Where was Lincolns Bible when you were sworn in? I beleive bad things will happen to African Americans and to White people . This is now not 100 years ago before any of us were born...we do not as a country owe an Apology to African Americans for things we had no part of. I beleive Obama has a hidden agenda . All thats left to do is wait and pray for this country as we already know and feel bad things are about to unfold.

I hope now this can end racism within our country. Two outcomes can come from this election. One, diminish racism within our country. Two, rally African Americans and start a civil war on racism. I hope it doesn't come to that, but I'm starting to see people with this chip on thier shoulder like they are better than other races. I hope this can cause us to come together and be the strongest nation in the world

I loved the gree-eyed person's perspective. She is right. i am a Canadian but we are very excited about Barack and feel the joy and the pain. We are neighbors and always should be. He is love - loves his family, his country, people, He is hope, a brighter future for everyone no matter color, religion or geography, he is peace, end to wars, people helping people is what he would like to see, all children seeing in themselves 'yes we can' 'that everything is possible' he is persistence, putting the right foot forward, walking in harmony for the better of all, instead of greed, he is the candle in t he wind that should never go out as long as we can breath. We should come together for him and for ourselves so all his hopes and dreams are not in vain but to see the sun rise everyday even if it is clouded becaue it is always there no matter how we perceive the day, as reality is life and how we should choose to make it, successful in love, hope, peace, persistence, the candle in the wind to keep our way lit so he can do good work for all. Pat/Canadian

All people of color werent slaves. I dont need to read no sentences from some article written by a person that I dont know. People are slaves and imprisoned right now. A lot of them are black and it was not justice in the application of the law and some have mental health problems. People came from different places with different expectations. Some people of color resided her and lived a lifestyle different or similar to there conquer so you dont get any information about em. All people are not stepping from being a slave, imprisoned, or defeated to have black representation at the white house. if such words has meaning and it does with broad base statements that are used to cripple a viewpoint of a person.

It is killing some of you that he is black! You want to keep the fact that his mom was white out there so he can't be claimed as being African American. You make me sick. He was to black for Virginia and Georgia, and now that the color of his skin didn't work in keeping him out, you want to ad nauseam remind what needs no remindin in the non white world,, and that indeed his beloved mother was white, and so he can't with validity "in your warped racist mind" call black America his heritage. Well guess what? He's African, and he's an American, and guess what else? not every black American had a relative as a slave thank God, but that does not mean we STIlLL aren't dealing with the bull that even your comments are evidence of.

And P.S. I voted for Barack Obama because, like many other people, I thought he was the best candidate for the job--not because I thought he was African American. I thought he was multiracial.

    • Posted By: seti2008 @ 01/21/2009 10:46:54 PM

I'm black. Learn your history. Interracial children and adults lobbied hard for an inclusion in the US census as multiracial. Kenyan Americans, Haitian Americans... are only racially African Americans--not culturally. They identify as Americans via their countries and cultures. What I'm disturbed by is that I do not believe that an African American with slave roots can be elected president, partly because the US as well as many other countries have engaged in wiping out histories. Obama has no ancestors that were slaves and,as a PhD educator, I can tell you that it does make a difference. The segment of the black population who does better than white Americans on standardize tests, for instance, are those who were raise by white parents. What does that say about blacks with two African American parents? (That's a stat that I preferred to keep secret.) Culture is the culprit and the culture of African Americans, who can claim no other country but the US, are the remnants of surviving 200 years of slavery and 100 years of Jim Crow. Immigrants, regardless of race, do not identify with the culture, nor claim that it is theirs.

LisaKock, own your racism. no one here knows you. You do not wish him well or you wouldn't have prefaced your lie with that falsety. Own that you're not happy that he is the sitting President of these united states. No one knows you from a pile of ashes so no need to lie. You're a hypocrite and a liar and there's no need for you to be. Have some integrity and some self respect because no one is here convinced that you in one moment wish him well, and in the next word cut him down. Own your true feelings about the man.

Obama's name was Barry until he wanted in to politics and he's half black, come on. We wish him well but put it in perspective, People are electing a president not a savior. I dare to see how many of them will be involved in "change" what ever that means in 90 days. Best Wishes.

Obama does not have any ancestors who were slaves. Slave owners perhaps, but not slaves.

  • Posted By: Rigorous_storm @ 01/21/2009 5:39:37 PM

yeah sapphire72 don't forget that most of these corrupt politicians as well as the majority of slave owners were christians and that history has shown that religion and government mixing have led to the most tragic and evil times we have seen. I don't understand how much more religion you could get into our government all the elected officials are christians, would you like to just have only preachers able to be president. It seems to me that anyone taht values their religion would want it kept out of government. History shows that the most likely thing is taht the government powers corrupts the religion more than the religion straightens out the government.

Sapphire72, if you're talking about the Biblical god (and I can't be sure when there are almost 3000 gods to choose from) then I don't think introducing the idea of a god who condones slavery would be a good thing straight after electing an African-American man as President. No one is forcing you to live under the influence of Islam or Hinduism, so in a nation which is supposed to have freedom of religion it would be hypocritical of you to expect non-Christians to live under the influence of Christianity - that is, once you've decided which of the many Christian religions is best.

The Douglass/Washington video was inspirational. I can relate to what she was saying because I thought about my ancestors while I stood in line on Election day. My family had celebrated 130 years of seperation in September 2008. It's a beautiful thing to witness a black man being president. I live in South Carolina and I'm in my late 30s. We were taught in school that a black man never was president and they stressed that white men were presidents and the only one to be president of the US. Teachers were setting us up then to discourage us. My best friend, who is white, and have been my friend since kindergarten, experienced racism. People looked at us stangely when we were hanging out in stores. I had to experience racism within my own race among my peers because I am fair skinned and I preferred to hang around a white person. My hope is that there will be no division of minority and majority, but we will be ONE to lift this nation back to prosperity. WE need to bring GOD back into everything that has to do with this nation. Who cares about the atheist out there or those who don't like religion in school. I work in the school system and we need to bring God back into the schools, into this nation, and into everything we do to bring this nation back to where it needs to be. When you take God out of it....it's not going to work. With that said, I hope that my children and others will achieve their dreams and may God bless Barack Obama!

whats with all this black presidency. the youth of america has always been united. we never had a problem with one another unless weve been put against each other in a bad situation. but once again our parents problems and their racism is the main factor of the world and not the problems of the youth. we dont care who is presideny or what his color he or she is and im talkin for all my brothers whether white or black or mexican or any color. we care about fixing this problems with thiese rich people being selfish and not rejuvenating the world just taking and keeping everything for themselves. we dont care if obama is black if he doesnt do a better job than bush we will run him out the white house even quicker. your no great mesiha and this is no unity parade for us. for once would you all look past our parents and to us. we need better schools, access to more money as the youth. did you know i cant claim myself for financial aid until i believe im 24. im 22 and haven't resided with my parents in 5 years. i live on my own. but because of my mothers wagews and insurance changing im paying for it and now i have no financial aid. but my status with my parents haven't changed on my hand. it's the same, so now i take a hit because of my parent. this is what im talkin about, the system punishes our parents by giving and taking from us the youth. because they say where irresponsible. well i wasnt alive in the 70 like most of todays parents were. you all had your oppurtunity now give it over to us the youth because wheter you recognize this or not mom and dads out there your responsible for the actions that your child has taken in lfe. it was you that screwed their heads off, that made them athletes and uneducated.
