This is why Goth kids hate Cheerleaders. They stand for everything we hate, and they get away with murder.

Lets be honest. Yes, these girls don't exactly show the perfect example and they are definitely not someone i would want my daughters looking up to, but things like this go on in every school. I'm 16, and I know for a fact. You may underestimate me because I'm only a teen, but we know more than what the older generation gives us credit for. Before I read this story I expected something worse to be the subject of the article. I am, to be quite honest, surprised over the suspension and punishment the 5 girls received. I understand how they could get in trouble for being in there school uniforms, but kids drink, talk back to teachers, and take racy pictures EVERY single day in my town. And I live in a very small, conservative town. Believe me, there are worse things going on the world and in high schools daily that we should worry more about.

In response to this comment I would like to reply that "worse things" are going on in the world due to the total lack of self respect for ones self and others that starts in the home and in our schools. If everyone chose to be respectful people our world would not be in this incredible mess. I don't understand why some parents and teachers decided to be afraid of children or why they condone this type of behavior. What does that say about your own personal character? I am a mental health nurse that sees the results of this type of behavior every day. Once again, these "worse things" are a result of how each and every person chooses to live their own personal life. These cheerleaders and other young people like them are
the seeds that this world has grown into. Take responsibility!

Young lady I am not that much older than you, however, what happens to you when you are in high school carries with you through the rest of your life. You may not believe that but it does. You are shaping your emotional psyche right now. These girls and their behavior is UNACCEPTABLE! Are these women you would want to answer to in the future
as a boss...a civic leader...or as a person of any responsibility?

I am a mother of two teen~age girls and personally I am appalled by the behavior of these 5 teens. There punishment 15 days suspension, in fairness they should have been expelled. I to live in a rather small town where both of my daughters are cheer~leaders and I as a mother would never condone or allow my daughters to act, speak or purposely disrespect anyone. I in no way am naive to what is going on around me and my daughters do normal teenage things but they also have boundaries that they know not to cross. I punish them as I see fit and in the same instance I tell them I love them but it doesn't mean that I have to like them all the time. I on the other hand remind them I am there MOTHER, I am not there friend and I will not be talked to in any disrespectful manner, whether it be from an adult let alone take it from a child who still relies on mommy for support. These 5 girls are a disgrace and they all should be ashamed and it's the parents that should have taken control immediately and I am not all that shocked that they the 5 girls as well as there parents are out of control. My final grace I can finish making dinner for my family tonight and afterwards we will watch a movie and I have the luxury of telling them good night and laying my head down on a soft pillow where I can say my prayers and thank God that my daughters are not all caught up in that mess. Just as I pray for my family and friends, these 5 girls and there parents will be in my prayers as well. I can only hope and pray that they have learned a lesson from all of this mess and move on. Growing up comes with rules and with rules comes responsibility and with responsibility comes with actions, and for every action taken there will be an equal if not harsher reaction. I feel sorry for those girls and there families, such a pity that due to there behavior and there lack of parental guidance and no repercussion that these 5 girls are going to be what shapes today's youth. Sadly that is a shame.

One more comment, If you should read this, I applaud you Mrs. Ward, I praise you for your bravery, persistence and belief, what you did took courage and one can only hope that the parents take a lesson from you. You should be proud of yourself, now maybe if there were more teachers out there like you, are children of tomorrow will be better educated and prepared for the years to come.

The point isn't whether or not this goes on in every school or not. The point is that these girls got preferential treatment because of who they were. Their behavior was wrong and they should not have gotten chance after chance after chance. They should have been put off the team long before they were and suffered the same sort of punishment for their other indescretions just like any of the other students not related to the principal would have been

Biblical assertions, this-happens-everywhere excuses aside, there is one undeniable fact here: this is wrong. Just wrong. Wouldn't matter if it happened at every single other high school in our nation, or the world. Wrong is wrong. I would suggest that reporters, parents, anyone connected to this - but certainly those in a position of authority - don't even waste your time: get anyone who acts like this a muzzle and straightjacket, lock 'em up and let 'em rot.

When i heard about this story i thought it was a way bigger thing than what i read about. Not that what they did is in any way acceptable because it deff. isnt but i thought these girls like beat people up and like killed someone from the way it was so overly discussed. These girls dont show a great example either of how people should act.Whether you have money or not these girls shouldnt be able to run around like they own the school.Thats when the parents need to grow up and stop being so afraid of their children and start being the parent instead of letting their children run their lives as well.

some people say that girls will be girls but this is an outrage this is a disgrace to women world wide i don't feel like kicking them off of the squad is necessary if they want to be slutty let them be it is them who will have to explain to their children in the future why mommy is thought of as a slut and the parents of the teens are the ones to blame because face it we all know that discipline starts at home regardless of what goes on in school a child that has been taught to act like a woman knows the consequences if she dose not act like one in the streets

  • Posted By: bmode22 @ 07/21/2008 8:14:13 PM

some say girls will be girls but this is a disgrace to woman hood world wide but what can you expect from a bunch of immature pretty white girls with a little power in their hands Paris Hilton that Logan girl are prime examples

  • Posted By: HawkeyeP74 @ 07/15/2008 4:27:52 AM

All I have to say about the entire thing is very simple. This is what happens when a permissive PC culture is allowed to make everything out to be as if you should already have it and not earn it. Those girls were given freedom they did not deserve and this is how they used it. I would not be surprised if the colleges they are attending now pretty much have them under near Department of Homeland Security-level scrutiny all year when they attend.. but then.. they earned that themselves.. didn't they???

In reading any set of instructions, such as....."Take hammer and strike...." One assumes that anyone with enough sense to read, would not follow said instructions by smashing their own kneecap. The bible doesn't ask you to follow a dream's instructions.Neither did God speak to Abraham in a dream in the Genesis 22 passage that you mention. The bible does give great instructions for loving and raising children without aid of psychotherapist or ritalin. How is your wonderful brain doing at that? It seems obvious that the parents of these kids need some guidance. You seem to know a great deal. Perhaps you could instruct them in how to impart to these young women some appreciation of character. With your help, who knows? They may even get a life.

I read the bible... but then I had a dream that I should sacrifice my son on a mountaintop...I hiked up to the top, was about to do it...and...nobody told me to stop! Luckily I had a brain and rely on that now.

  • Posted By: ericdrexil @ 07/08/2008 6:35:54 PM

How do we raise kids? Hum... lets see...(1) Give them everything they want.....That alone should kill most people. (2) Allow them to live without any meaningful work or responsibilities.......sort of like being in congress. (3) Make sure that they have unlimited use of the internet and modern media, from the cradle on....If they can't learn something about morals from tv then where can they. (4) You could live a life with them and show them love. At the same time you could take them to church and live out the gospel. You could love your neighbor and reverence the bible.......Nah....just keep doing what you're doing. It's sure to work out.

I commend these people for finally doing something. In way too many cases these days, teenagers are allowed to run free with little to no supervision or parenting and this is simply unacceptable. To assume that a 13 to 16 year old can make all the right decisions in life without guidence is assinine. I am certainly not saying that teenagers are unintelligent (far from it) however, parents need to realize that there is still more parenting to be done at that age. I have seen way too many kids that run their parents' lives and homes and its just sad that these adults have handed over parenting and decision making to their children. Its time for parents to be parents again. I hope this teaches these parents a lesson so that they can see the horrible job they are doing of raising their own children.

I go to high school and if anyone thinks this is some rare thing, think again. It happens everywhere. The only thing rare about this situation is the mother/principal. Glad she got fired.

I'm not saying this behavior is acceptable. I'm just saying it is done CONSTANTLY, at 99% of the schools in America. The only difference is they don't have a principal enabling them, and they usually don't get this much attention.

Drinking? It's not good, but here's the truth, teenagers drink. It's happened before, it's happening now, it's going to happen again. I don't think any parent should throw alcohol at their children, but they should be aware that their teen is/has most likely experimented with alcoholic beverages or will in the future.

Pictures? The only reason these girls got in trouble was because they were in uniform. I have a MySpace, and almost all of my peers have at least one picture that would be considered 'promiscuous' or ???innapropriate??? in some format. From the innocent, shy types to the hardcore party girls.

Backtalk? I hear it in almost every one of my classes. Some teachers put up with it, some don't. Some report it, some administer their own discipline.

Cheerleaders? I'm assuming these girls got away with more simply because they lived in Texas, which sounds judgmental, but it's simply because down South cheerleading is an All-American girl sport. She cheerleads- she's perfect, she's a role model, she's living up to everyone's expectations. She's done so much to make us proud, who cares if she's a little rude sometimes? I don't agree with this philosophy, but it seems a lot of parents I've known do. Not to say all cheerleaders are like this, of course. But be real- since everyone is proud of their accomplishment, they let them get away with more. They are usually more spoilt.

As for the girls in general, I know girls like this at my school. The only difference is there isn't as much school officials enabling them so they know that they have SOME limits. But if they had a principal like this, then I have no doubt they'd end up exactly the same as the 'Fab Five'. They aren't special, they aren't unique. They're just a clique of *** who thought they were invincible. It happens.

And all you parents out there saying how you can't believe these children, and your children would never do something like this, half of you have no idea what your kids are doing. I'm not saying you are all bad parents, but don't think your teenagers are perfect saints, please. Just don't be naive, don't be in denial. You'd be surprised how many parents brag about knowing their children in and out, and in reality only know 1/3 of their lives.

Wisconsin's unique landmarks once again find themselves in the pages of the latest novel to be presented to readers of history, thrillers and religion in a work that combines all three genres into an adventurous global conspiracy.

The Epoch Point, just released on May 1 and written by Wisconsin native Spencer Zimmerman, is a fictional novel that includes historical facts, certain to intrigue history buffs who are interested in history from the local to the international level, especially as that history thrillingly plays out into what Zimmerman describes as a worldwide "conflict between God and the devil, good and evil."

According to the book's synopsis, the lead character, Robert Davis, is "a young Airman fresh out of Air Force basic training," reflective of Zimmerman's own recent service in the Air Force. "After being held captive in China, (Davis) suddenly finds himself unraveling the most immense conspiracy in history...soon uncovering hidden facts suggesting Russian and Iraqi involvement...discovering the diary of Lee Harvey Oswald...As the clues surface, an evil emerges powerful enough to rewrite the entire history of humanity...before long the conspiracy takes on a supernatural form, marked by [natural disasters] and the wrath of God...Nothing [prepares] (Davis) for the final suspenseful twist the story takes, a da Vinci style revelation that reaffirms his belief in Christ."

  • Posted By: The_epoch_point @ 07/05/2008 10:26:02 PM

Zimmerman, having lived in several locations around Wisconsin, including near Lake Mills and Watertown, incorporated Wisconsin locations and history into his novel, among them a Viking cathedral on Washington Island and the events surrounding Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy. Also mentioned is a small village outside of Burlington, Wisconsin, founded by a Mormon religious leader who proclaimed himself king, the only monarchy to ever occur in the forty-eight continental states in American history. Among the other Wisconsin landmarks in The Epoch Point, and most notably, the famous national landmark Aztalan is discussed at length.

Zimmerman's discussion of Aztalan in his book in part follows what Zimmerman calls the "darker" side of Aztalan, including its cannibalism and religious practices, and the instantaneous disappearance of its thriving population. Zimmerman's writing also seeks to make connections between Aztalan's existence with that of the Minoan civilization from Ancient Greece and Zoroastrian culture of the Middle East. All three peoples had similar beliefs, worshipped fire (one of Aztalan's mounds is believed to have been the abode of an "eternal" flame) and practiced human sacrifice and cannibalism.

Zimmerman noted all of these "obscure (historical) connections," which ultimately inspired him to take the connections and formulate them into an adventurous plot. Writing his book took roughly two years.

The book's chapters are titled after the sixty-six books of the Bible, and the plot progresses as Davis reads through each chapter of the Bible, opening the Bible for the first time in chapter one of The Epoch Point. Each chapter follows a "flashback" style in structure, in which the book's characters experience revelations of historical events and experiences from 4000 B.C. to the present, which allow them to observe how those events contributed to the global conspiracy they are presently confronting. Zimmerman states that the book's events begin on New Year's Eve of 2000, and end on Christmas of 2006.

While writing novels remains at present a hobby for Zimmerman, he already has ideas for a second novel that he anticipates will follow a more scientific fiction path. The Epoch Point is currently available through Amazon.com, and Zimmerman is hoping to get copies of the book into some of Lake Mills's downtown novelty shops.

How exactly is this Newsweek-caliber news? So some teens acted up. Big News! Some teens wore bikini's, and then took photos? Scandal! Wait, some teens said something rude? Call Barbara Walters! Oh, forgot, there was one crime - some teens allegedly drank at Prom! While illegal, I still wonder how this makes the news? Some person in power had a connection to a teen acting up, and so the teen got some preferential treatment for acting rude - shame on you Newsweek - aren't there other people in power with connections that abuse them that we should be a little more worried about? Like every politician ever? Listen up Newsweek - how about you just quit with the grandstanding ignorant headlines and give us some important news instead. Just a thought.

These young ladies just might be the ones that cause another student to come into that school and shoot up the place; or kill a car full of teens or another family for drunk driving. Teens will be teens, but I fault the parents. Their behavior shows lack of home training but hey....if the above happens then just then will Newsweek have the right to report adolescent behavior. These are young *** in the making and someone needs to address it.

If this is the biggest problem in their school district, I need to move there. The quote that these five girls were worse than gang members is absolutely priceless. When I was in high school I was happy when I didn't get robbed on the train. In a world filled with important stories, how did this story get printed?
