I just finished watching the movie, I am appalled at the lack of dicipline by the parents and the principal of the Fab 5, I was thoroughly disgusted and revolted at their disrespect! I cannot see those girls getting into a good college due to their immature behaviour, rudeness, and lack of self-control. As a business owner I would never higher any of these girls, they need to be shunned. They were and are not children, they were out of control teenagers and their parents should be ASHAMED as to what they have raised. The whole lot needs counselling. Hurrah for the coach who was honorable and had the courage to tell the truth. Those girls actually are criminals, they were bullies, they belong in jail and their parents should lose custody of any other children they have due to neglect. I hope all the parents of the Fab5 including the principal, Linda Theret, read this. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON ALL OF YOU who covered up the disrespect, the disobedience and enabled these girls to continue with their antics and criminal behavior.

Formal apology. My indignation was aimed at 'smartsoutherner' not 'smartgirl61'. I do apologise 'smartgirl61'.

Having just watched the movie, I also sat in horror but not in total disbelief. I've lived in TX for quite a few years and this is quite an accurate portrayal of an element (thankfully relatively small) of teenage kids there. Too much of Daddy's money to fret about spending and parents whose focus is on 'who can have the biggest house and fastest car'. A lot of them are the most hypocritical bunch of people that you could wish to meet. Absolutely they are friendly on the surface, but for many that is where it stays - nothing of real substance. Sorry y'all if you disagree! And as for the girl who claims to be 'smartgirl61' - you do realise that your grammar and spelling are appalling, don't you?! For goodness sake at least use spell-check if you have the audacity to put 'smart' in your screen-name....

Those of you who are talking about how christianity has something to do with this. It does and it doesn't. It has to do with a crappy school district not punishing girls who deserve it and crappy parenting where these parents don't punish their children either. One parent in this movie did the right thing...the others should take note. I am 20 and I was a cheerleader in highschool...my school would never have let us get away with ANYTHING like this! Parents and the school district are to blame for this. It has nothing to do with god....it would help if the "trashy sluts" would read a passage from the bible but it comes down to parents letting children do what they want and then the children thinking they should have it and expect it!

I am watching the movie right now and I have NEVER been so disgusted in my life. I cannot believe that 5 people, along with others in the school, were able to get away with such awful behavior. I really cannot blame the girls because the adults, including the Principal and parents were the real culprits. The HERO was the cheerleading coach who through all adversity, she stood up to the "powers that be". We definitely need more people like her in the world.

Why are people so surprised at the antics of these girls? They just represent the culture we live in. All the movies, television shows, music, videos, video games, Internet sites and anything else that could influence American youth send the message that disrespect is hilarious, go out and get money, do whatever feels good. We encourage our young girls to use their bodies to manipulate people. We encourage our young men to use as many girls as they like in order to be real men. We teach our children that material wealth is the goal of life. No wonder these girls are behaving the way they are. Our society has created them. American youth have become like Frankenstein's monster. Only a true revival can save our nation now.

I cannot believe that as a mother she aloud her daughter to manipulate her they way she did...along with the school. They were defiantly shown preferental treatment. As far as being from the south...I don't care where you are from...what they did was WRONG!!! And that doesn't mean all "southerns" are that way...just like if it happened any where else doens't make any place bad. SO they did what they did and look now they get...a movie made about them...so they did wrong...but now they are "stars".

All I have to say is that as a teacher, the behavior of that principal was absolutely disgusting. As educators, we have a standard to uphold. And those five little witches, should've gotten kicked out of school. They were nothing but little whores who thought that they ruled the school. Good luck to them and getting jobs when they are adults. I'm watching the movie as we speak and it's amazing how many parents just let their children do whatever they want.

There are to many generalizations being made about the south. Up north everyone gets mugged and everything is dirty does that sound right? No it doesn't. I by no means live in an impoverished town and anyone who can say that about an entire region is just about as ignorant as they think us southerners are. The facts are there are mean girls everywhere. Does it matter that they were cheerleaders or southern? Where was that mean girls movie set anyways, not in the SOUTH. And how did this whole message board become a finger pointing contest? Last I checked the war between north and south was over it should stay that way

By your hostility MPM, I take it that my comments struck a nerve. That is what God intended. There may be hope for you yet..You are in my prayers buddy...

If God intended anything, it was for me to prove your incorrect views wrong. Mission accomplished, God!

The problem with Texas is that it is a good ole' boy (or girl) state.

Also those girls are going to have to go to work one day and will have a really hard time of it when they learn the hard way they can't get away with the same things in the work place they got away with at that school. Waht goes arouncd comes around.

some body should have told these girls; "before you do anything to disgrace your uniform you should take it off" oh wait they proabably did

The issue is, we have to start early with our children. I have a 3 week old with me right now, and I cry to God that I train him in the way he SHOULD go, so that he would not depart from it. Seeing these teens in the movie on Lifetime last night is part of a lifelong process of being accomodating and making these girls think the wrong things in life are important.

Falcon24: I live in New Jerey and I am in love wih Jesus. I'm from South Carolina, and thought that the north was less moral than the Bible Belt region, but I was wrong, I live near urban areas and there are churches on every street corner and missionaries trying to help people. It was the Christians here that ministered to me and brought me back to the Lord, yes, there are many more religions and anti-faith movements in the North, but the Christians that live and fight the good fight against the principalities should be prayed for. Just please, don't generalize people for where they live

All, please don't judge all Texans by Falcon 24's comments! I am not an atheist (God forbid, I'm a Catholic in the Bible Belt!) This isn't about religion, it's about a few parents who had no control over their kids. This can happen in Texas, Pennsylvania, NY, NJ, or any one of the 50 states. It shows that as a nation, we have turned away from raising our children to become lawful, responsible adults. You don't need to be a Christian to be moral! And Falcon24, remember this "Judge not less ye be judged." I hope God doesn't read the comments you made about your fellow man!

Please don't think that all schools in the south, let alone in Texas, are the same as McKinney. I am from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and am a "northern" transplant. I can tell you from experience that the school district that my children now attend is of a much higher standard than the school district that they attended up north. I have no fear for my children in school now, compared to the fear of gang fights, metal detectors, etc. My children now attend a high school that has approximately 3000 students. Their teachers are caring individuals and are truly concerned with the welfare of their students. The adminstration has a much higher standard for behavior that the adminstration of the "northern" school. As far as your idea that all schools in the south are no more than christian schools in disguise, that is just not so. Texas is a state that celebrates all of the diversity that comes with having many cultures fused into one community. Tongans, Asians, Hispanics, Whites, Blacks, Christians, Jews, Buddahists and Muslim all are free to worship in school and outside of school with no criticism.. unlike some districts up north. Get your facts straight before you criticize. Try visiting a school down south ... you might be pleasantly suprised, just as I was!

  • Posted By: meylaran @ 08/03/2008 9:17:47 PM

Seriously...do you really believe that all schools in the south are focused on sports? I am from Louisiana and can tell you that this is the furthest from the truth. How about a little more education on your part? Educate yourself on the history and culture of the southern states, then you have a right to make these judgments. I went to a school that would not have tolerated this type of behavior from the kids representing the school. Sure, there were the kids who caused trouble and didn't care but those kids are everywhere...yes, even in the north! *gasp* Please, don't embarrass yourself by opening your mouth again before you know what you're talking about. It is discriminatory and hypicritical to lump everyone from the southern states together as one; but ignorance would be a better word.

    • Posted By: mpmumau @ 08/04/2008 9:36:59 AM

The word is spelled hypocritical. In any case, in my mind it's not about the kids. It's about the level. of competence of the administration. Kids will be kids anywhere, but what the people who run the schools in any area think and allow IS reflective of what the education system of an area as a whole is like.

mpm... If you actually read what you wrote about southerners you might realize that you come across as more intellectually challenged as those whom you are firing your salvos. I think "terribly ignorant" suffices as an apt description of you. And, in case you need a little learnin' I present to you this mission: Please name a public university or college in the north that ranks higher than the University of Virginia or the University of North Carolina. I pity people like you who waltz through life with a self-perception of superiority just because of where you live. Seems a little biased and prejudiced to me. Idiot. Oh, and this was written by a resident of Raleigh, NC, which is located well south of the Mason-Dixon line, in case you didn't know.

    • Posted By: mpmumau @ 08/04/2008 9:30:49 AM

Harvard University? Massachusetts Institute of Technology? LOL are you kidding me? Or are you specifically referring to sports, which would only prove my point? Plus, I've head that southern public schools have been known to give signing bonuses to teachers who graduated from northern universities, often because they are better regarded in general.

  • Posted By: westerner @ 08/04/2008 12:18:08 AM

I can't say that I have ever heard such a ridiculous defense of ones state as in Falcon24's comment. You enjoy your life in texas!
