 08/03/2008 9:08:57 PM

Too bad the cheerleaders make it look bad forTexas........a great state in my opinion with some great people. Unlike the rampid of hateful people where I reside. Texas is looking better to me every day, I miss my friens there and want to see them badly.

These girls behavior was out of line, but don't let that ruin you opinion of Texas, especially Houston, which I love, Steve I hope to se you soon back in Houston......keep in touch, I will be back. There is nothing here for me anymore back home. Love ya!

As a teacher I see this - perhaps not quite this extreme - all the time. Parents are too busy trying to make sure that their children get everything they want and never have to face consequences; and administrators who are scared to death of standing up to parents or that dreaded call from central office. I am ashamed of my generation for raising our children this way. All I can say is, keep building those prisons because we are going to need them as so many of these kids know no boundaries and are ultimately doomed to learn the hard way - behind bars.

  • Posted By: cheerleaderssuck @ 08/03/2008 8:22:24 PM

All these little girls needed was a serious butt whooping. I hope they get whats coming to them in college. I bet they'll end up in a double wide with 12 kids running around in about 15 years. It's not like they'll do anything with their lives anyway.

There is no mistake that Texas cheerleading has had scandals repeatedly. It is based on the fact that Texas gives their whole to becoming a cheerleader and to football. Both activites get a break when it comes to discipline. This is possibly another extreme example, but having grown up in Texas it is not that far out of left field. Cheerleaders are often treated like godesses in schools and given all sorts of priviledges that others are not. The same went in our school for football players (which included my younger brother). Our society doesn't need to "move on" we as americans need to focus on what we teach our children. What values we give them. That comes from worrying about gas prices and doing something to rejecting men like the "girls gone wild" producer who is celebrated, but has had more stints in jail for his behavior and for using underage girls knowingly. As a family attorney all grown up: I say fix what is going on at home and stop worrying about the problems of other countries.

  • Posted By: prettynpink09 @ 08/03/2008 4:58:34 PM

i know that this was a serious matter, but i dont want this scandal to give a bad name to all texas cheerleaders. i cant even imagine what the consequences would have been at my school. i am a senior cheerleader in a small town in texas, just for the record our squad has never had this happen. and i totally agree that these girls and everyone in the scandal deserved punishment. but i am just wanting to stand up and say that not all texas cheerleaders are like that or anyhwere near that for that matter...

  • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 08/03/2008 2:02:14 PM

The date on this story is January, 2007 - 18 months ago. The price of gas was $2.35/gallon.

    Move on, people.

As a current school teacher with 15 years experience in 3 districts (not to mention a former highschool cheerleader of the 80's)-what went on in the movie goes on in many districts. The circumstances may be a little different as well as the location, BUT, it has always been and always will be about "who you know". It is not fair, something should be done. If someone has a solution, let him/her share it. Face it adults, we still deal with it now--how many people are overlooked or under-promoted or mistreated because they don't have a "connection" with the boss, employer, etc. There is "unwritten social ranking/ruling" everywhere. Ask any experienced kindergarten teacher and she/he will tell you- you can look at a class and pick out the prom queen, football captain, and school nerd when they are only 5! Does it make okay??? NO.

To ShaneJ_2216 this is what you call a classic example of why white people do not discipline their children because if that was my child you darn tootin right I'll have her removed and she will be disciplined. That's why white people complain when their kids run wild they have no structure in the home. The principal should have lost her job since she is a shinning example of parent that should have been about handling buisness at home and not allowing her child to run wild. Where I came from you got a foot in your a** if you were caught doing what these girls did it wasnt happening in my mom's house or any other house for that matter. It should be handled by the parents, but also with school officials as well because parents and school administrators have a responsibility to uphold. Perfection has nothing to do with the lack of discipline and guidance it's the fact that the behavior of these girls is inexcusable and should be handled accordingly and the mother who was the principal is being made an example of when you abuse your position over running a school. Seeing you mentioned that several girls you graduated with showed up on the Girls Gone Wild videos clearly says that white people have no control over their kids because in a black and hispanic house your a** got tore the heck up if you ever did something like show yourself on tape and doing weird and disgusting behavior. You need to get a life.

    • Posted By: HJJ1976 @ 08/03/2008 1:49:19 AM

Your comments are unfounded. Maybe where you live this is the case, but let me tell you. I live in an area where if you are white you are a minority. There are more hispanics, blacks, some asians, indians, native americans, and more. With that said, this issue is color-blind. When I was in high school this type of behavior was not tollerated. It seems there is a problem both within the schools, the community, and the home which has lead to kids of all races to act out. Some join gangs, some become sexually active, some become bullies. In any case, this behavior is out of control and as the attorney metioned, it is the adults job to be adults. When these kids get no discipline, their behavior only gets worse. They feel as if they can do anything they want because no one seems to want to do anything about it. It is NOT okay for these kids to behave this way, but it is even worse that these kids have no one in their life who seem to care enough to do something about it. Thank goodness in this particular situation there was a teacher who decided to have a voice. I just hope these girls mature enough to realize just how lucky they are that someone cared enough to prevent them from doing even more damage to themselves and those around them.

What the heck??? You're darn tootin you're head must be up your ***! "white people?"
"WHITE PEOPLE?" Where the heck did you come from?? Lord help any and all of the Queenbees in this wonderful and educated Nation who are apparently properly disciplining their children while breeding with extreme ignorance. For the sake of your children and the children of those who are stuck in the messed up world views you possess... Love, Morals, Decency, Kindness, and Good Values are so color-blind that it's not funny... It's too bad you'll never feel that True, Unconditional Love for ALL beings. So SAD that my well disciplined, happy, respectful "white" children are still going to run into the ignorance of people like you because you can't find it in your heart to teach your own children to be open and kind to all of the many different people that congregate in this beautiful nation.

Queenbee75 I hope you reply to the comments you are receiving back because you made some really ignorant statements.
Have you ever seen a Girls Gone Wild Video--- there are women of ALL races and colors!!!! What do you have to say about that? It is not just us 'white folks'!
Have you ever seen the Mckinney HS cheerleading squad? Guess what- It is a diverse group- not just whitees!!!!!! Sooooooo rethink what you originally put and think hard next time before you post something so you do not sound so ignorant.

    • Posted By: marsimms @ 12/26/2007 9:02:41 PM

When you make generalizations based on race, it makes you sound ignorant. It's similar to someone saying that most black and hispanic males are criminals. Don't make generalizations. I took many a wooden spoon to my butt when I was young.

      • Posted By: Snivet @ 12/27/2007 2:25:16 AM

I live in Southern California and there is no way you are telling me that there are no black or latina girls acting EXACTLY like this every day! Adults not holding kids to standards and lawyers saying kids can do whatever they want are at the root of the problem. And OH YES non-white girls get away with a great deal of bad behavior because of their skin color because people are afraid they will be called racist for correcting them, or get sued. ALL kids who act crazy like these girls should be in big trouble from all sides in the community. That's just good parenting and has no skin color associated with it!

        • Posted By: sstachur @ 12/27/2007 1:59:29 PM

My mother is a high school guidance counselor and she sees black and hispanic students with just the same problems as the white kids in this regard. So what if you got beat for doing these things? All that means is, the kids will get better at hiding it. The majority of my mother students who end up pregnant are those who can't have an open, honest converstation with their parents about sex , contracpetives, or anthing else going on in their lives. Beating your kids for every wrongdoing is not going to keep them from doing bad things, it will just make them better liars. And a big AMEN to marsimms and Snivet!!

If any of my daughters ever acted like these spoiled brats thay would have been in military school. there parents should all be so proud of these girls.

  • Posted By: srf23 @ 08/03/2008 1:21:59 AM

yeah i totally agree. This really makes me mad to hear about something like this. Kids get away with anything these days... and if parents would actually diciplin them ,,,, we would have less crimes commited in this world. I swear i wanted to beat those girls up when i saw that movie,,,, and to think it actually happend makes me sooo pissed.

  • Posted By: srf23 @ 08/03/2008 1:19:34 AM

Yeah I also agree with the comment below me. Its not only the parents fault, but its also the school. I couldnt believe what I saw when I watched that movie on Lifetime. I was soo pissed the whole way through and to only find out that it was a true story. I mean what was the school and the parents of these girls thinking. I mean seriously... This just made me realize that some parents can't control these kids. and to think they got away with it really pisses me off. Im so glad that someone actually had the guts to speak out about that problem. Its amazing to think what kids are getting away with these days, and thier parents/.... dont give a crap, and even if they do....... they are too afriad to do anything about it.

  • Posted By: woody7820 @ 08/03/2008 1:18:47 AM

I just got through watching their tv movie and then reading about their acts on line. Never have I seen or read about these kind of actions. Where were their parents. Children learn from home then school. Undoubtly their parents have no morals. This kind of behavior is totally uncalled for. The principal must have really been a moron and I glad she was removed.

The Fab Five should have been taken behind the wood shed when it first started and given a dose of the Board of Education to the point where they couldn't sit down for a week.

    • Posted By: rickrow1 @ 08/02/2008 7:33:49 PM

I fully agree but unfortunately nowadays the law has taken all of the rights away from the parents and the children know it. I have never understood why the schools are allowed to use corporal punishment with a paddle but if the parents try the same thing they can be put in jail. There is something grossly wrong and twisted about that and the children take advantage of it. That is what is wrong with children these days.

      • Posted By: cadsmania21 @ 08/03/2008 12:24:40 AM

dont worry just send them to Jamaica, although they are trying to cut out corporal punishment here, teachers and parents still give unruly children a good whopping.

  • Posted By: omnytamer @ 08/03/2008 12:23:43 AM

I'm a recent High school graduate. Granted, the athletes at my school wouldn't have gotten away with this, but any athlete, not just cheerleaders always got away with a lot more than non-athletes. For instance, induction to Beta Club requires a 3.0 GPA and satisfactory moral conduct. I knew a kid who was an athlete (football) who had a 2.2, was one point away from failing a whole grade, and had one teacher, my father, fill out his teacher evaluation for induction saying he had been caught cheating on his test twice! He was inducted his first try. I also knew a kid with a 3.5 and was going on to Bible college as a preacher, but wasn't an athlete. He was overlooked all six years that he was eligible even though he asked the sponsor and she turned him down. I personally knew all the Beta club members, of which, I only knew two out of the couple of hundred members who were not athletes. I could give more stories, but I might overshoot the alloted space.

i guess it's a good thing i'm not a teacher to these kinds of kids. let one flip me off, they'd be missing a middle finger. and it would be shoved up their nose. and, i'd dare the admin or the parent to cross me on it. conversely, if MY kid flipped a teacher off i would expect to be in the ER trying to re-attach a finger. and i would be beating my kid's butt the whole way there. in summary, BE AN ADULT, BE THE PARENT. THE KIDS CRAVE IT< THEY'RE DYING FOR IT. literally.

    • Posted By: cadsmania21 @ 08/03/2008 12:17:27 AM

i certainly agree with you but the society doesnt allow you to do that. i think the cops would be on your tail, LOL!!! but these kids need some good beating though. im sure wen i have kids they wouldnt even think of being disrespectful. where im from(Jamaica) wen i was younger and attending elementary if you said foul words the teacher would wash your mouth out with soap and water then beat you (corporal punishment) now the authorities are cutting out that form of punishment. its kinda harsh but then if all things fail you could count on this kinda punishment as being good for instilling discipline, belive me i had my fair share.LOL

  • Posted By: mel1429 @ 08/03/2008 12:14:30 AM

Please, these girls are just awful. The parents who raised them should be ashamed of themselves. I have a teen son and a young daughter...believe me I know teens will get into trouble but what I watched tonight on TV. was total disrespect. I never make excuses for my children...if they misbehave then they need to know there is a consequence. That they are to always respect teachers & adults. I would be so ashamed if that was one of my children on TV. tonight in the movie. I am so proud of the coach for fighting back and not refusing to give up. Maybe these girls would have more respect for things if their parents would actually take the time and teach them right from wrong...and not let them parade around like five ******* or sluts. If I was one of those parents I would be selling my house right now or even looking into a boarding or military school.
Let???s just hope it stops here...and the problems don't go in the future to when they have children. I cannot get over a school treating there little brats better then there teachers...this is why I could never be a teacher, who in their right mind would let a teenage run their lives. This whole school district should be fired and start over with new people who don't back down to threats or who knows who. THESE PARENTS NEED TO GROW SOME ****!!!!!!
