I have news for you...not all squads are allowed to run rampant. My daughter cheers in high school in Texas. She was given a set of rules before tryouts and one of those rules is that when in AND out of uniform you are representing the school and ANYTHING you are caught doing is open for punishment. If they also had a set of rules like we have...the school has EVERY right to punish!

A few years ago there was a party after the homecoming game and those athletes who got 'minor in possession' tickets were made to run 50 miles before they were allowed to play any games. That running was in addition to regular practices.

The cheerleaders at our school are in the forefront of the student body and community. Our sponsor has no problems with discipline and does not cow down to parents. Neither does our principal, whose oldest daughter is also on the squad. I hope people realize this is NOT the norm for cheer squads in Texas. Don't get me wrong, girls are mean and can do some really cruel things to each other. The rudeness and cruelty is what should be dealt with not just because they are cheerleaders.

This entire fiasco boils down to one "at-fault" party: THE PARENTS!!!! And aren't they setting a fine example for their children by denying their responsibility in this? Three cheers for the parents of the "Fab Five".......

They (the Fab Five) should have been taken out behind the wood shed to meet the Board of Education (in other words give them a good beating) to the point that they would not be able to sit down for a week. If CPS complains, then take them and hand them over and say "Here you take care of the problem".

These girls are old enough to know better but young enough to still be too stupid to stop their behavior. Most would say this is where the parents should step in. They will all be pregnant by the time they graduate lol

Future country club Republicans...who will get 'Born again' publicly and continue the mayhem under the radar, all the while condemning others 'moral failures'.... seriously, I'd be curious to see how they vote in ten years...

This seems like yet another example of this generation that expects, even demands, life without personal and social responsibility. Granted, their parents and the school seemed to encourage such behavior by not bringing about consequences. The teens are quickly approaching 18 when they have no one to blame but themselves - poor background, poor education, it doesn't matter. Without taking personal responsibility, there are serious implications. It's time to stop looking for someone else to blame and look inward.

oh and let me add, this happeneds everyday. Its stupid that they are making a movie about something that alot of people do when they are in high school. belive it or not all high school will EVER be about is Sex, Drugs, Liqour. Sorry to say but that will never change. EVER. so get used to it. Raise your kids better.

First things first I believe that the school firing the mother was great. Anyone who will allow their daughter to act up like they do (drinking, exposing themselves online) shouldn't be a Principle at ANY school. I would much rather home school my child then allow some IDIOT who cant control their own kid have any authority over my child if she doesn't have any AUTHORITY over her own! Second thing no one is Stereotyping anything these kids have crossed the line way to many times and honestly it's about darn time someone did something about it. And about making this a big deal?? IT IS WHEN YOU'VE GOTTEN AWAY WITH IT MORE TIMES THAN ANYONE ELSE IN THE SCHOOL. These girls had so many chances to change their attitudes but do they? NO. So for you to act like it's NO BIG DEAL shame on you...when in school..you would notice that if it was anyone else doing the same stunts they would be either in In School Suspension (if the school as that program) or Expelled. I have never seen a student get just slapped on the hand for being on the phone and telling their teacher to Shut Up. My school they did paddlings...maybe that is what the school should think about if they dont already have it. If the parents disagree with that they maybe they need to finally step their butts up and start regaining control over their d%$^& children. Me being a mother myself I would be outraged if I knew my daughter's Principle was allowing stupid stuff like this go on. I would much rather home school then allow my daughter to attend that school! If what I said offends anyone..too darn bad. I feel this way because I'm a mother..and I would never allow my daughter to act up in this manner...No Good parent would.

What I dont understand is how some of you people act like this isn't a big deal. No they shouldn't be a national scandal but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be punished. These sound like hardheaded children who do need to be punished for their actions. If some kid told me to shut up while I was teaching...in the back of my mind I would be wanting to knock their teeth to the back of their throat. Me being a mother as well I wouldn't tolerate that sort of behavior. They should have been expelled for the crap that they pulled. Why would people allow stupid stuff like this to go on because they're CHEERLEADERS when other kids are doing the same stuff and are getting punished far worse...I say..what would you allow your children to do...I sure in H&#$ would not allow my daughter to pull such stunts. And posting revealing pictures well..I will not go into full detail on what I think about that...but what I will say is..when they're older...they will regret doing all the stunts that they've pulled.

It is unfortunate that a sense of entitlement and bad parenting have affected the lives of these girls. Lucky for them their ignorant parents will continue to dismiss their inappropriate and unkind behavior. I guess the only true bright side of this situation is that unlike delinquent children of middle and lower class families at least the girls' destructive behavior will be paid for by their idiot parents instead of tax payers.

this happens EVERYWHERE this is not uncommon
i dont see how it is a big deal kids will do it if they want
it doesnt mean it is right
but the school had no reason to punish
them for drinking in there own home
that is bs and they had no right with the condom
store either the last i remember they hand out comndoms
    in schools
and now they are making a movie about this
if i was one of those girls id be
happy b/c they are getting all kinds
f fame for something high school
    kids do everyday !

Oh, and i want to add that everyone who is talking about this as if every cheerleader is like this well: YOU ARE WRONG. This is stereotyping and wrong, what if these girls happened to be basketball players or even academic decathlon students? Because a few cheerleaders acted up, you all are acting like being a cheerleader means that you are a horrible, rude, & stupid person, as a matter of fact, our head cheerleader happens to have a 4.4 GPA so stop stereotyping!

I understand that what these girls did was wrong but I don't see why this is "a national scandal." Do people really think that the "Fab Five" are the only girls that take pictures that are a little inappropriate? Or are they the only teenagers that drink on homecoming? Or are they even the only teenagers that talk back to teachers? NO. There are girls & guys like this in every school. They should have been punished but I really don't see why this story made headlines.

What these girls did was an absolute appalling act. Jones was compeletly right in his conclusion of the girls. Principal Theret should be ashamed for not taking the appropriate actions towards punnishing them. She has issues even controling her own daughter, so why would anyone in their right mind have put her in charge of children who aren't even hers? The fact that she was principal should have come first. She should have taking the correct punnishments for these girls even if one of them was her own daughter. If she were my daughter I would have doubled the punnishment of all the other girls.

  • Posted By: xxfussionxx @ 07/27/2008 6:51:48 PM

Wow these "Fab Five" must really have some nerve. Uhhh yes they were behaving just like Jones discribed them. And just because one of their mothers was the principal shouldn't have given them the right to continue their reckless behavior.

I am completely appalled that these girls got away with any of these antics without consequences from the very beginning. They should have been removed from the squad immediately and suspended possible expulsion for a year. I know that the school my daughter attends would not have tolerated this lude and disrespectable behavior in any way. These girls and their families seem to need counseling along with Theret and her daughter. Shame on them!

Not only is this a disgusting illustration of behaviour, I can only say the parent and principal MOM is worse than her daughter. Why would the school district ever recommend this lady to a principal anywere else. I hope the schools in this country are definitely investigating before the allow her to be in charge of any other school or even teach in one. If you cannot control your own child's behaviour then you certainly do not need the responsibility for anyone elses.

The worst part is the fact the TV is making a movie for these girls and giving them more fame so they can continue being the same selfish girls.

This is why the children of educators should not attend the school of their employment. It is a conflict of interest if their children should get into trouble. If they were attending somewhere else, things might not have gotten out of hand.

This is why goth kids hate cheerleaders. they stand for everything we hate, and they practically get away with murder.
