I have news for you...not all squads are allowed to run rampant. My daughter cheers in high school in Texas. She was given a set of rules before tryouts and one of those rules is that when in AND out of uniform you are representing the school and ANYTHING you are caught doing is open for punishment. If they also had a set of rules like we have...the school has EVERY right to punish!
A few years ago there was a party after the homecoming game and those athletes who got 'minor in possession' tickets were made to run 50 miles before they were allowed to play any games. That running was in addition to regular practices.
The cheerleaders at our school are in the forefront of the student body and community. Our sponsor has no problems with discipline and does not cow down to parents. Neither does our principal, whose oldest daughter is also on the squad. I hope people realize this is NOT the norm for cheer squads in Texas. Don't get me wrong, girls are mean and can do some really cruel things to each other. The rudeness and cruelty is what should be dealt with not just because they are cheerleaders.
